But at this point even if Earl changed and tried to simply play pool the precedent has been set and people know that the buttons on Earl exist and they work so they will do their best to push them. If Ralph Souquet, Johnny Archer, Mika Immonen, or most other pros put on an Earl Strickland suit and then tried to play a match they would be pretty shocked at the blatent stuff the audience would be doing to them, they would likely get pissed off about it, they might say something, and thus now the reaction the crowd was looking for took place and they ramp up the stuff 10-fold.
Earl is pretty much screwed at this point, the crowd will always have its share of goofs in it that are not there to watch a pool match but instead want to needle Earl and try to get a rise out of him. It does not matter if Earl shows up that day feeling great and acts totally professionally at the beginning, that is not what those "fans" are there to see and they will do wahtever it takes to get the show they came to watch.
That's why a non bias no nonsense ref would be invaluable in situations like this...If Earl gets out of line he is warned about possibly having to forfeit if he keeps up at the same time defending him to hecklers in the crowd & ejecting them if they try n jerk his chain.
