Mosconi Cup

I watched most of it, was pretty ugly for the USA I have to admit. Rodney lost 6-0, didnt look very good. Dechaine blew it in his doubles match with shane too. Shane even lost his singles match, not much to celebrate. It wouldnt be so bad if we played well and lost, that I could accept. Didnt happen. We really need a huge comeback tomorrow. I aint giving up, but things look pretty bad right now with the momentum in their favor.

I've read that from a lot of people here, and I wonder if I watched the same match as everyone else.

Shane scratched on the break at 4-0 USA. Shane left Dechaine on the rail in a high pressure situation, leading to the miss to bring Europe to 4-4...Everyone acts like Mike missed an easy 9 ball. That rail shot is tough for real people. Mike didn't have the luxury of playing behind a computer screen where all the shots are easy.

In rack 9, when Mike pocketed the 4 and ran into the 6, he was jacked up over a ball, which *can* impede stroke power...Guess who left him jacked up?

If anything, Shane's lack of cueball control cost them that match.

Mike's the favorite to make that shot. Yes it was a bit testy, but great players are supposed to bear down and make those. I've seen all of them miss that shot or a very similar one but you're still supposed to make it. Shane was leaving him bad though.

One Little Observation

One little thing that jumped out at me today while watching was how the European players have the edge in the fundamentals department. In races that are so short and so intense this is really the most important variable. In Rodney's match, he shot a couple of shots really quickly and missed them. I noticed Mike Deshaine was creeping up out of his shooting stance on several of his shots. Archer looked pretty good.

I didn't see any of the European players do this tonight (Souquet, Appleton, or Feijen). Those guys all locked rock solid.

It was over before it started. Europe is a much more steady team. Very solid. I feel bad for Shane having to play on that team.

I dont mean to blame it all on mike. Shane wasnt his best either. I dont think either of them would say they were happy with what they did today.

Shane is my favorite player. But right now he looks like one of the weakest players on the team. He had multiple chances to cash in and with the doubles match with Mike and his singles match. He just looks disinterested at times. I feel like maybe Shane is meant to play on his own. Maybe he just doesnt play well in a team game.

Shane played great in previous years, who knows, I will still take Shane over any of the American team members as a person and a player.

Best US player by far is Archer. US dogged it today, plain and simple.
Jay is pretty good in the booth.

I agree he is the best player....outside of the Mosconi Cup. His record is not that great there. I dont know what it is, just seems like hes not into it. Archer by far played the best today. I expect to see a heavy dose of him tomorrow. This is far from over. USA just needs to get their sh$t together and stop leaving wins on the hanging on the table.

Looks simple enough from over here, doesn't it?

Meanwhile, in real life, every player here has missed that shot, and will miss it again in the future...

It's amazing what two inches of bounce off the rail will do to improve consistency on that one.

Not trying to be nitpicky, I'm just saying that it wouldn't have been as difficult for Shane to bounce off the rail as it was for Mike to make the shot on the 9. I think we all understand that if Mike could have cued the ball better he would NEVER have missed; being on the rail brings it down to maybe 95%.

Shane was probably playing shape for himself; for him it's a hanger. Go USA

every player can learn a lot from how Archer approaches the game. he treats most every shot like it's his last. the guy is such a fierce competitor, and what a gentleman as well.
