$50,000.00 Match

Nice thread Joey.
I read everyone's posts. Nice debate but useless.
I am 99% sure Efren will not take this format in consideration. He knows his limits better than anyone else at the table. He won't take a race to 15 ever, IMO. Not at this time.
On the other side Scott's a gentleman as he always was. He loves 1p more than anyone and he knows that this game is based on mutual respect.
IMO, a ScottF vs. EfrenR 1p match is possible and will be a hell of a game for spectators. I'll take Scott.
Sorry for those who still believe that Shane is capable to defeat Efren in this game, I don't. Not because he's not a good shooter but because he misses a lot when it comes to pressure. 50.000$ that's not pressure, it's like a truck hitting a beetle.

Chris

I have to agree here. I am a big fan of SVB and what he stands for, but I think he is outmatched playing Efren one pocket. Scott however I think has the much better game and in a long haul could apply plenty of pressure.
i doubt his ever happening anyway!

Silly for Efren of course, he is near my age. However not so silly for Shane or Scott, they have the young legs.
In the past years, 18-24 hours of play was pretty common.

That's what i said. My comment was based on the comment i quoted

I have played for 34 hours before. We stopped to eat twice for about 30 mins each time. I couldn't think straight when we were done, but I won

Just wanted to remind everyone that Shane and Effren already played a $50,000 set. Not one hole but seems to me $50K is $50K and if if Shane supposedly gets nervous for the cash the game wouldnt matter.

The truck surely did hit the beetle just not the way you think.

If anyone questions Shane's heart, or question how Shane plays for big money, they are sorely mistaken.

SVB has one of the biggest hearts, if not the biggest, than anyone in the world. I have heard and seen SVB plays for big $$$$$$. IMO, he plays even better when the stake is higher.

Well maybe the $50K one pocket match should be between Shane Van Boening and Efren Reyes.

When did they play for $ 50,000 I know they played a race to 23 (i think that was the number) in 2009 Derby City but im not sure the bet. I know Efren had been playing tournament matches since 10am all the way up till 11 pm. Efren didnt want to play Shane that night because Efren was worn out, but he was talked into it. Efren was yawning and rubbing his eyes the whole match. Efren missed makeable 6 balls 3 games in a row and Shane won by 2 games. Comparing 9 ball and 10 ball to one pocket is apple and oranges. In 9 and 10 ball the game is pretty straight forward. All the champions runout great and play safes. In one pocket there are a variety of shot selections at almost every turn at the table. I just think playing one pocket for big money Efren would hit Shane with shots and situations that Shane hasnt seen in his young one pocket career. The bottom line is what do you think are the chances of this type of epic match happening?

Shane's been around the country and around the world playing pool since he was a teenager. His career ain't young at all. He might not have been known as a one pocket player until the past couple years but that doesn't mean he didn't know how to play it and hasn't seen plenty of it at the highest level.

Whatever Efren does Shane can learn quickly. At this point Shane could study hundreds of hours of Efren playing one pocket and learn just about every move Efren knows if he wanted to do that. If pool players are smart they would study their opponents just like NFL teams do with intense video reviews.

I have to revise my earlier opinion and say that Shane and Scott Frost are likely candiates to play such a one pocket match with Efren.

100% correct!

I learned the same way. Bought 25 or so Accu-Stat DVD's of nothing but Shannon, Cliff, Alex, Efren, Scott, Nick, etc. I bet i watched them all 2 or 3 times and the best ones even more. You have to be careful watching Efren though, he hits some shots that aren't possible without backhand english and other shots that are just way too high on the difficulty scale to pull off in a match. Listening to the announcers analyze top players and player review tapes are also very helpful if you want to learn the game

My opinion Shane, will get lucky and run couple of racks, but with long race, Efren will squeeze the hell of of him where he will shoot in the air, no match to Efren's one pocket skill, strategy, knowing the odds, and very important fact, Efren have more experience gambling with someone else's money, a skill that requires lots of experience

I promised to ask Scott Frost about playing Efren Reyes some even up one pocket for big money and a long race and he said that he has the finances to play such a match and is able to win AND WOULD PLAY, EVEN UP.

I guess that pretty much puts a damper on those who think that Efren is a guaranteed winner.

Scott asked me to also say something else in this thread which I told him about. He asked me to say that he doesn't want to ask Efren to play such a match because he has such deep respect for Efren. Scott said that Efren was his idol.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't play him, just that Scott wouldn't ask Efren, out of respect for him.

That sure puts a different slant on things doesn't it?

Well, it raises my respect level for Scott. Good for him.

Many players have the guts, none of them have the backing or the money. Why is a backer going to put anyone in the box against a player as experienced as Efren for that type of money? At best it's a 50/50 proposition as no one on the planet has to like it against Efren. Yes he is getting older but unlike most other players he stays action-fit by playing constantly. And if he is not gambling on pool then he is playing cards, playing chess or otherwise keeping his mind in action.

Efren will be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.

It appears that Scott Frost has the financial wherewithal to do this match and I would guess if Shane chose to, he too, could have the financial wherewithal to do this match.

So our potential match list against Efren for a once and for all KING OF ONE POCKET MATCH goes something like this:
Earl Strickland
Scott Frost
Shane Van Boening
Jeremy Jones
Gabe Owen
Shannon Daulton

(I've talked to Scott and while he wouldn't ask Efren himself, HE WOULD PLAY & HAS THE FINANCIAL WHEREWITHAL TO FINANCE THE MATCH).

I haven't talked to Efren or any of the other players. If you speak or write to either of these players, please let us know if they are interested in playing Efren for a $50K set and if they have the financial backing to put up $25K for a match of this type.

So far Scott is the only player to say he has the guts and the money to play such a match.

I think it will be most watched match if you put Earl Strickland on top of the list, i do not enjoy watching Scott going for low % shots and miss, he was horrible in his last match he played in Tunica. I think Shannon is the strongest in the list in one pocket he got some patience, but the unfortunate truth is Efren / Shannon is not fit for TV stream, each match will take at least 1 hr to finish, if not more.

Sorry, my bad. You're right, Earl is up there. I don't know if he has the financial wherewithal to attempt a match of this magnitude or not.
I'll add him to the list. I just forgot to put him there.
Thanks,

Thanks for the add. If Earl plays Efren, i will buy vip seat, the stream and dvd, no matter who wins!!Thanks for adding the Perl.

No way Earl has the patience to deal with the top One pocket players in a long race. Alex on the other hand should be on your list if you are making one

Do you mean Alex Pegelian, he is Filipino Canadian, and i think the match between Americans and Efren. Besides Alex is too slow he will kill the viewers and stream, he is a good match though.

I have played many matches over 30 hours and it gets just weird sometimes.
i doubt Efren would ever agree to a race to 15 and play until done. That would be suicidal. If so, i think a fes would be favored over him.

You mean he has the guts to play with someone else's money, right? What if the players had to use their own money? (Just theoretical here; how could we tell?) How big of a match could we get using players' money; who could play?

PS: I neglected to read this whole thread; sorry if this was discussed earlier.
