Paid my fees every week for a year, win the trip to Vegas but due to my
1st born i could not attend the week they were having the event...
I asked what would happen? Well my league operator said there was nothing she could do...i dont win anything at all.
All in the mean time she keeps asking me if i am gonna attend, and if not she didnt want to spend the money on a plane ticket....
So i figured she would attempt to figure out a way to compensate me for my time and my hard earned money i put into this APA league...
No compensation is apparently in order for me.
I have contacted APA and they are on board with there colleague...

:(:(:(:(:(

Apa $$$

Congrats' and condolences.

Another APA franchise stealing the players $$$ ! The prize for winning
the Regional Tournament IS the trip !

The whole APA organization is money grubbing~! Sorry you got shafted!

Do u get spending money on your trip? If you're angry just say you're going. Make em buy the ticket and don't go. If they provide some spending money or hotel money, take that, fly out, change tickets and fly right back.

Apa...

Don't hold me to it, and not that I'm defending the APA in the least, but I think our APA rep allows either the trip to Vegas (OR) equivalent payout for the plane fare and hotel stay...I only half listen when he's talking, so I could be wrong...but I don't think I am on this one.

Our division pays out and the team is responsible to make their own travel arrangements. You might try saying you are going ot arrive late and ask for the cash to make your own travel and hotel reservations.

When I took my team 2 yrs ago, one guy wasn't going, I gave him his share of the money and the rest of us went. After airfare and hotel we had a couple hundred spending money, and we were paid out for last place as soon as we got there and registered (another $50 apiece)

Sorry you can't go. It was a lot of fun.

I don't recall seeing the OP say the LO put any of the $$$ in her pocket.

You are right about one thing - the trip is the prize. In this case, the prize is for the TEAM. The TEAM gets to go, everyone who goes (presumably) gets a plane ticket paid for by the players $$$. There's a good chance (depending on how the LO does it, it varies from area to area) that the players who DO go will each get a little more. Some LO's allocate a set dollar amount per team for travel assistance, and some pay a certain amount for tickets/rooms for those who make the trip. In any case, if there's money unspent it doesn't go into the LO's pocket. It's used to provide more player benefits, like an extra tournament or nicer trophies or something. The LO doesn't pocket it.

Now, if the same thing happened for SINGLES, the APA would advance the player to the following year's national tournament to accommodate the newborn.

Just curious, how do you know THIS league operator doesn't pocket the money instead of having an extra tournament? I am sure, by what you said, that you do the right thing and funnel the money back into the league, but that doesn't mean that others will.

I am not bashing on the APA. It is not an APA thing, it's a people thing. There are some people who are generous and do everything they can to help. There are others that are greedy and take advantage at every opportunity. Some of these own APA leagues, some own McDonalds, some own nothing. People are people. How can you say for sure this person isn't screwing the OP?

I've read some of the APA threads and, just like everything else in the world, a lot of the experience lies with the person who runs it. No one can say it is all good or all bad. Haven't you had a job that was great, then you were assigned a new manager and it turned into the worst job you've ever had? That's what the APA LO is, a manager. Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get a bad one.

To respond to the OP, I play in an ACS league and when a team wins the trip they are allocated money for hotel and airfare. If you can't go, you get you're share of the spending money (but not the airfare and hotel). I'm sure each team does it differently, but we save that money to get someone else to go because we have to fill that spot for the team event.

I'm not sure how it works in APA as I have played an APA session but didn't win anything (other than a bunch of matches, lol).

Why couldnt i get the plane ticket money?? Obviously there was money put into a holding account for 4 players to fly....
I was honest about not being able to go and now i get nothing for my honesty...

Who ever plans that correctly anyway?? ha
All im saying is no matter what..the player deserves something for his/her efforts..
Apparently we have a crooked LO....No problem though... revenge is mine!!

When my team made it a couple of years ago, one guy couldn't go. He was able to sell his 1/2 of a room and plane ticket. Basically it meant a guy on our team brought his wife (who isn't on the team) by buying that ticket and room from our teammate. I am pretty sure the LO was going to give him the $$ otherwise. Only seems fair. However, you may have noticed that what you win from the APA is now called "travel assistance". Pretty clever on their part...

I knew there were ways of getting paid for your efforts....I know now it was the LO that kept the money for herself...Vicky Catalano Blue Ridge APA<--CROOK!

I don't think it's fair for you to accuse someone of being crooked when you have no proof of such. I talked with the local APA operator in my area about this tonight, and he explained it to me the same as the APA LO in this thread explained it to you: the APA has strict rules as to what happens to monies in situations like this and the LO's are subject to audits to make sure those rules are adhered to. I seriously doubt that any LO would risk losing their franchise just to pocket one person's plane ticket money.

The APA does have their rules, and they're probably not going to change them just to satisfy you.

I figure it is like the "LOTTO". You have to cash in on time or you forfeit your prize.

If the prize is the Vegas trip, if I were your LO I would give you a ticket to Vegas. If you can't go then its up to you to sell the ticket or let it go to waste.

Respectfully, go up the APA chain-of-command and find out eactly what the procedure is for this situation.

It may be that the LO's hands are tied.

TX Poolnut<---never played APA so I'm not sure if this is helpful

As I've said before, the APA rules are very "fluid" and a fair amount pf discretion is given to the LO's. The very existence of by-laws that are specific to certain franchises proves this point. I would like to see the APA abolish all by-laws and use a true national handicap system which cannot be overridden by the LO. If a player is gaming their handicap, they should be warned and then suspended or banned. As far as the travel money is concerned, it should be given to the team captain for distribution to the players. Just IMO...

Yeah, you're right. I don't know for sure that this operator doesn't pocket the money. My bad. MOST operators wouldn't, and the number who might are way fewer than some on these forums would like everyone to believe. My guess, and this is just a guess based on what I know of the operators in the network, is that there are more operators pulling money OUT of their pockets to help with travel expenses, as skyrocketing costs make it impossible to predict what you will need. This is also why it's called "travel assistance" and not a "free trip".

By the way, even if the operator does pocket the money, it's not illegal or crooked. It might not even be greedy, but in some cases it probably is. None of us are required by APA or by law to provide anything to teams/players in the form of awards, monetary or otherwise. It would be REALLY STUPID not to, but it's not a requirement.
