Who's the BEST barbox player today?

Regards to betting, I would ship it with Chip vs the world except SVB.

And for the record I like Chip much more than SVB.

Figure that one out Ray..

There was a guy named Norm Wines who played in the SBE twice and won it both times.... never heard of him again. Anybody know about this guy?

Norm Wines......AKA "Stormin Norman"......He is from Michigan....He plays just as good as any on a bar table.....I watched him play a guy for a couple hundred and the spot was that he had to shoot behind his back.....That guy breaks and runs out on a bar table shooting behind his back better than most players play regular........He came to Cincinnati a few times and nobody here ever beat the guy playing pool or Gin.

SVB

Beyond that there are a bunch who could win. It would take a full day of play with around 80+ games to have any idea who was better. If not, it's just about the rolls on the break at that level.

Funny you bring gin up, the last time I saw Norm at the SBE he was sitting at a table downstairs.......... playing gin!

I'd love to see Hopkins run a "king of the open" tournament and invite all the past winners to play instead of making them play the pro event. It would be great to see guys like Wines, Clutterbuck, McNally, Brothers, Ussery, etc. battling it out in a longer race format on a bar box.

Double Dipper!

How bout Chip Compton?

Won 3 White Diamond events in a row, but how would hold up in a longer race? Maybe 2 out of 3 races to 30-35???

Ray

I saw Chip last night at Braums, but he was too busy serving up double dip ice cream cones to talk. The manager says Chip has served up more double dips than any employee in the history of the company! Chip should be at JJs this weekend. Nice young man. I plan on playing and actually hope to draw Chip! Maybe I'll be streamed! Whoo Hoo. Hoping to also meet the Big Truck and bend his ear a little.

SVB
Archer
Parica
Hennesse on Diamond.
Double J when he is in stroke
Frost

I think Nevel has lots of talent but he has no heart. He just has no composure and is willing to break everything he owns if something does not go his way. I know Henny has his issues as well but when I seen him take off West Monroe ,LA for three days in a row he got my respect.

Jessie Bowman is right under all these guys and sure there is some that I missed but that is my top five. Double J is on the list but right now has a medical issue that is effecting his play so I put a alternate there.

Double dip chip is not ready for SVB or Archer. I will tell you this though he is a killer and they cannot get to out of line on the bar table.

SVB has to be the best right. Then there's several other players real high up that play that type of pool.

Out of the all out gun slinging shot making super move your ball around guys like Chip's style. Larry Nevel is the best, period. Just saying out of that style of play I think Larry Nevel does it the best. Guy has a megaton of fire power on the bar table. Just ask someone.

i was hoping somebody would shout out Parica!

Nevel has no heart man. He is a head case. What I will say is that he can do shit with the cue ball that noone can. He can break him harder than most and can jump with the best. If he had any composure or any heart he would be hard to f*ck with. He has talent just not anything to go with it. He also plays shape!

Good question Mark. I like to watch Chip play.

I also like to watch Chip play. What I will say is that he just is not in that high powered category yet like the other guys in my list. Notice I said yet. I just have seen people like Jeremy and Henny run 13 in a row not playing rack your own. It is strong thing to see and know people like SVB and Archer can gin it on the bar table better then they can. Chip has no fear and will play a little wreckless on that table but playing guys like SVB or Archer you make a mistake and it might cost you 8 - 15 games. Chip is my hero and it hurts writing this about him. LOL

There was a guy named Norm Wines who played in the SBE twice and won it both times.... never heard of him again. Anybody know about this guy?

Storm-N Norman Wines use to come to the bar table tournaments in Shreveport, La. in the mid 90's. Tony Sulsar beat him in the tournament and Norman started woofing at Tony to gamble! After the tournament they played and Tony beat him out of three set for $200 a set. After the first set Norman started complaining that he was hustled and Tony was a road player and not a brick layer and anyone knowing Tony knows he has been laying brick since he was 15. I guess he thought this would get Tony out of his game but it did not happened, and quit after the third set. Don't get me wrong he plays strong, but if my memory serves me right I think Country Calvin spotted him at Calvin's place in Texarkana,TX. Norman and Big John were playing in Calvin's place once when we went through and stopped to see Calvin but we left and don't know how they finished up. I could not rate him up there with Jesse Bowman, Chip Compton, or the top bar players.

Shane is best at anything other than snooker. Fact is, no matter who he matches up with he will always have to give up some kind of weight, even if it is no jump cues, or we play on this certain type of table, what ever.

If you want action, to bet on Shane you always have to give up games.

That being said, I would say depending on the game, the favorite changes. 9 or 10 ball bar box is ANYONE'S game in a shorter race. race to 15-20 or less. In a long set, SVB hands down for the above reasons. Playing 8-ball, SVB all day long any race. Straight pool is the only thing i can think of that SVB might have trouble with in a long race, only because he doesn't play straight pool much, and you would still have to give weight probably.

SVB is RIGHT NOW the hottest stick out there.

just my $.02

There is much debate about this.

I will say that I think a barbox match on a Diamond is not the same as a barbox match on a Valley.

I also gotta say, I really like Larry Nevel as the top barbox player today. He very passionate and intense in his game too, I like that.

What do ya'll think?

Ray
Use to be..Dave Matlock.
Now SVB then Jessie B.
Actually there,s a bunch of good bar table players. It seems like everyone plays good on them.

I would have to say SVB, but I am going to throw a fairly unknown in there also...Tony Piazza. When he can keep his cool, which is most of the time, on a barbox he can run with anybody and everybody out there. Anybody who watched this years platte valley open seen him make a strong comeback against Glen Atwell and should have won but was distracted with his girlfriend playing right next to him and missed his first shot at hill hill. I have seen just decimate Gabe Owen in a barbox 8 ball tournament and made Gabe look like a B player and from what I have heard has taken many o'dollar from Gabe over the years. Top pro's know who he is also, not long ago Rodney Morris and Raj Hundal came to town to play a guy who ended up getting arrested the night before so they put an offer to give anybody around EXCEPT Tony the 6 out for whatever they wanted. I also have one more unknown to put in there as far as barbox 9 ball players go, Chris Mcdaniel. He hasn't played much lately but when he was playing you just didn't f*ck with him playing 9 ball on a barbox. Not even Tony likes that game, helped considerably from the time that Chris put a 10 pack on Tony for a few bills.

This is one of those topics that's just too hard to call simply because on any given day, most of the players mentioned so far could beat the rest.

Now, if someone twisted my arm behind my back, threatened to stick my face in a fresh pile of Bull Mastiff shit until I gave an answer, I'd probably shout out Shane Van Boening.

That said, I've seen Jesse Bowman on live streams running rack after rack, and in a VERY intimidating fashion!!!
