Video of Mike Surber's suspected killer!

Doc:
I'm glad to help. If we can get enough exposure out there with these pictures I think we can get a name to go with this guys face.

I know many of the members here on az are also members on other forums. If any of you could please post pictures on other forums that would blanket huge areas at a time and maybe we can get lucky and someone will recognize him.

Thanks to everyone for their help!
I'd like to publicly than Eezbank for putting a lot of his own time in helping here. He's sent me many photos that he's gleaned from various state's DOC sites. I really appreciate your help, Eezbank!

We're probably going to be asking for volunteers to look at certain pertinent websites to help identify this suspect by matching his general desription, then notifying we who have seen the guy. There will probably be other ways y'all can help too.

We will be making up an downloadable poster for anyone's use. From that we'll make paper posters to send to many applicable people in corrections, or law enforcement.

If you like, you can Email me at gulfportdoc@yahoo.com

Thanks, folks! ~Doc

This individual is MOST-LIKELY THE KILLER of Mike Surber, one of the pool world's very nice guys. This suspect has been known to visit bars and pool rooms. I think that we may all view this video and see different things that might help someone to identify this person and would like to ask all of you to add to my notes about what I saw. Please copy and paste as necessary. ALSO, PLEASE CORRECT ANYTHING THAT I MAY LIST IF I MADE A MISTAKE. Thanks!

• RIGHT-HANDED.
• DRINKS BEER.
• WHEN HE DRINKS BEER, HE LIKES TO PUT HIS LEFT HAND IN HIS POCKET LIKE A BIG SHOT.
• SMOKES CIGARETTES, holds the cigarette in left hand.
• VERY-HIGH RECEDING HAIRLINE/FOREHEAD. Forehead may have a slight slope to it (rather than round or square shape)
• MEDIUM DARK HAIR.
• KNOWN TO WEAR SUNGLASSES, sometimes dangling from his shirt.
• RELATIVELY SHORT IN HEIGHT.
• SLIGHT POT-BELLY.
• PLAYS POOL, BUT NOT VERY WELL.
• WHEN PLAYING A GAME OF POOL AND WHEN HE IS WATCHING THE OTHER PLAYER HE HAS A HABIT OF HOLDING THE CUE IN FRONT OF HIS BODY WITH BOTH HANDS, RIGHT HAND OVER THE LEFT HAND.
• Chalks with his left hand, holding cue in his right hand.
• ALSO, WHEN HE SHOOTS UNENCUMBERED, BOTH LEGS APPEAR TO BE LOCKED.
• AT THE TIME OF THE MURDER, SUSPECT HAD LONG HAIR, PULLED BACK INTO A PONY-TAIL.
• ALSO, WHEN HE SHOOTS HE KEEPS BOTH FEET CLOSE TOGETHER RATHER THAN A WIDE STANCE.
• LIKES TO RUN A TAB AT THE BAR, then attempts to pay with a stolen credit card.
• SMOOTH TALKER
• sHARP NOSE

• please add to this list.

If you may know who this guy is, please contact Lt. John Flowers at the Ocean Springs, Miss. police department at (228) 875-2211. If for some reason you can't get in touch with Lt. Flowers, you can contact me at (228) 896-6616, or gulfportdoc@yahoo.com

ALSO, IF YOU SEE SOMEONE WHO LOOKS SIMILAR TO THIS MAN, YOU MIGHT CALL YOUR LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT.
ALSO, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER RECORDING THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBER FROM THE VEHICLE HE IS DRIVING AS WELL AS THE COLOR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE.
Thanks,
JoeyA

On the Mikesurber.com website it mentions that the suspect may have a very simple tattoo below his right eye.

If he has an idea that the law is on his trail, do you think he might slip over the border either south or north. I have no idea that he would want to come to Canada in the winter but Canada is a vast country with many small places to hide and blend in. Desperate men take desperate measures.

Maybe a possibility that the Canadian RCMP should be notified as well.

Not long ago, there was a serial rapist that escaped over the border and was living quite a comfortable life in my small city until Americas Most Wanted aired a segment about him. He was caught and brought in within an hour.

I live in Regina which has the training academy for the RCMP. I don't know what kind of hoops I might have to jump thru to get their official attention but I am 10 mins away from F Division. If you think it might help, let me know and I'll do my part.

Doc,
Do you remember this guy with a very simple tattoo below his right eye?

