Monster pool by R. Martinez

I went on the road with Rafael back in the 1980's and not only did we win alot of money from people who did not know him, we took off some big names too. Rafael goes for some hard shots that nobody else would try and makes them most of the time. He would pull shots out of his ass that you would figure were stupid and make them. Even the guys were we were beating would laugh and enjoy the show.

I think Rafael is second to Reyes at making crazy shots.

man thanks for that post that's awesome. I play with Rafael here at Jointed Cue during tournaments and man he's still a beast to play against.

i met ralph once a few months ago. i thought it was pretty funny because my accustats video of the month club video came and it was a match with him vs earl strickland. he's a nice guy. a little quiet but a nice guy

We (Instroke) sponsored that event. Rafael beat Bustamante and Busty asked me afterward what he did wrong, I said, "you lost the lag". (not orginal on my part).

Shortly afterward we started sponsoring Rafael for a bit while he was in Germany.

The tournament match that is not on video but should be is one final between Rafael and Larry Nevel. Think of two super power stroking monsters going head to head.

Rafael plays a safety shot on Nevel that was insane - dead nuts perfect with no way out. Except he forgot he was playing Larry Nevel.

Larry makes a monster masse kick shot that came from hell itself. He resafes Rafael and ends up winning that game, the set and the tournament.

Rafael came to our club and gave us two days of clinics. Just an amazing player and a good teacher as well.

And don't give him a full cue jump shot. At 5ft and a few inches he jumps like Kobe Bryant.

Are you high or something? Where in hell did this comment come from?

And I was talking about Rafael jumping with his FULL CUE. He is one of the best in the world at it. I'd even stake him in a jump shot contest using 58" regular cues against Earl Strickland.

i'm just giving you s*it bro. it's a joke chill

He lost 15-14 in the finals to Archer after playing some of the most incredible pool ever at the Sands (Dec 94). I think he shot over .950 in a couple matches prior to the finals and was making everything he shot at.

Its weird though...I hardly ever seem to recall him missing, but he just hasn't won as many big tourneys you would think he should win.

I haven't watched too many of his videos in a while, but I seem to remember the only shots he missed where either leaning over the table or shooting with the bridge. Other than that, his break just wasn't Earl or J. Archer strong and that's hard to fade at nine ball.

He plays a wild man's game of one pocket.

Rafa Martinez

Thank you for the link. One of the best sets of 9 ball I ever saw. Always knew Rafa was Jam Up, but that was special!!!

A young Busti in the electric chair - WOW, that's something you don't see everyday. Thanks for the post.

And kudos to Instroke for sponsoring that event :).

Dave

If you snoop around there are more matches between Rafeal, Souquet, & Buste...& O'Sullivan, Strickland, Varner...

Thanks for the heads-up!
