Which instructional videos are best for drilling the basics? My wife and I have been reading tons of books from the library on the subject and was wondering what the best videos are out there.

In my opinion, the dvds by Dr Dave and Tom Rossman are excellent

Do a search on google for Video Encyclopedia of Pool Shots . The first result should take you to Dr Dave's website. There are video samples on the site, so you can see the teaching style and which dvds might do you the most good.

.

The Pool I.Q. videos by Lil Joe Villapando and the best thing to ever happen to pool videos. The stuff he lets you in on for kicking and cue ball control are out of this world, and as the slogan says best "Make a calculated shot not a guess shot". This is so consistent its unrivaled. You can check it out for yourself at www.pooliq.net.

Bert Kinister's 60 minute workout is great for learning the appropriate application and control of english.

Check these out

There is an old time hustler, and bank pool Hall of Famer named Bentivegna that has two dynamite DVDs that cover aiming, fundamentals, and complete bank pool coverage, along with comedy relief breaks where he interrupts the lesson with an entertaining road story.

DVDs are:Banking With the Beard -- the Movie and Banks That Don't Go -- But do!

My Recommendations:

Introduction: Mike Page (Youtube), Randy G., Force follow, Tom Rossman.

Intermediate: Dr Dave and Lil Joe V.

Advanced: Freddy the beard, Dr. Dave, Jack Kohler.

Recommendations based on having read and used all of these texts and videos.

Recommendations are in order. That is, I think Mike Page is the “best” of the Intros.

I haven’t read everything but I have read well over 30 books videos, etc.

I agree... this Bentivegna feller will hook you up with the banking part of the game. He also has been around the game for his entire life (he's a older dude, so that's a lot of years:smile:) so if the guy had the ability to tell a story or 50, he would be a great source of information.

As luck would have it, this Freddy "Da" Beard feller IS a great storyteller, so not only do you get great instruction but he'll take you back to the real days of pool.

You can't forget about learning banks. Having confidence in your banks will keep you from having to shoot "Shots that don't stand a chance in hell of going, and won't":D

I was really impressed with the Max Eberle series of DVD's. Really stresses the fundamentals for one just learning how to play.

I agree, I have this and it is excellent for the fundamentals. I have also heard the "Play Better Pool, Vol1" is good for fundamentals as well.

Over the years we've carried quite a few different instructional DVDs. From the feedback we've received over the years (sales, customer comments and return rates, etc.), the Mastering Pool DVDs that Runout Media produces consistently rate among the best. Top notch quality and very easy to follow.
