What is Dippy Dave's Speed

This is a no knock thread. I've been reading about Dippy Daves' high dollar betting contests and getting some crazy spots.

I'm just curious what speed he plays. I'm sure his speed is not any secret as most have seen him play big names for big dollars. But just trying to put those crazy spots in perspective would help if we knew how he played.

You can use an APA handicap system to "rate" him because most know that system, or just use the following system:

A+ Pro or former pro
A Master level
A- Close to master / top league player

B+ Very good League Player
B Good league player
B- Average league player

C+ Below aveage league player
C Just a Banger
C- Drunk Banger / beginner

From what I've seen he hangs around B to B- according to your posted ranking system.

He banks pretty sporty at times and has some good 1 p moves.

Without your ranking system, if someone asked me I'd say he was a C player. Or a strong APA 4 to 5.

Best,
Brian kc

He would beat most B players playing 1-hole.

Just my humble opinion based on watching him for a few hours.

He deserves a LOT more respect (playing wise) than what a lot of people give him.

It just depends on which Dippy shows up more than anything... Could range from c to b. One pocket, Dippy thinks at A+ to semi-pro speed but executes in a c to b player range. But as with most people that don't play everyday, you don't know which monster will show up. Dippy could dab it a little before the brain surgery and his field vision problem..... Field vision issues and a 10 year lay off is no good.

Sweet, according to your APA scale I am a B+ player as a 7 with a high win %! Too bad I know I am really only a C player on most scales :(. Still...a C is a passing grade at least.

My estimate of Dippy's speed is closer to what Dippy thinks he plays and that is maybe, one ball under JoeyA.

Dippy's speed is about the same as a 200 car Coal Train going up a mountain.

I hear he runs about a 8.2 in the 40 yard dash. (7.9 if the wind is behind him)

Sorry for the knock:rolleyes:

Play for 10k=D player
Play for 20k=C player
Play for 25k or more=B player with flashes of A when needed.

Respectfully, I disagree and here's why.

Typically, Dippy is getting huge spots like 18-4.

When all you need to win a game is to sink 4 balls then it's an entirely different strategy than if you were playing someone even.

18-4 affords the player who only needs 4 balls a lot of luxury to free wheel some, without it resulting in a loss. For the guy who is giving all the weight, he messes up once, he could lose in a hurry.

Put Dippy up even against a real live B level, 1p player, and he would lose far more than he wins, IMO.

Nobody can deny, however, that he's real smart in how he matches up.

I think it was Bill Stroud who said that most gambling matches are decided before the first break, referring to the players' skill levels and the spots. I agree.

Best,
Brian kc

i have seen bursts of speed and him dog it worse than a banger, just like in poker , you cant get a read on him, he keeps it like that.