JoeyA

First I heard of a tattoo under his eye. If true it might be a tear drop and most guys that have them have been in prison or at least have been arested. Police somewhere should have taken a mug shot of him and it should be on file. Johnnyt

Good point.

It would be nice to search a database based upon a tear drop tattoo under the right eye. That would remove a lot of photos and might zero in on the guy quickly.

My cousin used to work for the FBI.

If you find someone to do it use Drop and drops. Johnnyt
PS: If the local police that are in charge of the case have the info that he had a tattoo under his eye they should have already run this.

With the new year almost here and still no name for this guy I have been trying a different approach. I found a 3D modeller called Facegen. Here is a link of a video of how to use it.

I'm trying to use the video stills as a baseline for what the guy looks like. If some of the people that have had contact with the suspect could download and create this mans face it may make it easier for someone to identify him. The program allows you to make a 3D model and rotate it so you can see what the person would look like from different views. Unfortunately I don't think the free version will allow me to put hair on the model.

There is a free download for the program and it's pretty simple to use. I spent a couple hours working on one today and I will attach photos.

Here is the link to the software download.

Hopefully trying some new things in the new year will produce positive results.

Thanks,
Eric

Does anyone know who the women were that are watching.
Maybe they can identify the person he is playing with or better
yet help with a sketch or facial details

Bump

Bump back up someone is bound to see this guy somewhere and I hope it is sooner than later. His next victim could be someone you know.

The video shows how facegen works and it seems pretty simple but I think the ones who could maximize the use of it the most, are the ones who saw Mike Surber's killer up close as they could tweak the features as they remember seeing them; you know, widening the eyes, sharpening the nose etc.

Good find, Eric.
Thanks,
JoeyA

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. -- It's been more than a year since Michael Surber was found stabbed to dead in his Linda Circle home, something that does not still well with officers of the Ocean Springs Police Department.

"We're not going to stop until this is solved," Lt. John Flowers, the lead investigator on the case said Wednesday.

Flowers released new information on Wednesday in Surber's death, saying the 54-year-old was stabbed to death, but declined to elaborate further. More new information released Wednesday in the case was the motive.

"There was an undisclosed amount of cash missing," Flowers said. "The whole department is dedicated to solving this case. We've had some tips recently that are taking us across many states and we have the FBI involved."

The case has been featured on America's Most Wanted's Web site, hoping to yield a break to investigators, but so far none have panned out.

Flowers pleaded with the public nationwide on Wednesday to help identify and, if possible, locate the suspect.

"I'm hoping someone, somewhere will see his picture and know who he is," Flowers said. "At this point, we really need the public's help identifying him."

Surber was found stabbed to death Nov. 12, 2009 and his slaying was classified a homicide two days later, following an autopsy.

In January 2010, detectives said they believed a transient man could be responsible for Surber's death and a man captured on surveillance video was named as the primary suspect.

The primary suspect was last seen wearing a blue dress shirt and dark slacks while leaving Skeeter's Billiards in Gulfport with Surber just two days before he died.

The man is believed to be his late 40s to mid-50s, standing from 5 feet 8 to 6 feet tall and weighing 175 to 185 pounds, Flowers said.

In surveillance video, the man has dirty blond hair pulled back into a ponytail just below the collar and a receding hairline.

The man told Surber, an avid pool player, and bar patrons that his name was Jericho Cooper, but that name has been proven by detectives to be an alias, authorities said.

Flowers said there have been only four other Ocean Springs homicides in the last 10 years.

"We solved those and we'll solve this one," he said. "We just need the public to get involved."

Anyone with information about the suspect or the stabbing death of Michael Surber should call the Ocean Springs Police Department at 228-875-2211 or their local law enforcement agency.

There is more info at the above address, it's a great article.

I hope this guy gets caught, by the right people. Meaning, I hope he spends at least a week in the hospital under intensive care before they haul his ass off to jail.

Being stabbed to death is a horrific way to die. I'm so sorry for his poor friends and family who have to visualize that. If you think you see the perp in your pool hall do not hesitate to call 911.

Just put it on my Facebook page as well. Can someone get this on Youtube?

I guess you have been MIA on the forum with all your pool happenings around the world, Jay.

It was put on YouTube about a month or two ago, thanks to the efforts of Gulfport Doc and a videographer who had to convert the video footage from its original format.

Here are the YouTube links: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Mike+surber&aq=f

It has also been on the website seeking justice for Mike Surber immediately after it became available by the above-referenced parties: http://www.MikeSurber.com
