How good of a pool player was MR.Gulyassy in his prime,i heard in my home room that mike was top top player, and that wasnt just anybody saying that, that was a man that won 9 straight maryland all around championships,so this man knows what he is talking about.

I never saw him play in his prime but even after he took up the cue biz and quit playing regularly he could still play strong, still does.

He was on a winning Mosconi Cup team if that means anything to you. Mike can play world class speed.

He gave it up to make cues but he can still dab it.

I can say one thing about Mike...I saw him playing in Des Moines one time (mid-90's) and when he broke on the BB it sounded like no other. Normally a hard breaker creates a sharp cracking sound as the CB hits the rack. His break was so solid that it sort of resonated the table with this deep damped, thunderous sound. I'd never heard that sound before nor since. It sorta sounded like he took a full-sweeping swing at the 1B with a hard-rubber hammer. It was eery.

Sweet Pea was just a ball as they say under the best during his heyday from my point of view. In match play they all had their hands full and would much rather play him at the end of tournament than the beginning. One of the top best playing cue makers in the states of all time, I'd say easily in the top five. Best playing hard core cue maker, my pic, would have to be Bobby Hunter, then, don't know if I should throw Sigel in there, also Billy Stroud played all games well.

I would beg to differ with the end of the tournament action. I beat Johnny Archer and Buddy Hall both in their home towns in the finals and double dipped both, Johnny on a big table and Buddy on a bar table. I beat Grady in the finals in the Back Pocket 9 Ball Championships of the World from 5 nothing and never played the game before the tournament. Now hows that for tooting your own horn.

Your an east coast boy and all you guys play good. I was on the other side of the slab and always respected your game. A little toot myself, played Earl in the late 70's in Long Beach CA, and beat out of $2,000/4 sets of 9 ball. Don't think I could of beat em tho on a dry/clean table. Started off with the wild 8, then call 8, then last two, as he walking I said you got me even, he and Monroe still kept walkin'. On his way out I said, ''you'll be a great player when you learn to follow your cue ball'', enough said.
How difficult back then was it tho for you to beat Rempe in his prime, he was always as tough as they get in match play.
Tell Earl I said Hi.

Ok, you were 1/2 ball under Sigel, you'd still have your hands full with Bobby Hunter. :)

Hunter has my vote for the best playing cue maker.

I think you have to give mention to Dennis Searing and Rick Howard and Larry Nevel as well as Shawn Puttman as great playing cue makers. I have seen Mike and Bobby play a few times and they both played at top speed in the 90's when I last saw them. GO Earl--Leonard

I would not touch this with a 10 foot pool cue

no disrespect but If you want to play JA again, I'm sure we can work out something, not heads up-because you havent been playing. But a fair game.

Oh yes the cue you made for Dennis this year for the M-Cup was beyond amazing, I played about an hour with it, perhaps a bit longer. WOW. And besides the looks the cue played great. I played with last years cue i hit balls with it about 2 hours, this years cue was much better. You are one hell of a cue maker, not only for the looks but how they play. Great job,

I am retired from playing. I wish Archer and I would have played but he never would give me weight when I was playing and interested, now I don't believe there is enough weight. Thanks on the cue, you know Dennis is selling this cue.

Richie if ya really want to no there is a bartable tourney in youngstown...... I think if ya beat him out ya get a cue
