Hello AZer's,
I'm making available a very collectable Gus Szamboti cue.
This is an earlier work from the Master. Barry puts the year from 1973-1976.
It has very prominent old school Bushka rings above and below the wrap.
The thick phenolic bands and the large maple block rings are early techniques used by Gus. Makes for a very Rare unique look on this beautiful Szamboti.
The veneers are Black, Orange, pale Gold and White.
The cue is 58" and weighes 20.0 -20.1, and has 2 beautiful straight 13.1mm and 13.25mm original Gus shafts.
This cue has been fully authenticted by Barry Szamboti.
It has an older looking patina, BUT.. Barry has indicated the cue has an older refinish job done to it, not known by whom. There is some finish lifting at the rings.
This cue plays absolutely incredible, and is certainly a looker..

damn ken what a stunner...gl with your sale....not that this cue even needs it....mickey

i cant argue with Barry, but I would say it has to be closer to 73 than 76, I might even go to 70-73. But Barry knows 1000 times more than I do. It seems like it should be old, just looks that way to me. I bet it plays great-better than the average Gus.

I havent seen one like this before, ever. I bet it was ordered like that by the origonal owner. Thats my guess. I wish these cues could talk, it would be interesting to really know. I agree it looks like it was refinished a real long time ago.

Thats a good find forsure.

sorry i missed your call today I was ZZZZ, jet lag. Ring me anytime, if i'm awake I will answere, infact I will be up late tomarrow night-I just remembered that i'll be at the tattoo shop, perhaps we can come to a deal.

Hey Eric,
This cue couldn't be around the 70' period.
Gus started making Titlist and Wico blanks in 69'.
Gus didn't start making his cue blanks till late 72'. Palmer started getting them shortly after, just about 73'.
So, the time frame 73-76' should be right on the money. It is a beautiful early example, that hits a ton..
Actually, Barry's first cue has the same block ring on it, without the metal.
Just an interesting fact..
Always a pleasure speaking with you buddy..
Best,
ken
