You're my keyboard hero
Because of you I now use serial commas
...and I'm up to 150 words....an hour
LOL! I am a keyboard kind of gal.
Here's a new one to enjoy about capitalization. I always got these confused until recently.
Knowing when to capitalize geographic areas can give one pause. North, south, east, west, and their various forums and derivatives (northwest, northern, et cetera) are *not* capitalized except when they refer to a recognized geographic area or section:
Just drive south for about six miles to find the school.
The western edge of the stadium is reserved for handicapped persons.
We were planning to move out West, perhaps to California.
We couldn't persuade Mary to leave the Northeast.
They spent most of their time in the south of France.
Note: Do not use capitals except for specific nicknames or specific geographic areas:
The south side of my street has several ramblers.
The western corner of the country is the most populated.
I was looking for an apartment in the northwest section of town.
I found an apartment on the Upper West Side.
He grew up in the South Side of Chicago.
We went to the Big Apple to see the broadway shows.
Remember to capitalize East, West, South, and North if they are locations, but do not capitalize east, west, south, and north if they are directions.
Clear as mud, right? :grin-square:
