The US Open is quickly approaching and will be here before we know it. We are committed to improving the event each year. In order to do so, we will be restructuring the prize fund to pay all of our foreign and American players deeper. In addition, we will be adding $50,000.00 regardless of a full field or not, although we do expect a full field of 256 players since we have worked out a resolution with the ABP, thanks to the assistance from the BCA. In regards to the Prize fund we are going to reduce first prize to $30,000.00 and going to spread the $10,000.00 among the remaining players. We have always been firm believers that the more people you pay, the more that return the following year. So, here is the breakdown for the 2011 US Open prize fund:

Total Purse- $178,000.00

1st $30,000
2nd $15,000
3rd $10,000
4th $8000
5-6th Each $6000
7-8th Each $4500
9-12th Each $3000
13-16th Each $2500
17-24th Each $2000
25-32nd Each $1500
33-48th Each $1000
49-64th Each $750
65-96th Each $500

*This includes past champions paid entry fees.

Looks like the past champions' entries are still paid by Barry.

Same money payouts but spread longer in the field. I like it.

I love it.... 30k will ensure the world class pros show and a deeper payout should ensure enough also rans show to make a full field.......

The ABP can't like it one bit since someone off their boycott list will likely win it and be short 10k that was used to sew the field for the lower finishers...

I just have to wonder if Barry would have made the change if the ABP hadn't raised such a fuss... I want to think no just because =)

I think it's a good change. The difference between first ($40,000) and second ($15,000) was extreme. The new schedule pays an extra $500 for 13th-16th, an extra $500 for 17th-24th, and an extra $250 for 25th-32nd.

I just spoke to Barry and he went over the new payouts with and I think they are awesome. 30k for 1st place is still really great but to make the other payouts behind 1st place higher is even better! Now alot of players will be making a better payday. Good luck to all the players this year! I look forward to seein everyone there.

I like the new structure better myself. Even though it is no longer economically feasible Barry will continue to pay the entry fee for past champions. Additionally he puts in the extra $100 for all early entries ($400 each). Those two things amount to 10K+ each year in hidden added money costs. I can see the day when only the defending champion gets a free entry. The extra 10K would go a long way toward helping Barry with his expenses. Try $14,000 for bleachers alone, and that's just one of many expenses he incurs every year. His tourney staff is at least another $10,000 for everyone who works the event. Nope, the ballroom ain't a freebie either!

I would eliminate the free and discounted entries in a heart beat. A nice gesture that some have taken for granted.

You know, no good deed goes unpunished..............

Barry tries to be a man of his word and he has told the Past Champions they will always get their entries paid and he takes pride in doing it..... His Ego makes him write those checks and we are in no position to judge....

As for early bird specials... I think they need to be dropped... Especially since he has restructured the payouts to go deeper into the field...

The only entry fee that should be paid is the defending champion, and thats just out of courtesy.

No early bird specials. In fact, there should be a $50 extra for paying late.
Barry doesn't get any deals on his overhead.

There has been a lot of extras that people have been taking for granted
for many years.

ihave felt he is an very underly appreciated guy for a long time. Some things have not gone well, i well understand, but he has never run and hidden from anything. The behind the scenes and details going into this is far more mind boggling than most can ever realize.
i agree he will have to rethink paying all those past entries and soon. it is a very generous gesture, but i feel tournament promoters are going to be forced to look at many things in the near future. i know the players will not like it, but reality will have to be dealt with!
WOW, $14,000 for bleachers?? Insane!!

Oh yeah I love it! I bet the ABP was so proud of themselves for getting some of their demands met and now they see first prize reduced to help the players who didn't threaten a boycott and now they are like, "Doh!"

I think the ABP will be just fine with this. The prize fund will now be spread more evenly across their membership. This will make more players happy.
