Future of American Pro Pool: Young Guns

I don't think these guys will ever go anywhere.

Many have already developed there adult habits, and few of em have the work ethic and determination of players such as Archer/SVB. Our enviornment here in the states is not conducive YET to produce a herd of young talent for the ''Pie in the Sky'' Olympics if and when it ever happens.

My pick to win the first Olympic pool event, if it were ever to happen in the next 20 yrs, would be SVB's 1st born child.

Help get pool on TV. Vote for Pool Kid now. It is free and you don't have to register.

Vote for Pool Kid as many times as you are willing: POOL TRICK SHOTS!

How about Jesse Bowman heck he isnt 30 yet! I remember when he was playing all the time 7 to 8 years back he was hard to beat and still is.

Yeah, but the DREAM of the olympics happens in 2022 he'll be past his prime by then, and if there's blood in the water (meaning other kids can NOW see a good reason to train) then the newer younger players in their early 20's would be a tough beat.

Very true!

Had the letters switched around. I do agree with you though.

You have to agree with this. Jesse Engel is really putting in the work and it's only a matter of time before he starts to rack up the wins. We have to keep in mind he's only 19. He has a long and bright future in pool.

what about Shannon Murphy..I know about 3 more that play as good as 80% of that list and they are all under 25 but I cant put their names on there for future betting purposes..haa haa and if your gonna put Klatt in there we gotta give the other Kid Canada honorble mention..Ladies and gentlemen..Give a big North American welcom for Johnny Morra...

Justin Hall

Please put justin hall on the list... he's beaten Rodney Morris and many of the top americans... and he's gotten 3rd at Derby city! Real high gear!

Sincerely,

Raymond Linares

I'll second the nomination for Justin Hall. I've played him...well, I sat there quietly and had a beer while he put a 7-pack on me. :o He placed ahead of several on that list in the last Seminole event at Capone's.

Justin Hall, is an open class player and will shoot the lights out if you let him.

Anthony Meglino from the Hollywood area is as tough as nails and along with Justin may just be 21.

Danny Satinoff won the Florida State Amateur title and the kid breaks like Shane... did i mention he may just be 18...

Mike Delawder is getting seasoning and he's from the Orlando area and isn't afraid to mix it up with anyone and plays good all games.

There's some more i'm forgetting I'm sure, but you don't have to like it against these young champions in FL.

Your whole list has action

Hey guys there are a few kids I see locally idk if they should be on this list or not, I know they play some of the GSBT events. How do these kids match up on this list? Adam and Marcus Pendley and Josh Newman

Things look bright for American pool with a long list of names such as these. I had not realized there were so many Young Guns.

Every pool player has a winning streak, and some players enjoy this streak for a longer period of time than others. Efren Reyes' streak, as an example, seems to be timeless. Shane Van Boening seems to be just entering his streak this year, winning just about every event he plays in.

Johnny Archer's streak has lasted for decades. Earl's streak lasted for a decade or more. Of course, Johnny and Earl are not washed up today. Each one of them is capable of catching lightning in the bottle. Their seasoning and ability to adapt to new equipment is much better than their younger counterparts. Consistently winning as in back-to-back tournaments, as Shane is doing today, may not be as easy for these two as it once was.

The romanticism of the '80s era with all of its road warriors and action a la Ronnie Allen, Cornbread Red, Vern Elliott, Jew Paul, et cetera, was killed by technology. Movies such as "The Hustler" and "The Color of Money" glorified gambling, making it look fun and adventuresome, but anybody who's traveled that road knows the downsides of living out of a suitcase.

Action today isn't like it used to be with two gunslingers stepping up to the plate and firing at each other. There was no extensive debate about matching up, handicaps, rules, and not too many people engaged in gaffe games giving up ridiculous spots just to get played. Some locksmiths today don't want to gamble; they want to steal, looking for somebody to drop their wallet.

We now enter the era of the global tournament soldier. If you want to be a so-called "professional player," then you better be prepared to travel the world and compete with jet lag and fuzzy spiders the size of your hand dropping on your shoulder against tough competition against the likes of Filipino-, Taiwanese-, Chinese-, and Korean-sponsored champions. Marriage and family life is not conducive to this lifestyle, unless the player has a very strong partner to hold the fort together. Sacrifices will need to be made to succeed. It will be interesting to see how many of the American Young Guns are ready for the challenge.

Again, the Billiards Education Foundation (BEF) is a non-profit organization that is trying to develop young players, providing them a platform to showcase their skills. Charlie Williams and Max Eberle both benefitted from the BEF in their teenage years. I support the BEF much more so than the fickle BCA and WPA when it comes to the future.

Take a moment to check out the BEF website: http://www.billiardeducation.org/

If everybody who voted for Steve Markle to get on the Ellen Degeneres Show donted $1 to the BEF, it could make a difference in the future of American pool.

Much better list from the first one, Jam! Yeah, Hunter is 32....he's closer to Alex Pagulayan & Donny Mill's age. And nice addition with Justin Hall. That kid's got raw talent. But I must say, I'm not familiar with half of these names:confused: I'm outta the loop!

Thx,
What a rivalry, could be like the Williams sisters.

Be great to see another SD 8 Ball Express Van rollin' down the highway again. Which family member taught Shane, do you know, and did Dick Spitzer help out in any way?
