Commentary on the streams

I agree with the breathing into the mike. Just back off a bit, very annoying.
And there is one person that I have noticed on a couple of different streams. I have no idea who it is. Every time a player makes a nice play, the only thing they say is "WOW".

It wouldn't be all that bad except that it is in the absolute most monotone drone voice you could ever imagine. By drone and monotone, I mean it sounds like they have a sinus block or they are pinching their nose closed.
Sometimes it is one Wow after another. Wow, wow wow.

If you want to hear what this sounds like exactly, pinch your nose with your fingers and say, WOW.

All I have to say is, WOW!

I think that was "kybill9" (Fast Lenny's co-commentator).

If all you heard was WOW, it's because Rafeal mp a couple of unbelievable shots and WE probably jumped up out of our seats dropping the mic. Lenny and I were both stunned to see him shot the five railer that lost the first game. It's not my position to question Rafeals shot selection but I would not have shot that shot even for two dollars. He sold out the game for what?
Lenny and I also had to balance our commentary with the closeness of our position to the players. They were right next to us. We could have been having a conversation with them as well as anyone else. How would any of you like to be playing and then have some shortstop question your selection AFTER the shot. Get off of it. It was FREE and you're being NITS.:grin::grin-square::thumbup:

I appreciate Bill and Alex for helping me with some commentary and they both enjoyed doing it. I had a good time and Chris was a great host. I find it funny after nearly every stream or event there are complaints over whatever. The fact is you were treated to some great one pocket for FREE. The audio sucked but not much I could do about it at that point as I had some spare mics that were crap, my usual Shure mics I use would not work without an adapter I am getting and its not something I can just pick up at radio shack or walmart, it has to be ordered. Anyone who has seen my streams, the audio is usually great but things happen, have a good day.

Lenny,
You, nor any of your other commentators should take the criticism too hard.

While some critics are simply jealous and want their few moments in the sun, standing on your shoulders, most critics are simply voicing their opinions with hopes that the live streams will be continuously be improved.

It's kind of hard to take unnecessary criticism, especially when the commentators and/or the live streamer is collecting peanuts or NOTHING from the critics.

I am starting to wonder if it would be reasonable if any of the viewers wanted to complain about the stream, they would be required to donate $20 to the huge coffers of the Live Streamers.

Seriously, the critics might consider sending a PM to the Live Streamer with suggestions for the future.

Also, some of the critics might even be willing to donate money or equipment to make your job easier and better. Most of the live streamers already know what their problems are but with very little funding, it is hard to effectively address all of the problems that they are faced with.

I know it's hard to take the criticism especially when the critics fail to mention all of the great things you do for pool and fail to mention what little compensation you receive but I believe, even the critics appreciate what you and the other live streamers do for pool.

Bill,

I was only replying to "who that commentator was", I don't know why you are going off on me.

Since you brought it up, I'll offer a lil unemotional criticism...

Your voice is not well suited for broadcast. You have a nasally, slightly whiny voice that can be very distracting. Also, you slur your words a bit; also distracting. While I'm sure you have good knowledge of Pool, the stuff I mentioned can make for a less than enjoyable broadcast.

You should hear him when you're trying to match up with him! :yikes::grin: (sorry Bill, I couldn't resist).

But seriously, I thought Lenny & Bill did a good job. Yes there was excessive breathing and such, but I thought the content was pretty good compared to some. I tried commentating w/Big truck while champions play and was tongue tied, who the heck am I to talk about their games and choices? I dogged it big time.

But one of my favorite commentator moments was when Cornbread Red said "that's the worst shot I ever saw in 1-pocket". Now that's commentating.

I want to thank Lenny and all his helpers for bringing us some fantastic 1-pocket!

I just think pool players in general and even those who are not really pool players and just hang out all day on the net always complain and are so negative. After every event there is someone unhappy about something but for the 1 that complains there are 10 that are happy and encouraging. If people were paying for it then they could be pissed off but when you getting something for FREE which is not FREE for me to put on then do not complain.

If you give a dog a bone you do not want to know if it taste good. I have been streaming pool since 08 all for FREE and will continue to do it but I do it less now than I did and who knows when I will do another one again because it is killing my pool game and I never play anymore.

