I have been looking at buying a McDermott cue for the most part as soon as I sell my Meucci, but after reading more about custom cues, that may be an idea for me.

Are there any good custom cues in the 2-400 range? I'm looking for something simple really, but unsure whos custom I should look at.

Looking for something that shoots somewhat stiff but not an absolute brick. Also something with a wood on wood, ivory, etc joint

PM me about your Meucci as soon as your ready to sell it please!

For 2-400 you can buy a nice plain jane new from many builders or find a very nice used one in the for sale section at that price.

Good luck

Since you ask on here I would buy on here. I think many make a conversion or Merry widow for what you are offering.

Used custom cues can keep value or even go up in value which is not always the case with a production cue.

thanks for the quick replies guys.
id love buying one from here. i have seen some good deals, but i have not had a chance to shoot with any customs before.
would there be any recommendations as far as what builder to look for??
im sure alot is personal preference, but being new to customs, im not too sure what or whom i should look for right off.

I would

contact Bob Frey, he had 10 SP for sale, they looked great. He sold about 6 right away. He was charging $400 for them.

Builder

I love chilton cues, built very well and hit pretty stiff and very affordable why buy a cue made for someone else go new if you got the change and time . I cant really compare the hit but he has different shafts solid maple, flat lam and pie

if you prefer a little softer hit try out joel davidas. have tried 2 and played nice, but too soft for my taste. lot of cue for your money.

carolina custom builts some basic cues in around that price range (sneakies), no bad cues at all.

and of course the for sale section here

What tips did they have on them? I hated the soft hit with the tips they come with - they hit much better when you change to a more robust tip.

If you decide to stick with production cues, you may find a lower end Mezz, or a Pechauer to your liking....If you want custom, Joe Baker, BHQ, Jim Baxter....etc, etc. Good luck with your search.
All the best.

I'd be hard pressed to imagine Mordt in that price range....I have heard some good things about Jim Pierce's cues, as well....

Check out Mike Gulyassy...he's selling everything at 20% discount, not sure what he still has in your range or what's up with ordering a custom...the MGLD with an SPTX shaft might suit you very well, depending on what the total runs...he's had a few models in the $400-$500 range. VERY special cues/shafts...he's a wizard, plain and simple. I'm partial to Carolina Customs lately, but you really need to try one out first and know what you want...they can do almost anything for the bottom dollar, a LOT of cue. If you know length/weight/balance/construction/joint/taper you prefer, go there, they can pull anything off. But I'd be willing to bet a Gulyassy will please you sight unseen.

were the original tips. the guy told me they d play better with another tip, but they stay on the "softer" side of custom cues. but still a great cue for the money, very good fitting, nice designs.

good advise

hard press to buy any new production cue when the best value is used custom or production.

good advise tom
