Ok, It's January and I am ready for the greatest pool event in the world.
For all of you who are going to play, I wish you great success.
For the people who will be watching , don't be afraid to tell your favorites good luck and get pictures and autographs with them. {Just be courteous}
This is one of the places other than bar tables that is continuously growing and improving each year.
If you can , go and spend some time and help support this tournament and the players.
Have a great time everyone.

Derby City has become the biggest annual reunion in the pool world. It is much more than just a tournament. It's a gathering of pool aficionados from all over, so they can visit with each other, watch some great pool, and maybe even hit a ball or two. They also can rub shoulders with many of the current greats of the game.

DCC has evolved into one of the few "can't miss" events of the year in the pool world. Thanks to the vision of Greg Sullivan, the owner of Diamond Billiards, it has managed to endure and thrive even in the poor economy. There is almost to much to do and see at Derby City. It's like a Disneyland for pool fans. So many good matches going on at the same time, and overlapping events in several disciplines, it can be hard to decide what to watch or where to go next.

Yes, the Horseshoe is not as convenient to the airport as the old location, and the rooms aren't so cheap, but it is a newer establishment with far better choices for dining, with a much safer and more secure feeling being there. My recommendation is to use the shuttle service provided by Diamond and book online for the best deals. It's a long show, stretching over nine days, and even a small dose like three or four days is well worth the trip.

I look forward to making this trip every year now. A chance to see old friends and make some new ones.

What Jay said

For me, the Derby is much like Las Vegas. After three days of total immersion in pool and everything else, I'll O.D. if I try to make it any longer.

I too liked the old Hotel, but the casino is much classier. Just be prepared to walk! Never took a pedometer, but I'm guessing I put in several miles per day. Have a blast!

Disneyland is right...

Proper footwear is a MUST!! A lot of walking in between the hotel-casino if you aren't lucky enough to grab a seat on the golfcart shuttle.

See you soon!!

Adding a photo.....Bldg 1 is where everything is happening.

Gregg and Chad have one VERY fan-friendly feature to this event that you need to be aware of. (I know, should be "of which you should be aware." Participles and I have never gotten along well.)

Anyway, if you REALLY want to get immersed in Derby City, go as a player. A player badge gains you admittance to the event just as a spectator pass does, but it is CHEAPER! And, as a bonus, you get to actually play in the events and just might come away with a story about how you beat a champ! OK, probably not, but what the hell, one fantasy is as good as another.

It's actually good exercise to make this walk a couple of times a day. Maybe a half mile each way at the most. Probably a little less. I know I can walk it in 7-8 minutes and do it in five minutes if I have to. The good news is that it's all indoors! You can see the snow outside as you walk down the warm hallway. Yes, I will take the shuttle if it's there. :)

Someone said it was right at 1/4 mile from hotel down to casino.

As far as top name players, who is attending? I believe I read many of the Europeans will not be there this year do to an event conflict. Are the Filipinos expected to be there? If so, which ones. Will Hatch make an appearance this year?

If someone that can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.

Have not been to the derby since 08 and have no plans to go until the derby returns to a hotel near the city. The casino limits choices as we did have at the old site near by the city such as restaurants and other hotels, budget money as well look for other entertainment!.:sorry:
