Earl - Mars comment question/comment

But at this point even if Earl changed and tried to simply play pool the precedent has been set and people know that the buttons on Earl exist and they work so they will do their best to push them. If Ralph Souquet, Johnny Archer, Mika Immonen, or most other pros put on an Earl Strickland suit and then tried to play a match they would be pretty shocked at the blatent stuff the audience would be doing to them, they would likely get pissed off about it, they might say something, and thus now the reaction the crowd was looking for took place and they ramp up the stuff 10-fold.

Earl is pretty much screwed at this point, the crowd will always have its share of goofs in it that are not there to watch a pool match but instead want to needle Earl and try to get a rise out of him. It does not matter if Earl shows up that day feeling great and acts totally professionally at the beginning, that is not what those "fans" are there to see and they will do wahtever it takes to get the show they came to watch.

That's why a non bias no nonsense ref would be invaluable in situations like this...If Earl gets out of line he is warned about possibly having to forfeit if he keeps up at the same time defending him to hecklers in the crowd & ejecting them if they try n jerk his chain.

I dont know shane other than meeting him a couple times out in vegas. he doesnt seem like the type to say, "hey earl, thats some fckd up shit you said about me..." so I give props for John standing up for not only his horse, but his friend. I am that type of guy that would step in and correct someone for being wrong.

Alot of people have said that john couldve chosen better words, well I say fck that. Earl chose to say what he said and got it thrown back to him. If Earl is gonna throw rocks he better be willing to dodge when they get thrown back.

Agreed...that's the way I see it...A spade is a spade.

and why did it get to this point?
cause the way he treats them simple.
people treat you the way you treat them.

I agree with that totally. But at this point it is a screwy situation for Earl and the crowd both. No pro has treated the crowd like Earl has in the past and in turn no crowd has ever treated a pool player like they treat Earl. Earl made his own bed, he is forced to lie in it, but his opponents better bloody well realize that if they get into a match with Earl then they are jumping into that bed with that crowd and that different atmosphere that Earl has created. And Earl has no ability to turn that on or off at this point, you play Earl in a match then the crowd is going to be different, they are going to attack Earl, he will have to respond, and you will be stuck in the middle of it.

That is exactly what he needs. He needs Michaella Tabb there controlling him, telling people in the audience they have one warning, and a big bouncer that drags off the first couple hecklers and punts them out the door so that everyone in the crowd stays respectful, Earl stays quiet, and it is simply pool being played.

Mind you I am not sure if SVB can win if Earl gets to do nothing but concentrate on pool. When Earl quit with the crap last night in the last 15 games he played awesome and I don't know if SVB has a gear to keep up with that.

I agree...Earl still has game & is a great player...2 great players doing battle...The one who played the best should get the money without any bullshit or antics.

Whether it's a game for $10 or $10,000, either is too cheap for me to sell out my character.....people can gamble and be gentlemen, regardless of the cost....

Hank Williams Jr. had a great song called Attitude Adjustment.....the gist - some people need a beating to get them back in line......some people simply don't respond to anything else, you gotta speak a language that will drive change.....a broken nose and some broken ribs do a lot to change behavior.....not a violent guy and don't believe violence should ever be a first option, but some people need a good beating....words and logic just don't work on them because they got give a crap about anyone else....

No dog in the fight, just weighing in :D

HaHaHa... look at all the threads on just AZ since yesterday regarding Earl. Anyone can say what they want but bottom line is EARL SELLS TICKETS, and everyone here *****ing about his behavior will be tuned in for this match and likely be purchasing the one against Archer. GO EARL!! :yikes:

Is that directed at Earl or the hecklers in the crowd who are gambling against him?

You go ahead and believe that.

I mean I've only been around pool for 2 months, so what do I know.

If your trying to tell me that people go there just to put Earl on tilt, you have no clue.He starts his lunacy behavior, then people wait for himself to implode.
Your making it sound likes its all the crowds fault for his behavior.LMAO.
But,if its the crowds fault then he has earned it from the lack of respect to them.

I'm with you Sherm, I think that they both like each other and that Earl was frustrated by the crowd.

I agree with most of what you said, but one thing I would interject is that Earl truly likes Shane, and I believe Shane likes Earl as well. I don't believe Earl made that statement meaning to be disrespectful to Shane in any way. I think he was just frustrated by the way the crowd was acting and in his frustration he said what he did pertaining to HIM wishing he didn't have to listen to all the heckling. In retrospect it was not the best choice of words but I don't feel he meant any disrespect to Shane. On the other hand I also feel that John used poor judgement in what he said to Earl. And to come on the forum and reiterate his statement, making it plain that he meant exactly what he said, was also in poor taste. Threatening violence is never a smart move, especially in public!

I know, but let him have his opinion. I wish I could find the many threads where people talk about driving just to rile him up and then the times he was in England and before his blow up they just needled him more and more.

If you think that people do not intentionally "push Earls buttons" you're blind! Gee I'm sorry if I offended any blind people, but that's the way it is.

This isn't John Mars' first rodeo. If Earl got a talking to, he most likely deserved it. I know John personally and have very much respect for him as a person. John probably has the biggest stake in the game out of everyone involved. He is protecting his investment from any kind of ASSHOLISM. I also LOVE the wording that he used, it was perfect. Saying something wasn't going to end well, means whatever you want it to mean.. NEVER used a word about violence.
If your accountant tells you not to do something, or it probably isn't going to end well, do you think he is going to kick or ass..LOL....
Earl loves to shake the coconut tree, and that usually doesn't end well either..
Best,
Ken

If you know John, and I do know John, you know that he was seriously offended by Earl's remark. John does not make idle threats and he damn sure doesn't need anyone's help taking care of this. As for the alcohol theory I have had quite a few good times with John when he and I were drinking and drinking is not what caused this. Earl's classless remark to John's friend caused this. I never get into these types of threads but I really don't want to see my friend John thrown under the bus because of this.

Sorry for the double post!!!

I can't believe that you, of all people, would have typed that! A REF???? In a gambling match????? Are you kidding me?????????? Sheesh, I've seen guns pulled when one guy couldn't win any other way!

They are supposed to have a ref for the Earl/JA match that is supposedly gonna be nastier than this one...

We don't seem to agree much on here, but I totally agree with you on this post! Anyone making a big deal out of what Earl said about being deaf is just looking for a reason to hate. Nothing at all wrong with what he said. In reality, he was only saying that he wished he had the advantage in that area that Shane does. No different than most people saying they wished they had Shanes break.

It's not looking for a reason to hate, it's just in poor taste. Like someone else said one here, it's like saying to someone in a wheelchair that they're lucky b/c they don't have to deal with the effort of walking everywhere. It is very much different than saying they wish they had Shane's break - Shane's break is not a disability. Shane being deaf is - even if it isn't in this match, it is/has been in his life. Earl should be a little more considerate about that.
