Most Over Priced Cue

people that have never had a south west sure seem to know a lot

what almost everyone who owns a southwest has found
the best consistency of any cue
they vary from cue to cue very little

the workmanship is the best, quality control is fantastic

its no accident that the cues are so sought after

funny thing
when you look for feedback on the posters who enjoy knocking,
you find a lot of 0 and 1s

i suspect they never owned any of the cues of which they speak so confidently
There feedback may be low but it doesn't discredit
their opinion on Southwest cues. Some people just don't participate
as much as others,on a personal or business level but could still have
knowledge about the product.I will agree with you that they are sought
after cues.I'm not certain if its about there playability or being a collectable.

I have personally owned 2 and dumped both of em. True I dont post or trade much here...i'd rather be playing pool ...i'll leave it to others to read about it.

I have owned a franklin and 2 post franklins, and dumped them all.

They are the most overpriced "production" cue going, as that is
exactly what they are...production cues...like a production chevrolet
with different options.

Tad cues give SW the 7 ball, and Lambros gives SW the 6.

A lot of folks like em...just not for me....just like anything though...if it suits u, so be it

Gus

Based strictly on playability, I'd have to say the Last Gus Szamboti. The way I understand it, it brought a quarter of a million dollars and wasn't even finished so how good could it play?

What was the buyer thinking? A K-Mart $20 cue would play better.

Thanks

Kevin

PS Anybody else think these threads are lame?

southwest....

theres a guy in the poolroom i play in that always starts by saying " let me tell you a story"

so let me tell you a story. my buddy had a pool room in vegas in the 80's. nice place. and would move alot of southwest cues. partly because they were both in vegas and he was good friends with jerry. So, my friend decided to have jerry build him a cue. ebony on ebony with blue veneers. jerry said no problem, and 4 months later boom, there was his cue. Now before jerry handed him the cue, he told my buddy that if he didnt like the hit he would make him another one. He said this cause he knew that ebony well just doesnt play right sometimes. So, fred my buddy, takes the cue and hit some balls. He maybe had it a month didnt like it. So he did what jerry told him to do, he called and said he didnt like it. And jerry made him another one, 5 months later. Now from what he tells me this one played jam up. Best hittin stick he had. 2 weeks later jerry passes. now whether or not they are over priced, thats a matter of opinion.

I had a Tasc and to me it played terrible. The good thing was I bought it at a reasonable price so I didnt get hurt on it. Ironically in this case I did a trade/cash deal for a South West. Later on I sold the South West for more than I had in it.

How people can say that a cue that you can sell on the secondary market for what you pay for it is overpriced is beyond me. Just because some people don't like certain cues doesn't mean the entire market is wrong.

The cue market is in the toilet right now. Look around and see what is selling for the same price range or more as five years ago consistently and you will see what is really what. I see guys who own $20K in cues that they couldn't get get half of that out of. Those are the cues that are overpriced IMO.

i bet i could get 20 out of my cue:wink:

And can't fetch $350 used....:)

Any cue that has wholesale pricing on it and you dont pay that price is giving away money when it comes to resale. This seems obvious of course but to this day I cringe when I hear someone say "I want to sell a almost new $1500 Schon/Predator/Whatever cue. I'll take $1300."

I bet you would.

Those sellers should be tarred and feathered, but we're not even allowed to gently remind them they're crooks. I see some that are asking for more than retail. It's extraordinary.

Take the sticker off - quarter of its value has gone.
You chalk it - third of its value gone.
Play with it - half its value gone.
Customise/abuse it - two thirds of its value gone.

Some people seem to think these things ADD value!

What's the best ...?

What is your deal with all the 'what's the best'/ 'what's the worst' questions?

One with a little common sense would understand that there is no 'best', once there are choices established.

What's the best car? What's the best food? What's the best shoe...?

WTF?! There is no prize for starting the most threads.

Blucollar,
I was astounded when one of the guys here who likes to collect good cues said he paid 30K for his most expensive Southwest cue! You're absolutely right about the Asian market's influence on this commodity. I'm also happy to hear they are not the one and only ultimate cue as there are many good custom cue makers. Thanks for your astute and valued input.

over priced

Once watched a guy over a bet break and run 3 racks of 9 ball, 2-1/4" balls and a snooker table with a broom with the end whittled down, so my guess would be anything over a $3.95 Corn Huskers Broom from Wal-Mart

You gotta love them Dos Boobies

While there are some people who are so good they can run racks with virtually anything, the rest of us mere mortals tend to have preferences about what kind of cue and shaft and tip hits and feels best to us, and which gives us a comfort level that allows us to have some confidence in what we're shooting with.

Personally, I think a cue is overpriced if I buy it, shoot with it, dislike it, and regret having spent the money on it -- no matter what it cost. However, if I invest in a cue, and shoot with it, and love it, then it was worth whatever I paid for it.

As some of you know, I just bought a new cue the other day. I'm actually waiting for it to arrive now, and look forward to playing with it for the first time tonight. It was within my budget, but as to the value from a playability standpoint, I'll find out tonight.
