From the AZ front page where it says Archer canceled Runout Radio interview with Barry.
Why would you even schedule an important interview knowing you were committed to a pool tournament? I would think the duties of president of the ABP come before a pool tournament. As far as being too sick to get on a phone for less than an hour to do an interview, but can play in a pool tournament, well that is a school kids kind of excuse. Johnnyt

Yup, its pretty lame. About as lame as paying players 3 months after the fact too.

What a complete bunch of jerks some of you are. Johnny does not have to be anywhere in particular to do the interview, he could have done it from his current location. However he is currently unwell, is having trouble talking and thought postponing was therbest course of action rather than people having trouble understanding what he is saying.

But of course the usual retards on here who can't or don't read things completely wouldn't have known that.

Majic...In general, I agree with you. That said, please re-read this post from another thread. IMO, it addresses this issue well...

You need to look at this from another perspective...that of an independent contractor, which is what professional poolplayers are (as am I, btw). An independent contractor is responsible for paying all up-front costs associated with whatever work they are contracting to provide...in this case, to show up to a tournament, and play in said event. IF they manage to finish high enough, they will be paid for 'performance on their contract'. If they fail to finish high enough, they will be S.O.L. and have no recourse to get reimbursed for their expenses (this is the "gamble" a tournament player takes, just to enter and play). In this specific case, Barry has been late in paying SOME of the highest finishers. The truth remains, though, that the majority of 'cashing' players are paid immediately after the event. Should Barry be able to pay ALL the players immediately? Yes...on that point we agree. That said, for an event that has run 35 years, and has attained 'legendary' status around the world, Barry does a pretty good job, and offers perks to many of the players. If I won $40k and knew I was going to get it, even if I had to wait 30/60/90 days, I would be happy (perhaps not as happy as if I was paid now...but still happy).

I work, as an independent contractor, doing my shows at colleges and military bases. I always ASK to be paid at the conclusion of the event. However, some schools payment procedures do not allow this, and I get paid usually within 30 days. The military is different. They NEVER pay upfront, and often take 60-90 days to pay, because of red tape paperwork and government process. I will tell you, quite frankly, I never mind "being owed" by these entities, because I KNOW I am going to get paid...eventually. Barry has never failed to pay...only to pay some players on time. That said, I will give him the benefit of the doubt once again, and see what happens this year. The pro players should do the same, imo.

Do people even read articles before posting about the subject?? How stupid!!

I don't think anybody is doubting that Johnny is ill, but I do think that some -- not all -- may have the opinion that Johnny could have or should have addressed this issue a long time ago before it got to this point.

Your point maybe valid but I get so pissed when people do not read things fully or maybe intentioally leave them out to make one side or the other look bad. That happens to both sides in this ongoing issue and that does nobody any good. If we want our sport to move forward we have to start facing our problems head on and telling the truth aba need to get both sides in the same roomout the issues in the sport. If this is not resolved it could just be another nail in the coffin of Pro Pool in the USA.

I am slowly comming to the opinion that there is a need to get both sides in the same room with an experienced mediator. Let both sides lay out their positions frankly and honestly, with no recriminations from either side being a first agreement. No statements from either side should be released to the press until concluded. Both sides will need to compromise, it's about getting them to see that and moving forward from there. During my working life I have dealt with negotiations between many different entities including large international businesses, unions, healthcare providers and nothing good ever came from playing out the negotiations in the press.

Welcome to my world. I live in D.C. where negotiations are played out in the press every single day. :p

OMG...............thats pretty tough, I don't think I could do that, every time I see them on TV I just want slap them and tell them to actually earn their wages for a change

Your comments are completely juvenile....so sit in the corner boy :)

I think the more interesting story is how Corey Deuel got voted off of the ABP board when they never voted on it nor were they asked to vote him off the board. It sounds to me like the ABP board is either corrupt, inept or incompetent.

Corey Deuel Wishes to Speak for Himself

Would everyone please stop putting words in my mouth on this issue! I would like to make it clear that I have not yet committed to play in the US Open. I did tell Barry that I was not notified and did not read the ABP press release before it was made public. I currently am confused as to my position. I was originally on the "3 year" board of the ABP and then I got a call from a player saying that I was no longer on the board.

I talked to a few other players who told me that they never voted nor were they asked to vote me off of the board. If I am on the board then I would have liked to have had the opportunity to look over the details of Barrys offer. And have a chance to vote. From my position I want to let the players know they have my support but I need to know that it really is the players who are doing the talking here. I think to make this official Barry should put his offer in writing and the players involved should sign or email their final decisions about this matter.

Curiouser and curiouser....

Methinks this will get messy before it's over. One wonders if there will be seriously hurt feelings between friends when this is all said and done. I hope not, but then again, I hoped it would be handled better from the start.
