Please Critique!! *video*

Yes your stroke looks good it's going back and forth instead of the up and downward motion. Just keep up what your doing and remember your stroke if like your finger print

Nice stroke.

When practicing, just dont hit balls around. Always practice with a purpose.

I assume you play 8 ball. Try this, shoot all of the solids in then shoot all the stripes (or visa versa) in then make the 8 ball.

Lazy practice makes for lazy play.

Have fun

John

On the 8ball break on your final back stroke start moving your body forward. What also helps is in your initial stance stand closer to the table to where it feels slightly uncomfortable. Also your grip on the stick should be farther forward.

What all this does is the grip utilizes your triceps for more power. The closer stance allows you to follow through more giving you more stick speed as your body moves forward on the stroke...all Colin Colenso

Yeah moving my feet forward will def help with get more body movement behind my break, thanks for the tip, gonna work on it.

randallt6...Just FYI, you don't need body movement on the break. The break is about speed and timing, not about power or brute force.

You're guessing with your position. Seems like you make balls well, but the CB is rolling somewhere random.

The best advice I can give is pick a spot before you shoot the ball and try to hit that spot.

randallt6...You drop your elbow on every shot (unnecessary, and potential for error in accurately striking the CB). What this means is that your shoulder is involved, and driving the stroke...as opposed to letting the cue do the work (pendulum swing). Both ways work...one is, for most people, more accurate and repeatable. You don't pause at the CB on your last warmup...that's a vital part of the whole process, and where our 'subconscious' decides if you're "ready" or not.

Heres me hitting some balls, please critique my stroke, stance etc...

Hittin Balls

heres my break, one thing I know already is I'm not hitting the head ball head on.

8 ball break

thanks for your thoughts!

To the op;

Pay close attn to what Randy G and Scott Lee have to say. They are two of the top instructors in the land.

What my non-expert eye picked up is that you either have no pre-shot routine or what you do have is very inconsistent. Also, as Scott mentioned, the final pause that should be there just before you shoot, is missing.

Finally, there appears to be a rather large distance between the tip of your cue and the cue ball in all of your practice strokes. Reducing that distance, I believe, would be very beneficial.

And I agree; practice with purpose.

Best,
Brian kc

Brian...Just a note about the warmups...you only need to get your tip really close on the LAST warmup (the one you pause on). You can do it on all of them, but the last one is the crucial one. :D

im not going to say anything about your stroke or fundamentals because im no instructor. I will say i think your racking sucked on the first break and looked good on the second break. You can be a great breaker but if you cant give yourself a good rack your advantage is gone.

Your hand is tucked in from your elbow (elbow tipped out). Add your elbow dropping and you have your hand & elbow moving on two different planes. You'll need perfect timing to get your elbow & hand working together, which is TOUGH when varying between firm & soft shots. This leads to inconsistency & erratic play...good one day, bad the next.

I've been working on the opposite problem (my elbow tends to tuck behind me a bit), so I know of what I speak. LOL

thanks for your thoughts!

This creates issues all by itself. But they can be overcome real quick with a little help.

This effects your stroke, stance and your aiming ability.

Colin explains it very well on his powerbreak video in that the shorter the muscle the more power. He points out specifically the tricep as being in a short position. I have tried to concepualize this and I believe he is saying with your arm at impact position is at the short muscle position for both tricep and bicep combined maybe..all I know is that it works!

You are lifting up on your final stroke.
You may be tightening your grip on the follow through as you are not striking the CB where you are addressing it, and your wrist is turning.
Can you hit consistent draw and follow shots? set up a routine and video it, better than just banging balls without direction, after all your goal is to pocket balls and play position.
All in my humble opinion of course.
