+1 to take what you make

For a second there I thought these were pros playing not BCA open after the break patch collectors...oh wait they are. Make it harder since they are elite. Control the cue ball and you will have a shot after the break.

Take your pick, either play like BCAPL patch collectors or like APA patch collectors. At least the WPA 8 Ball World Championship plays the same way as BCAPL patch collectors.

since 8 ball is an EASIER GAME, why not play take what you make. makes it more difficult. on a big table, 8 ball is too easy at a pro level, which is why no one plays it. Make it as difficult as possible, they are pros.

best,

Justin

I know it's all a personal preference which is split on here...there are times where I like to see some packs put on, but with this match up I would love to see some of the tougher outs these guys can do when they are forced to take what they make...just my preference. Should be good to watch either way.

I agree. Perhaps we should be debating whether a race to 15 is long enough. I'd like to see it go to 21 like the 10 Ball.:)

Trust me

It will be super hard to run a rack. They are playing on a diamond with tiny pockets and worn cloth, money on line, cameras rolling.
Some people are saying open after break will be easy ,well not on this table.
Thats coming from Johns mouth

Professional 8-ball jihadist.

So......

From that moniker I can deduce that you are one of the following:
  • in a holy war against 8 ball
  • you use 8 ball to fight the infidels
  • you make money off of infidels who play 8 ball
  • you watch Weeds on Showtime

Are you going to Red Deer this weekend to play in the scotch doubles tourny at the Corner Pocket?

I would have liked to see a wee bit longer race. Even a race to 19 would be better then a race to 15. A race to 15 can be over in a couple hours with a score of 15-10, it is a pretty quick game with only 8 shots needing to be made from the break at the most and usually the shooting is quick when a player is on a pattern.

Both John and Corey play at nice quick pace, they can blast a race to 15 out pretty quick. I am guessing game for game the 8-ball will have the same average game length as the 10-ball and Friday is under 3 hours of actual play time not including breaks.

It is new, we are finally getting 8-ball on TAR. The rules are set and proper, I am stoked again. Once this match is in the books JCIN will know the amount of time the match took and he can work out the length of the match that should be played next time from there. I hope the 8-ball is a HUGE hit for TAR and we get to see more of it.

Scotch? Is that mixed doubles man/woman? Did not even hear about it. I am more into single player tournies, any major ones of those comming up soon?

As for the 8-ball jihad, I am fighting for world domination of 8-ball and death to the infidel rotation games that have polluted the lands. Praise be to 8-ball. Is that about right JCIN?

Yeah, it may be over fairly quickly. Part of the reason I'd like a longer race is it starts at 4P my time (PDT) and I would like to have a couple of friends over to watch it and play some. But by the time they get off work and could make it to my house, it might be in the books already.

Maybe a later start would help my problem. It is a "school day" on Friday so maybe a later start would help sales as people on the west coast would have time to get home and watch more of it. Still makes it only 9P Eastern, not terribly late for a Friday night.

But being the first TAR rodeo with 8 Ball I'm just glad it's happening.

they always replay the match.

IF you want to see some strategy and a more difficult run outs, let them play last pocket 8 ball.

I can see a lot of ppl on here don't play for certain balls on the break to go, just smack them and take whatever is more promising lol. That's just not how the top tier plays, sorry. Ask the 5 best players you know how they would wanna play. I bet if they are stealing theyd wanna play open after the break and if its tough they would want to play take what u make. Sorry if you lose your cue ball and get stuck on a rail and cant take a duck to start ur run, next time youll keep ur cue ball middle of the table.

Take what you make only seems right. I also dont understand how u can be penalized when you have the first shot? IF you arent creative enough to get out of tough spots, u should get beat at that level.

Bingo! We've got a bingo on page 3!

Really?

You cannot see how you could break, make a stripe, jaw a couple solids, have no open shot that can be pocketed on the stripes, and in effect be screwed right off what was a decent break based on the luck of how the balls came out?

In 8-ball you are certainly never assured of having a shot after the break on either stripes or solids, and after the break if the balls have already been assigned due to this rule you can in effect break yourself into a brutal safety right off the hop and what did you do wrong, broke well and got unlucky on how the balls came to lie?

Just like in 10ball you can break perfect and not get a good chance at a safety or a shot. It evens out over time. I've lost 10 games in a row with some crazy momentum swings like that.

Blame the fans. More of us want to pay to watch him play it this way.

You have the right table for this IMO, I don't think you need that extra rule to stop endless runouts. As you said this thing has not even been reclothed from the Busta/Archer match, this thing should be playing tight and a little slow and it is going to be a tough 8-ball test still regardless of open after the break.

If Corey and John dominate the game on that table and run out everything I am going to be not only shocked but also poorer as I am putting up a prop bet on the Action Room that less then 50% of the games won in the 8-ball will be B&R's.

The rule isn't going to stop endless runouts, it's going to show who moves better in tricky spots and all around.
