Special Helmstetter cue made for Willie Mosconi

Looks very recent with the Adams logo on the butt, sent ? about what year it was made to seller, wonder what the answer will be.

The cue looks great, but for me to part with that kind of money it would need to be a cue Mosconi played with. A photo of him with the cue or at least a LOA would be required.

My guess is that Adam cues has made a deal with the Mosconi estate.

Thanks

Kevin

I would like to see the originals and a brief description, if these are in fact copies of cues he used.

Helmstetter, like a lot of cue makers, made and gave cues to Mosconi. Geat deal for Mosconi, he always had a lot of new cues to sell. Adam does have a deal with the Mosconi estate, much like they have a deal with the Balabushka estate, to make and market cues now. Most of the Helmstetters in this series, are new replicas of the cues Hemstetter made and gave to Willie in the 80s and 90s. Maybe the eBay auction was for one of these modern replicas, maybe that cue was actually one of the cues Helmstetter got into Mosconi's hands, but in any case, none of them were much ever "used" by Willie. I understand Mosconi would take a cue a maker had made and gifted to him and play with it at an exhibition and then, without actually making any claims about his "use" of the cue, outside of what the crowd just saw, offer to sell it. Nice work if you can get it, especially considering Willie paid nothing for the sticks. Just one of the perks for being zillion time over world champion.

PS Or something like that.

Kevin, some of the cues pictured in that set look more like Paradise, Palmer, and Balabushka replicas. Those are the cues I would like to see, if Mosconi ever used them. The Helmstetters, not so much.

My local dealer has the whole collection in his shop. There nice looking cues and go for around 500-1000, but I have never seen one that said specially made for Willie Masconi on the forearm like that. I like his description, 1 line. $4800. For $4800 you need atleast a paragraph, I mean come on.

They are replicas of palmers paradise bushkas Ect

I think dick Abbott has/had a paradise that mosconi's name was in the window.

Real or replica Willie can pick a color right now if he wants to. :-) Jk

This cue and all the others are replicas of cues made by other cuemakers, such as Balabushka and Rambo. Helmstetter/Adams NEVER made a cue specifically for Willie! With that said, it is probably a fine production cue with a value around $600.

Ok, this needs some clearing up.....

Before I try to clear this up, let me tell you my credentials regarding this specific post. I am a researcher for the well known billiard historian Charles J. Ursitti. See CharlesUrsitti.com if that doesn't ring a bell. He was Mosconi's manager and close friend of Willie and his family. The cue this reproduction was made to duplicate WAS made for Willie Mosconi as a gift for his HOF induction, and I have seen the original in person. There is more relevant information about this cue specifically that only Charlie or Bill Mosconi should tell you. Now this ebay cue, if rolled over 180 degrees should reveal the main difference.... an image of Mosconi on the butt sleeve, and that is probably why the ebay page had only the one butt photo. Charlie also owns Mosconi's 3-cushion cue, and I saw that at Charlie's home as well. Now for the good part. Because of my friendship with Charlie, Bill Mosconi met with me in person less than two months ago in Allentown PA. I saw Mosconi's other cues in person. Mosconi kept many cues and did play with most of them; you can ask Charlie about that, too.
Mosconi kept his tips and ferrules perfectly groomed and cleaned. The bumpers were not even worn. He was obsessive. If you want to own a cue ACTUALLY USED ON A REGULAR BASIS BY MOSCONI then ask Charlie and you can buy it WITH PROVENANCE from Willie's son Bill, probably in person. Or you can buy the HOF cue from Charlie. Everything has a price~you might find it. Mosconi even put 3x5" notecards in his cases describing some of the cues but not all. Charlie knows the whole history of the cues. There are even a few missing cues. These are FACTS NOT OPINIONS. I am no bigshot in the billiard world, but I am in a position to have the facts here and so is Charlie Ursitti. PM me for his contact info but only if you have serious need or interest.

I'll bet you could have one made especially for Micky Mouse.

You know there is no reason to be rude, Hunger Strike added some very good information to this that can be verified by anyone interested. Have a great new year and treat others how you want them to treat you, you will have a much better coming year that way!!!!!!

Peace Out

When I was working the State Fair of Texas in 81, there was a show, (Hall and Christ Shows) beside us. It was a Harley Davidson panhead with a side car, very fancy that was billed out as a motor cycle made for Elvis Presley.

I asked about it and the owner told me that it was just a motorcycle that was made for Elvis. Elvis never owned it, saw it or rode it but it was custom made for him. They made an absolute killing on it.

Someone could make a cue for Elvis and bill it out on EBay as a custom cue made for Elvis. Same thing yes?

No...the cue mentioned here was NOT made specifically for Willie. It is a reproduction of a cue that was made specifically for Willie by another cuemaker.

So your question is say tomorrow I make a cue for Elvis and post it on eBay. Do I think I would kill it. No. But say the Mickey mantle paradise cue would. Bc a HOF cuemaker and a HOF player but among the elite in the area.

Something that can't be made today.

That's why this cue will (and should) never fetch even close to it's asking price.
