Thanks For "The Clash of the Titans"

The event ended at about 2:30 in the morning Toronto time and could have gone on quite a bit longer if Shane had tied the finals at 2 sets apiece. With a 4-person event, running that late really is unnecessary. I'll just attribute this to the imponderables in planning the first event of this type.

it ended late because they started much later than they intended to. that was a by product of the late night before when the players were interacting and playing with the fans.

Kind of related to my first point, more is not necessarily better. Instead of best-of-5 sets to 75 points, perhaps best-of-3 sets to 100 points would be enough. Alternatively, did the round-robin portion during the first two days really accomplish much (it "seeded" the 4 players for the single-elimination finals)? Wouldn't a random-draw double-elimination format accomplish about the same thing? That would have produced a total of 6 matches instead of the 9 that were played.

the first two days were used for "seeding" but mostly it was used for fans to watch these players play and to try to ensure that they play each other. if they had a random draw, there is a chance u wouldnt have seen them play each other at least once. the whole point of the event is for the fans to watch these guys play. clearly they werent trying to run a traditional style tournament or else u would have more guys in it, not just 4 players. and double elim wouldnt make it go by quicker. the reason it took so long was because each match was on the tv table. so if u had a double elim tourny u would have just as many matches since only one match can be played at any given time. the 2 semis, then b-side match, a-side final, b-side final, finals. thats 6 matches which is the same amount as saturday and sunday. the 3 extra matches on friday were more for the fans than anything else. one other thing is, while it may have been hard for guys to sit in front of a computer to watch it for hours at a time, this format was way better for people in attendance. since the tables were open for play guys would shoot a bit, come back to watch then go shoot some more. it was good to have more matches, that way u can watch some of it and play without missing out.

best of 3 to 100 points might work but i dunno if it'll make a lot of difference. it might actually end up being longer. points-wise the grand total is less but each game is longer. it's like playing a race to 15, u'd think it'd just be twice as long as a race to 7 but it usually ends up being way longer. race to 7 might take 40-60 minutes whereas a race to 15 goes at least 2 hours, usually more. i'm comparing 2 close games tho, not a 7-6 game to a lopsided 15-4 win or something like that.

I loved the format, loved the stream! My only complaint is that I was glued to the screen and didn't get much else done all weekend!

I had the chance to do the commenting with Alvin and J.R all weekend for this great event... So to answer a few questions about how this event went. The race to 75pts is a apa/cpa rule we had the players play as a sl9 (thats the highest you can go) and the race to 3 was just the right race. And as for thr pros playing on a bar box i can tell you one thing yes they made balls of the break( Alex made 5 a few times) But with the no push rule and no jump cues made them sweat even on a bar box.......

I have been part of several stream, commentating and helping set up.

This was very well run, the quality was amazing and no internet issues.

The commentary was not professional but who cares. It was guy that knew about pool and where having a good time.

Commentary is no where close to as easy as some people may think.

Having 4 PRO's who are truly just that PRO's. They acted like pros had fun with the crowd and each other.

THese 4 guys should be the model for all pros to act. IF you want respect you earn it by being respectful. Not just because you call your self a pro.

I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.
West Jet often has seat sales to Toronto and we have made tentative plans to be there for next years event.

BTW, got my autographed cueball as promised. I can't believe they let them go so cheap! WOO HOO!
