I'd like to see a set of no safety no pushout 9-ball. Or a good set with the old school 2 shot rules. Let them play shoot em up bang bang like that.

Daz Appleton will anal rape SVB playing bar table 8-ball. Daz on a bar table is kinda cool, just saying he makes that predator shaft worth buying.

I'd love to see Hopkins run a "king of the open" tournament and invite all the past winners to play instead of making them play the pro event. It would be great to see guys like Wines, Clutterbuck, McNally, Brothers, Ussery, etc. battling it out in a longer race format on a bar box.

The best players on the barbox are the best players period for the most part. The barbox is an easier table and closes the gap for alot of players with not enough stroke to be the best on the 9-foot but the best players on the 9-foots with a small amount of practice on the box can play at or above the level of a bar box specialist on the box.

SVB is certainly right at the top, in a race to 120 or so on the box I am not sure anyone would want a piece of him on the box. Alex P is a phenomenal bar box player, again, one of the best on the planet on a 9-foot too. Darren Appleton would slaughter most of the "bar box specialists" as well.

The bar box is a great equalizer for otherwise shortstop/near pro level players and some of those players like to specialize on the box, but it does not matter, they are still shortstops and there are still top pro's that can jump onto a box in a long set and will get the money more times then not.
 
There is really only one game I truely love to watch on the box and that's bar rules 8 ball. Behind the line and all that other crap. Best game to sweat IMO.

Agree with Mikey, let SVB try and fade DA playing some 8 ball...
 
SVB is the best player american player on 7ft, or 9ft ....PERIOD. And there should not even be a debate......

It's been a debate every day for the last few years and he just keeps on provin' he's the best....... that boy's from another planet.
 
SVB is clearly the best in the long run, IMO.

After that, the list is long. There is Jesse Bowman, Scott Frost, DA, Alex P., Orcullo, etc...

Celtic has a very good point. At the end of the day, pool is pool. A strong short stop will not suddenly become a world class player just because the game is on a bar box.

I have seen Chip Compton play a few times. I would pick Alcano, Orcullo, Alex, Bowman, Scott, DA over Chip on the bar box in a long race.

Perhaps TAR or TheBigTruck can put together a match on a bar box.
 
I just gotta ask....how many times does James Barraks have to finish in the top 3 (winning a couple) at Shooters in Olathe outlasting guys like Chip and Jesse before anyone would consider him in their league?
 
This should really be "who is the 2nd best barbox player today." Nobody will play Shane on the short track and if someone does, let me know, I'll get in line to stake him. As for the 2nd best there are about 10 ppl that could be argued. Larry Nevel is def. one of them, along with oscar domingez, jesse bowman etc.

For those who haven't seen this - its a 9 ball match on a 7 footer.
The scoring is different. 1 point a ball except 2 points for the 9.
Race to 75 is a set.
This was best of 5 sets.
Awesome barbox play.
 
The OP mentioned the Diamond bar box....to me, it has changed every thing.
I think any 9 ft pool player can play his game on a Diamond 7 ft.......
...so whoever is playing the the best 9 ft IS the best on these 7 footers.

..now, if you start considering CUE BALLS....then I feel this discussion
could get interesting....who is best with....
the big ball
the mud ball
the magnetic ball

personally, I feel anyone I can beat on a 9 ft...I can beat on a Diamond 7

but I won't even mess with them with bar cue balls..spinning for position
is a whole new experience with bar cue balls
 
For those who think SVB is the big dog of 7ft Diamonds, I watched with my own two eyes, as John Morra was giving Shane a real hard time in their gambling session at SBE this past March.

That was until Shane started getting the hang of using John's Predator BK2 break cue (phenolic tipped) as his playing cue for the entire set which was part of their bet. :grin: :thumbup: :grin:

This SVB guy really is a beast. :smile:
