Here are pics from the latest Balabushka tributes coming out of the Schon shop. These tributes were set up by Dean C. (deanoc).

Here are some quick observations:

I like the blue hue in the MOP inlays.

The white diamonds in the butt are ivory. Separator between diamonds and MOP inlay looks to be maple (?).

I originally thought I wanted a leather wrap, but I have linen on all my main players. Dean was confident that I'd love the linen and he was right. Great execution on the wrap and it feels very good. Dean told me that the linen used was "special" from the era of Gus S.

Most Bushka type tributes or "inspirations" have one "Bushka" style ring (usually at the "C" position). These cues from Evan have 3 rings at C, D and E. To top it off - the rings have a nice, intricate touch with a "silver" window surrounding each black and white window.

I like the fact that the ring work at A and B are standard Schon silver ring. This makes it easier to get extra Schon shafts or after market shafts. Check out the pictures to see the rest...

Great job by Schon. Fantastic to deal with Dean on this. Dean is one of the best I've come across on AZ. (Thanks Dean - I love my 1st Schon!!!)

Well...it's a Schon, so most people knew how these cues would play...

But...I can speak for myself with regards to being uncertain that Evan was going to be able to pull off the aesthetics of this tribute cue...

All I can say now is that I regret not pulling the trigger and getting into this particular cue on the ground floor!

Beautiful job on these cues! They are drop-dead gorgeous!!!
 
I am glad to see someone took pictures

The linen used on these is the Blue Mountain Irish Linen,used by Gus Szamboti and others when it was still being made

I thought the abalone diamonds had a green hue,and the wrap,green veneer and diamonds brought out the best in each other

I am really happy with the special attention that Schon has given to the project,

When the greatest collector of Balabushkas,see Forbes magazine,drove to Dallas from Houston,to pick his Schon tribute,
I was thinking about sharp points but whenhe handled the cue admiringly,running his hands over the points area,he said one word...perfect

I don't know how schon can make such wonderful cues for such little money

As many of you know,many of the pro champions get their playing cues from Dennis

and guess which cue has won the most,which cue practically every pro player has used at one time or another?

if 5 of you guys call this week

I am 90% sure that Bob Runde will do a one time historic offering

There is a health issue that may prevent this,but call if you are interested in something unique

Cue Play

The cue plays very well. I put it through about 4 hours of play last night. I'm very used to SS jointed cues (I've played with my Huebler for 17 years).

Dean - the MOP inlays do have a lot of green and blue in them. The colors change with different angles. The inlay work compliments the cue very well. It is a very pretty Schon!
 
These tribute cues look great except for the rounded points.
Why can you get a $129 Chinese made cue with sharp points and you can't get a $1000 Schon with sharp points?
 
As a few have mentioned before, the cue looks
great. But I too, would have preferred the cue to have sharp points.
It gives the cue a more hand-made look to me. The rounded points
scream "machine made" and that is not to my liking. But hey, that's
just one man's opinion...otherwise, an awesome looking cue. Congrats!
 
its funny to hear how some people like or don't like schon points

The largest Balabushka collector in the world loved the schon

No one minds these points when they buy a Gina cue or Joss west

Progress in the manufacturing process brings change,improvement
sometimes meets resistance

Bob Runde ,who made the points when schon had sharp points
told me that you can't tell the difference in the hit

I think the reason so many people love these schons is the way they play,and the quality of the cue itself

One person was surprised the rings did not match up,he was surprised
Perhaps he doesn't remember that George Balabushka did them that way

Another cue maker of some reputation,Gus Szamboti,did not concern himself with that either,especially in the early days

I personally love schon,that is why we did the project with them,and why we will be doing 1 more with Ivory joints

I will kindly disagree with that. Of the few examples Bushka made with rings that would line up in the way these do, all I have seen are like the one below.

Nicely executed design.


I just don't understand why a bunch of the buyers are selling so quickly. They are flooding the for sale section.


In my opinion, I'd keep it to enjoy.
