Tip Tools

Cocobolo Cowboy....

I'll put my money where my mouth is... will you :)

I will send you one of my tip tools, if it is the best shaper - scuffer - mushroom repair - burnishing tool you have ever used, pay me for it.

If it is not, just throw it away.

PM me with your preference of Dime or Nickel shape & your mailing address.

Joel

Joel thank you for your offer, but what I have works well for me so I see ZERO REASON to change what works.

You left off It's George tip shaper and scuffer.....Comes in the little pouch....Can't wear it out...Made of some sort of metal...

What desperate house-cue tip care techniques have y'all used? Before I owned a cue, I would take a house cue with a glazed or flat tip and shape it against the mortar in a brick wall, which is almost always a good radius and abrasiveness. Then I would lick my thumb and run it around the edge of the tip to moisten and soften it.... then mash it/roll it against a hard table with pressure from the heel of my hand. It would fix most mushrooms, and give a good burnish to the edge. Get the bartender to dab a napkin with some everclear to get the oil off the shaft, and you're ready to go, fellow college student pool players. And if you are out of chalk, you can buy one of those spring-loaded mechanic's grabber tools for about a buck, with the claw on the end, to get old lost chalk out of some old coin-ops. Every Irving Kaye table comes with its own chalk my friends.

I like this, you're pretty smart. Sometimes in bars, I just used my most coarse key (usually the house key) to rough up the tip. And a pack of matches to burnish the edge. Just wet the edge of the tip with moisture from your mouth, and use the matchbook cover to burnish all around. Now at least you've got a decent tip to play with. That same matchbook cover also works wonders on the shaft. Rub vigorously and it will smooth it out a bit. I know, I'm a sick puppy! :p

Joel can you post an instructional video on how it's used?

I have the "Ultimate Cue Tip Tool" but it's not so ultimate when it scratches up the ferrule nor when it can't burnish my 11.75mm tip.

Ultimate Cue Tip Tool for me...I used it my whole career. However...I didn't know the name of this tool just loved it.
Dave Gossman called me one day to ask if I would endorse his tip tool. Not knowing the tool (or so I thought) I asked him a little about it. I told him I would like to try it and I would get back to him.
Needless to say it was the Ultimate....I went to my bag and there it was...I of course called him right back and got the endorsement. I used it for free for years...its always nice making a few bucks ta boot.

I have done the same thing. I learned it from an old guy in the pool hall when I was a kid. He had worked in pool halls since the 40s or before up until the 70s or later. I learned to fix tips, replace ferrules, repair tables, and lots of other stuff from him. He forgot more about pool and pool halls than most people ever knew and I enjoyed listening to him and learning from him.

I am heading to Canada for a short break from the Florida heat. When I get back on 9/7 one of my top to do items is to film some videos and put them on the web.

The page is all set up and ready to go, I just need an afternoon to wrap it up.

Thanks for your interest

I lived by that method for years playing in bars.

Then I bought a cue...and well...you probably know the rest of the story.

I used the keys, too!!!!

the brick wall is the best by far, but some places don't have one. The keys work best if you line up all your keys with the teeth parallel and spin the cue over them. I am glad you brought that up. Nothing sucks worse than a glazed tip, so I don't care if you are a sick puppy or not, you gotta do it to it sometimes. Great input sir.

Thanks...