I knew the audio was no good but at that point there was not too much I could do, will be better next time. I give the video an A and the audio a C-, usually my video is a B and the audio is an A+ but things happen. I just hope those who watched enjoyed the good one pocket and when I watch streams and the commentary stinks or there are audio trouble I just turn on some tunes and go to full screen or something with the sound on mute.

You know I never missed a ball or played a bad position from this computer chair. All thing are so easy until you are giving the task. You guys are doing a super job an giving so many of us some world class pool to watch. I just want to say thanks. Skip

I have a viewer that sends me e-mails occasionally that start off with, "This will probably get be banned from the show, but...) lol. :)

The viewers always have some good ideas and critiques. Input is what helps you get better (if you're ready to receive it).

I wasn't going off on you. I was making a general comment on what was being said. You try keeping your voice low and still try to make yourself heard. I slur my words because I don't understand the English language very well. If all the people watching the FREE broadcast are so disappointed, go out and spend thousands of dollars on equipment, travel a couple thousand of miles, pay for a hotel, sit in the same chair for three straight days, and do some broadcasting yourself. Then listen to a bunch of nits complain about it afterwards. When I was announcing, there were plenty of very nasty comments on the chat. How Lenny puts up with that crap is beyond me. He was really a great person to work with and the two of us had a great time. For myself, I was dirt tired after two days and didn't even stay for the finals. Hey, Lenny. Thanks for the fun and I missed you yesterday. I bought Mrs Kentucky over to meet you and give you some cookies but you weren't around. Next year I will make sure there is a place for us to broadcast that where we will not disturb the play and be able to be heard, whiny, slurring words and all. Did I mention Lenny and I both have Pay Pal accounts you can send money too? Thanks Dave for your assessment. You still get no spot.

I just had to say that line because I love that movie, anyone know the movie? :p

That was Bricktop in "Snatch".

"Listen you f***ing fringe, if I throw a dog a bone, I don't want to know if it tastes good or not." (You have to say it with a British accent) :)

Lenny, if I come down to Mesa, I owe you lunch at the deli across the street. I had a great time myself and I really could care less about what a bunch of nits have to say about FREE STREAMS. How much did it cost you to come up and provide all of it? It cost me about fifty dollars in drinks and food for the two days and I didn't have to travel from Az and pay for a hotel room. If you need the phone number of a certain banker, let me know. Thanks for the great time.;):o:)

Bill,

I'm sorry you are still on tilt.

For what it's worth, I have walked a mile in your commentator's shoes before.

Eric

You guys do a great job

I can't tell you how much I appreciate to be able to view these matches from the comfort of my home at little or no cost. I think you guys should take the criticism as a chance to improve an all ready great performance and try not to let it hurt your feelings and consider the source. I gladly pay my little fee for your usually great services.

Not a lot of rocket science here guys. BOOTH!! You need a booth. Not much more than a deer blind with nice windows.

its not that easy yo travel with a booth.
If you have to fly to where you are streaming there is no realistic way of bringing a plexiglass shield with you.

Actually I am working on a portable one as we speak. :)

I'm all about the portable.

the fact is the stream was FREE and there is a MUTE button, if you don't like what you hear use it.
I am not the best commentator out there but I have some experience and try to learn every time I do it.
Most people have no clue what it take to do a live stream.
Doing it by yourself can be a pain in the ass, you have everyone asking you questions on the chat at the same time you are trying to pay attention to the match, and of course you always have the guy who sees you in a booth in front of a mic or with headphones on who has to pick you to ask all his questions.

Not all people are suited to do commentary and those that think they are the best usually are the ones that suck.
Until you have been in the booth and dealt with all there is to deal with , GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE and enjoy a FREE stream.

For those who have constructive criticism to give in a polite way feel free, I know for a fact Lenny, Big Truck and Justin have learned alot from those looking in from the outside.

The places which REGULARLY host the live stream events should consider having a setup including plexiglass sound booth.

Keith from Emerald Billiards in New Iberia, LA is a man of many talents and can probably come up with a practical solution for your problem. Have you ever talked to him about the plexiglass sound booth problem?
