I bought a 9 foot gc and im going to pick it up tomorrow. Im going to put it in the bed of a pickup truck. Can it be laid upside down? Whats the best way to put it in? Do the legs come off?

If its a true Gold Crown you will have to break it down. Way to heavy to lift up into the bed of a truck. I think you could actually damage the table by trying to move it in once piece.

I have help. I think we can handle the weight so i guess the question is whether it will damage the table.

Does anyone know for sure if it will damage it to move it in one piece?

If i do have to take it apart, what tools will i need?

If the slate seams are bondo'ed or something other than bees wax score them with a straight edge and razor knife. Then lift gently on the end.... It would suck to destroy the slate before you even have it loaded.

All you need is a basic set of sockets, extensions, screw drivers possibly. Its not that hard at all. It will be SOSO much easier to take the table apart.

DON'T DO THIS! Take the advice you're being given here! If you truly want a good table that will play well, take the time to take it apart - CAREFULLY! Note where all the bolts and screws go, and don't lose anything (put all the hardware in a separate bag). I would strongly recommend hiring a local table mechanic to set it up for you. You don't need him to tear it down, that you can do yourself, if you're careful. Also it is much easier (and safer) to move this way!

You asked, so we are telling you. You have the benefit of HUNDREDS of years of collective experience on this forum. Take advantage of it. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Yes, you can save the cloth. Remove it carefully as well!

If the cloth was stapled on which it probably was you can reuse the cloth. If it was used at all I would just have it replaced.

The previous owner of my table actually broke it down for me (takes less time than to set up). We carefully wrap each piece and placed it in his pickup and unloaded it into my home. I hired reputable table techs to set it up and had new cloth installed. No headaches and the table plays great! Good Luck!

slates

For a GC 1, DO NOT lift the end slates! These still have brass dowels (at least mine does). Slide them apart carefully. Be very careful until you know for sure.... Someone lifted one of mine at some point in the table's life, so I have some damage to deal with.
I recommend hiring a mechanic to take it apart. If you do it, you have to go slow to go fast.

p.s. If this is at All-star Billiards, I'm sure you will have plenty of "help" from the peanut gallery.

Good call kc... If its a gc iii it most likely won't have slate pins, if its a i or ii it probably does. If its a i or ii with bondo or hard putty score, score, score until you're thru it.

God i hope i dont screw this up.

Anyone have the time to poast instructions on tearing down a gc II and a gcIII?

How do i tell if it is a 2 or a 3?

Please help a brother out!!!

Jumped in the deep end eh? :) You will thank us in the end. The link that the member posted up has the directions. GCI the feet cannot be moved up or down and the skirts are fiberglass.
