A Cautionary Tale...

Sucks, but glad it worked out in the end.

chris G<-------that's what you get for selling your Tucker;)

Salt in the woud, Chris...salt in the wound. :o

Won't be selling it again. EVER.

Somebody copy and paste that to a MS Word Doc, and archive it!!

Amazing.

I feel for you, and I am glad it is being put right.

It makes me thing of all the times I thought of selling my JOSS because I needed money. I have had offers on it with the idea that I could buy it back when I was able. I just couldn't do it because I was so worried that something would happen to it.

That really sucks Mark. This place never ceases to amaze me.

Last week I offered a cue in trade for another cue + cash. The other party comes back and says I can't add cash to my cue for the cue you are offering, but asks... what about another cue on your site + X amount of cash for my cue... I say sure, that sounds fair. He comes back later and says I found out my cue is worth more than I thought so I am backing out of my offer. But he goes on to say he will trade his cue for the original cue I offered but is has to be a straight up trade... I really liked his cue so I agreed and said let's do it!

He sends a PM back stating, and I quote, "We have a deal". We make shipping arrangements last Friday to ship out on Monday and all is good. Sunday I get a PM and he says, I got a better cash offer on the cue and I'm backing out of our deal!!! It wasn't like he asked... hey, I really need cash and I got a full cash offer. I know we have a deal and will stick to my word if you really want the cue, but I would appreciate it if you would let me sell it for cash, it would really help me out.

No... it was just... I got a better offer I'm backing out. I can't tell you how many times I have agreed to a trade or trade + cash, only to get a full cash offer right after I made the deal. But I have never backed out of a deal without asking the other party and giving them final option. When is a deal a deal anymore... and when will people start backing up their sales???? It is getting out of hand.

Props to you Murray for helping out a great AZ'er. That's the way it is supposed to happen.

I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago on Craigslist. I was buying a Mike Erwin cue and agreed to the asking price+ Shipping. I just asked that it be shipped UPS or FedEx, instead of USPS which always screws up my deliveries. So the guy says he will get a shipping price from UPS, but comes back a couple of days later and says he talked to Erwin and the cue is worth more than he thought and demands an extra hundred dollars more than his original asking price. NOT. I didn't place the ad, you did. If you make an agreement, stick to it. Research the value of what you're selling before you list it. I don't know if it was worth a hundred more or not, but I'm not even going to consider doing business with you after you renege on a deal like that. Then he offered to sell me a more expensive cue, HA!

Reminds me of my Triumph chopper.

When I got married and bought a house I sold it cheap, actually to a "friend".

He said to let him know if I ever wanted to buy it back.

One summer as a present my wife bought it back. The deposit he collected from my wife was substantially more than he had paid me in total for the bike, so she still owed him.....a lot.

He had done all this Jesse James crap to it and in the process destroyed a lot of classic parts. Drilled through the frame, stripped out a spark plug hole, mounted a tank so big the bike could not steer. Lost my custom snakeskin seat and replaced it with a "tractor seat". Mounted the rear wheel crooked so he could put a bigger tire on it. Powder coated the fork tubes (you can't do that on classic Triumph forks, I won't go into the technical aspects of why). The forks didn't even work. He was guided by a "Harley expert" (first bad sign). There are only two people in the country that I trust with Triumphs besides myself.....and that "Harley expert" ain't one of them.

To say the least it was a wreck and didn't even run anymore. He put a lot of money into powder coat and chrome and stuff and literally not one bit of the work he had done was serviceable nor even salvageable.

I kept the bike and told my wife not to contact him or pay the balance he was asking for. To this day I would dare him to try to collect or even contact me or say one word about that bike.

Before I sold it that bike won me first place, best in show, against more than 200 Harleys. I didn't enter it, I don't enter shows, I rode it to a show and a friend entered it without me knowing. He did it again a month later and the bike took third at another show. The bike turned low elevens and high tens in the quarter on grudge night. I used to love embarrassing crotch rocket riders on that thing. With proper frame geometry and riding position it would have eaten a Hayabusa. Now it is still a mess and I have had it back since 2007. I have yet to get the money and parts together to put it right and won't do anything with it until I do. It's my blood sweat and tears that built the thing in the fist place. I put my heart into it. I have had a lot of bikes....most built by me. That one will never again be sold, I don't care how poor I get or what needs paid.

Some things are simply worth more than their parts....like that cue.....like my Triumph.....like my JOSS......and some people just don't deserve to own such things, regardless of the ability to purchase them.

Way to pork a guy who is overseas, fighting for YOUR freedom.

You should be proud!

Getting off track here, but I'm so glad president obuma apologized to the same people who are murdering our young men over there. Because a book is apparently more important to him than the lives of those defending our country. I have been pissed all day about this!:angry::angry:

Buying Cues

I recently drove almost 300 miles and about 6 hours round trip to buy a cue from Jamie ( Worminator ). Jamie gave me a good deal and I like the cue. After reading all the horror stories, I doubt if I ever buy another cue that I can't hold in my hand before I hand over the cash. I've personally never had a bad experience, but I would rather be extra careful than extra sorry.

Jamie is a great man and as honest as they as come.

Just becuase there are a few a$$holes in the world, don't let that deter you. Just be smart and deal with people you trust and things will be fine.

Agreed. Not everyone out in AZB is a liar and a jack-tard. Just a few.

Jamie happens to be one of the people on here I would buy from, sight unseen. His word is gold, pure and simple. When he sells a cue, you can bank on the fact that it's EXACTLY what he says it is.

I have a list of folks who fall into the same boat. Men of their word. Men of honor. I'm lucky to have either met them, or dealt with them.

Wish everyone was like that....

Sorry to hear about all this Mark. You have always been a great guy to me and I consider you a friend. (I would hate to be your enemy ;) haha.)
As for myself, still being a bit of a noob to pool and gremlins, I've learned a valuable lesson.
Don't let something go unless you really absolutely have to.
That's my personal lesson from this... Sorry it had to come at your expense.

I think you handled everything well (IMHO) what little that's worth.
Stay safe SIR. Gotta let Timmy beat up on ya some more when you get back.
Heck I might even be able to beat ya then.....(not likely) :p

I would not hesitate to buy another cue from Jamie. Sometimes its the shipper. I bought 2 new cues from Keith Josey, and when they arrived the box had been cut. Luckily the cues were still inside and not damaged. They had done a great job of packing them in bubble wrap and newspaper.

Anybody who even remotely attempts to put a blemish on 8-ball Rat's integrity is a complete moron. I don't know him terribly well, but what I do know is his core values are as solid as they come. Integrity, Service, and Excellence are literally hard-coded into his brain lol.

He's also fond of top english...

Massive....MASSIVE amounts of top english.

Thank you, Heiro. Very nice of you to say.

Your check is in the mail! ;)

Be good, bro.

Mark is alright. Don't go blowing his head up too much.

I didn't say he was smart or good looking, just that he's honest and tries really hard ;) (I'll ship the check back, sorry lol)

Rep headed your way. That comment had no place in this thread.

Just a quick update for Mark. The cue is back to its former self. Just have to finish up the custom weight bolt and it will be on the way. Sorry for the bad pix. It is dark and raining outside.
