Shy but wants to play

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It really helps. You guys are the bomb.

I went, and shot like crap; there was too much garbage sifting through my head. But I think it was the right thing to do. There's no point in sitting home alone staring at the wall.

Tonight's games:
Game 1: 5 balls
Game 2: 4 balls
Game 3: 6 balls
Game 4: 2 balls

My whole family is in Iowa, and this is the first death in over 20 years. She is one of 6 kids and the first one to die. She had 3 kids and both my brothers are there.....I'm the only one in Washington. I'll get a plane ticket tomorrow when I know when the funeral is.

It's like a weight came off my shoulders. Funny how life is.

So you played like crap tonight, shake it off. Your head was elsewhere and rightfully so. It's times like these when you realize pool is just a game and is really way down the list of what's truly important in most people's lives, even pool players.

My best wishes and thoughts are with you and your family. Have a safe trip.

It is just a game. I find it interesting that it's the one thing I wanted to do above all else.

I'm glad I have it.

Hi Bonni

Sorry to hear about your Mother. My Mother is in Kansas City so we do not see her often. She is 93. We are never ready for such a loss.
I look forward to playing pool with you and the gang again. I have had a few health problems the last couple months but that will not keep us from the tables. Hi to Mike from me. Saw him at the VA recently. Going again today. Bob

I most certainly will say hi to Mike for you, Bob. I hope that you get your health issues taken care of and have many more years of Good Health.

I'll be waiting to play when you're ready. This time.......you'll hit me on a good day. tee hee

Back from Iowa and the funeral.

I am donating my body to science so that student doctors can practice putting in stents, cataract surgery, heart surgery, replacing hips and knees, or whatever they wish to do to me. I want my body used for something good, something educational. Cremate the remains and toss them out when they're done with me. I'm not there anymore.

Spending $10,500 to have a 2 hour funeral and planting me in the ground in a steel and concrete vault is neither good for the environment or mankind. What a colossal waste of resources and money.

The sad part is that she told me she wanted cremation, but no one else. I only assumed everyone knew. I flew in Thursday night for a 10 am funeral on Friday. I was horrified to see her in an open casket! They did not read the will until after the funeral, so even if it had been in there, they would not have cremated.:(

Please......if you haven't done so already.....make your wishes known to as many people as possible. I certainly want things to be easy for my family when I leave the planet.

I'm back to pool tomorrow. I didn't have time to play except for the night before I came home. I kicked my friend Jake's butt, and he has a table at home. I think he just let me win.

you can offset your Mom's funeral costs , and still be a benefit to science . Many institutions , such as Johns Hopkins, will 'pre-purchase' your remains for quite a sizable fee .
(not as much as your Mom's funeral , but PLENTY )
You will then carry a card very similar to an organ donor card .

Good luck at Pool this week !

God bless you in this trying time. I lost my mother to breast cancer. It was not clean like you're mother. It is an insidious disease. I'm glad you are in a great state of mind and I for one am happy for it. I still miss Mom terribly. I hope you get the 8 on the snap tonight. You go girl, have at 'em.

Hi, my name is Bonni and I'm an addict.

I've been playing since November and I've got a problem. Aside from the fact that I don't get enough practice, I've moved to a new town and I don't feel comfortable walking into a bar alone and challenging a table yet. I'm just not a seasoned player and I'm still learning the fundamentals.

I've read books, watched videos, and I am keenly interested in playing in a tournament someday. I try to play at least 10 hours a week.

I spent 10 1/2 hours solid playing Thursday when I met a nice guy who just wanted to shoot pool, too. The bar closed or I would have still been there. I'm self conscious as an older woman (50's) and one who isn't all that good at the sport yet.

How do I get over the fear of playing in a strange place alone? It may seem stupid, but it stops me from going out to practice quite a bit.

I live in Redmond WA and I find that the local Eagles club is a great place to shoot. If you are looking for competition it might not be the best but if you want to practice and feel comfortable I would check it out. Most Eagles have pool tables. Not sure about Spokane

Thanks, Sharkster. Understanding and vibes going out for you. +++++++

As for pool, well, let's just say that after 6 days away from the table, the damage was done. I can't shoot for poop. Back to practice soon.:embarrassed2:

I'm on the opposite coast, in Maine, but I play out of my local Eagles club. Very comfortable, and you can't beat .25 a game... We have 5 tables, in reasonable shape. Very seldon do I have to wait for a table, save for maybe Friday or Saturday nights, but then we all just take turns, or play a ring game.

Another Eagles club here in our state doesn't charge for pool at all. Fewer tables, but still, you get the idea.

Worth checking out, as an option for you. Of course if you're happy where you're playing and it's cheap enough, what the heck. :p

Eagles in the Sunshine State

Don't know about Washington , but in Florida there's an Eagle's yearly state championship tourney open only to members (must have belonged 5 months or more , so you can't join just for the tourney unless you plan WELL in advance) , with quite a bit of coin on the line . . . .

I know they have state-wide tourneys here in Maine, too. If I remember correctly it is a team format, but they might also have a singles tourney as well. Not sure. I know we sent 3 5-person teams last year, and it was a local tournament to even get on one of those teams.

They're always held on Saturdays so I can't participate (damned work inconvenience) or I would know more. All in all, a nice environment to play pool in.

I'll check out the Eagles here and see what shakes out.

Monday's games (delayed reporting, too much going on!):

Game 1: 4 balls
Game 2: 6 balls
Game 3: Won
Game 4: 5 balls

I'm back on pool schedule again after all the craziness. Tomorrow is Thursday and it's an all day/nighter. It will feel GOOD to be shooting again.

There was no pool last night. The schedule said we played the second place team, so my team showed up.

It seems that we are off this week and next, but the schedule had us off next week and the week after. 4 teams showed up. Some teams were notified that the schedule was wrong on Sunday while they were shooting on league, but the league operator did not make the call to the rest of the team captains. Now, why would you have league play on Sunday, but not on Monday, the next day?:angry:

I found out that they knew about the problem weeks ago, and 'forgot' to print out the right schedule. Even so, how hard is it to make a few phone calls to let everyone know? Some people drove for an hour to come into town to shoot, and the weather was cruddy.

Grrrrrrr. I'm really disappointed with the league operator's inability to do the simple things.

Especially today , when you can send 1 email to all the captains simultaneously . . . as soon as you've identified the problem !
Have a Merry Xmas , & I hope that 'cruddy weather' meant lots of fresh powder !!

I hear ya! She has the list of team captains and all their information. Why not do it in October when you first found the problem? Information age, my ass.

How do I get over the fear of playing in a strange place alone? It may seem stupid, but it stops me from going out to practice quite a bit.

You get over it by doing it, be friendly with the other players and you will be welcomed quicker then you realize. Have fun, it's a game. It took me a few months to get beyond the Newbie feeling but it will happen.

Back to league after 2 weeks off, and one nastyass sinus infection.

Last night's games:

Game 1: 7 balls (opponent and I chased the 8)
Game 2: 7 balls (grrr....missed the 8, long green cut shot)
Game 3: 4 balls (snookered at every turn)
Game 4: 6 balls (no excuse, just plain tired)

Being ill really throws you off your game. I spent time in the ER and got a Z Pack.....anti-biotics.....because it was just ridiculously invasive. I blew out my ear drum 2 days ago and it's full of infection now, too. Doc sez: let it ride a couple weeks, see if the Azithromycin kicks in.

Meanwhile, an ice pick is stabbing my ear and I can't hear out of it. Joy.

Old age ain't for sissies.:thud:
