What Would You Damn Do Here?

Mosconiac has the closest to my determination!

Thanks for the thought, folks!

I really should have cut the 1 in, but I just wasn't feeling it.

As the worse player in the match-up (which was irrelevant, as it is hill-hiil:angry:), there was no way I wanted him back at the table.

What was looking good to me was the 9 in the side pocket via kicking the 2 into it, then letting it carom off the 6. I liked that coz I could hit is relatively firmly and was 95% sure I could stick CB on end rail.

What I failed to factor was*: .95 x .6 x .4 x .7 = .1596% success rate!!duh

I left the following and he made a good out to win and I felt like a dumbass.

CueTable Help

*IMO:
.95 = chance of leaving cb on end rail
.6 = chance of hitting 9 in proper direction
.4= chance of 9 hitting proper side of 6
.7= chance of 9 dropping

Yeah, but think about how much worse you would feel had you tried to duck and left him straight in. ;)

Right...I was gonna ask if your suggestion was based on my failure to specify what game I was playing!

I do not understand what benefit it could possibly provide, missing the whole ball?

What I'm saying is if you happen to miss the edge of the 2 trying to play the safe, you'll most likely come into it from behind, and good things can happen.

The speed for a thin safety would be quite different from the speed for a kick. Something good could happen, but there's also a good chance that you wouldn't get a rail.

Most good players would hit the right side of the two ball and bring the cue ball two rails up table and use the five and six for blockers. Kickin Chicken has the right idea. Leave distance! The closer to the other end rail you can leave the cue ball the better. The five and six block a large part of the table. If he's hooked on the two, he has to kick at it from distance. If he can see it, it's still no bargain. Maybe someone else can illustrate this shot.

Yeah, you'd have to really butcher the speed on the safety attempt.

I might have been getting a little too creative.

But would you want to bet your entire match on a rail ball rail hit that your unable to control and were not planning on unlessed you missed the ball going in. There is allot of good that can come from that, but the two ball is to far off rail to easily do this type of shot. I've also seen players cut the two fat with inside english to the pocket, have it two rail back towards the foot spot and leave whitey 8 feet away on the other end rail. This is a high percentage deliberate miss shot.

I agree with the aggressive "gophers" who advocated cutting the 2 in and running out. If you miss, you don't necessarily have to leave an easy shot....And if you're playing a better player, I like to keep them in the chair as much as possible. I've played too many great safes in spots like this only to have the opponent kick it safe or kick it in...

The opportunity for a lock-up safe isn't there, and I'm not gonna go down bunting at a weak safety.

I'd rather bank the 2 underneath me than try some sort of safe where I leave an easy kick in the best case scenario.

I kind of like BB's shot, he gave himself a chance to win, at least.

I am tellin ya! I was breaking the balls good, when I popped those cursed spheres the last time, I looked at the result and knew the 9 was on. I knew it!

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy??!!

You might come up with 2 different "correct shots" if this is a super tight 9'er vs a Valley Bar Box.

What were you on?

KK9 <-- would pass BB the Kleenex, but used his inventory last night while scratching at hill hill

It was on a 4.5-4.75" corner pocket, 9' GC 3 in the back corner on the 2nd floor in MD with the candlestick in the men's room.

Sounds like standard GC III buckets. I think in retrospect, most decent players should try and cut it, knowing a miss is not necessarily a death sentence. But a make may well be the end for your opponent.

The cut is "2 way-ish" at proper speed.

Sorry for your loss hoss. :p:eek::grin-square:

thin the 2 and you have the 7,9,5,3 as blockers if you can get the rock back to the head rail and the 2 only rolls 3 or 3 inches. its a very very hard shot. And even then he can kick safe you afterwards pretty easy. But he is Irish so dont worry about him.:p:p:wink:, I like Mcreesh-he puts me in a goodmood. I couldnt play him, i couldnt bear down he it too funny
