Skip & Jan's Billiards is getting all the 9ft's rebuilt.

Update Nov 11

Three of the 9ft tables at Skip N Jans are complete and they play great. The consistency in the rails, the cloth speed, and the pockets is identical.

When all of the tables are complete this may be one of the few establishments in Arizona to have consitency throughout the room.

It's something you have to play on for yourself to really appreciate.

HEADS! Lets play some Hercules. You got me for some even one pocket tonight for $20 a game on one of these perfect tables, no adjustments, just play pool. Let me know what time you will be there.

I am slowly chipping away at them. With the league schedule in there I am limited with my work week, so I am getting 1 done a week for now. 4 more Diamonds then those old tired GC3's! Before long though, there will be 12 identical playing 9' tables in there no matter what make they are. I will be picking up the next table today.

Look forward to meeting you sometime and shooting the shizzle. I will be stopping in there soon enough to hit some.

Here are a couple pics of the latest table. See for yourself how much "love" these tables need.

The oak on the of the rails has all been stapled out and is all broken up. The person to work on these rails last tried to repair the poplar on the front edge of the rail with some wood putty in an effort for the staples to have something to grab onto. Let me tell you, that did nothing.

This is how poorly the cushions were held on. I have heard some stories that the last person to work on these rails used 3M 77 spray glue to attach the rubber. I am not pulling on the cushion to remove it in this pic, that is just how loose they are.

Here a large piece of the subrail is missing.

One of many broken off bolts. This also shows a good example of the wood putty used on all the rails.

Well buddy...what are you going to do...perform an exorcism on that table...."reverend".. I trust that table will turn out just like all the others you've rebuilt, lets see what it looks like once you're done:grin:

Looks like its coming along well, great work. I will be making it in there to play in the next couple days for some practice. :)

Hey Lenny,

You should talk to Jimmy when you finish and let him know how good they play.

His Diamond as well as the GC's and bar tables could use some help.

I have been talking to him about it and certainly think it would be a good idea, I would say out of the 11 9 footers, I would gamble on 4 or 5 of them, the drop pocket tables are the worse. 6-8 and 13-15 play acceptable to me.

The bar tables I do not get on much but the league players seem to enjoy them, they roll straight but are buckets like most bar tables.

I am interested in seeing what the last top AZ table mechanic did to the Diamond, I heard it involved a drill.

Its good to have someone finally who knows how to work on a Diamond in AZ.

Like I said before, Zach is the best there is in Arizona when it comes to being a real certified table mechanic. His work says it all and sets the bar high as hell for all others to try and climb up to get to his level of expertise;)

I told Zach the first thing he had to do, was to create a show room to showcase his new skills, thus Skip & Jan's. As far as working in other pool rooms in the area, that remains to see who calls him to hire his skills. As I've told him over and over again, what he's learned from the time spent with me...is worth more than what other table mechanic's charge, and therefore...when he gives a quote to work on a pool table for someone, stick to his pricing...period! If his prices for his skills are a little high compared to what people are use to paying, it's only because they haven't been getting what they paid for, and therefore...OVER paid for the work done. Zach KNOWS how to work on pool tables....not just install cloth, which is what MOST table mechanics do....install cloth! Zach FIXES pool tables correctly, and therefore WILL be charging accordingly. Believe me when I say...he's NOT going to be selling his skills...at the same price as a hack!

Well I can think of a few rooms that would definitely benefit from getting Baptized by the Reverend.

Having a great room on each side of the Valley would be a win for everyone.

-Skip & Jans (already being done)
-Kolby's (Already talked about)
-Bullshooters (Tables are in good shape)
-Metro Sportz bar (Desperately need tons of work, worst 9 footers in town)
-River City (Maybe)
-Click's (Maybe)
-Main St. (No idea of the conditions any more)
-Lizard Acres (Sun City)

Thanks for the kind words Donny. Hows California been lately? I do still need a 1pc slate, do you have an extra laying around?

I'm converting a single slate 9-foot smarttable to a 3 pc slate. Diamond dosen't want the used 1pc slate. You can have half of it if you want? I'll be sending you some money by mail so be looking for it, probalby will go on monday.

Well hang on to if for sure, I have one in the works, but its got a cracked corner, and I am not sure how bad it is yet. But I would be interested in the other half of yours anyway.

I would say every room on that list needs help, besides Lizard Acres because I have not been there but Main St. is terrible and they really need to atleast upgrade the Gandys to Gold Crowns. Bullshooters tables do not play great at all even the house pro tables that are setup for Tres and Terry, they might have good cloth and some might even roll true but they do not play correctly. The problem is that most of the tables have been worked on by the same person known (formerly) as the top dog.

I have played in all the rooms on the list besides LA and will say Kolby's even though they are not great play better then majority of the rooms on the list and that is why players travel from the West Side to play there. The rails are not like pinball machines and the pockets are not 5 inches wide, so you need to pocket balls well and have a stroke to get around. I still think the tables in every room in the valley are in need of help, but this is probably like most places in the country.
