Nice adverstisement, but you may have wanted to start your own thread on it!
OK, Point taken! Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread!
comparing TAR to Accu-stats, is like comparing Raymond Cuelemans to Shane Van Boening. That is, they both excel at 2 entirely different things.
That's obvious to me , but a lot of people really don't understand the difference in the production costs, the quality of the commentators, cameras, lighting etc..
As far as your comment of "other players are trying to muscle in and take their spot", who would that be? I see no one that does what they do. Can you name one other business that films a TV table thruout a entire tournament, then turns around and sells each match on DVD?
I'm not mentioning any names, but there are other players with much lower overhead who are trying to move in. I know this for a fact!
Making that comment, which is entirely false, leads the casual reader the impression that there is this big streamer war threatening to put Accu-stats out of business, and since this thread is about TAR, including them as someone trying to "Muscle in" on Accu-stats.
There was nothing false in what I stated. I'm not accusing TAR of anything, but there are definitely streamers who want to move up in the game and replace Accu-Stats! They aren't capable of putting on the quality that Accu-Stats does, but they have a very small overhead which makes them look good to the promoters who have to pay Accu-Stats to haul all of their professional quality equipment and bring in professional commentators, camera men and tech staff.
I like TAR and Accu-stats, and since I realize their business models are different from each other, I fully support both of them and wish them both success.
I think we're in complete agreement on that point!
Besides..... if Accu-stats did have a competitor, doesn't that always benefit the consumer? Competition raises the bar for all involved, because there is more than one place to choose from.
That I can't agree with. Competition will usually lower the cost to the consumer, but it often dilutes the quality. Think Walmart! Sure someone can come in and offer something similar at a cheaper cost, but if the competition causes the parties to cut corners in order to be competitive, the cost may get lower, but so does the quality! Pat Fleming does Accu-Stats as a "labor of love". I probably should not be saying this publicly, but I know for a fact that he's struggling to keep Accu-Stats afloat. For what he's doing for the pool community, he should be making a good living, but if his wife didn't have a good job, he'd not be able to provide the quality, professional production that he does. He's certainly not getting rich off of Accu-Stats!
Unfortunately, it is a tough business to make money at right now, and we should all get down on our knees and thank all these people, like TAR, that provide us this entertainment, much of it free, all the while taking a bloody financial bath in the process. It is his love and passion for the game and the action aspect, that has given us all the hundreds of hours of free streaming and the many 3 day long Action matches for $25.
If it was Joe Blow doing it, he would have folded a long time ago. We all were lucky enough to have someone like Justin do what he did. I for one, will never ever forget that and wish there were many others like him, to have the nads to do that.
Long live TAR and Accu-stats and the Derby!!!!
Long live Justin Collett, Pat Fleming and Greg Sullivan!!!
