What do you do in the "offseason" (usually summer) to keep your game in shape for fall leagues an or tournaments?

There is an offseason to pool????????? Learn something new every day !! lol ! there is no offseason where i live in Texas. One league ends we have one week and another begins and there must be 8 + leagues... there isn't even an off night let alone an off season..

We have a summer league which I play in, but there isn't much pool period in the summer where I live. Just curious what those that don't or can't play regularly in the summer do to keep in stroke.

Take the Summer off. OK, well I play APA on Monday nights. Oops, forgot I play APA on Tuesday night as well. My calendar says I also play BCAPL on Wednesday night. Guess I don't take the Summer off . Well I don't play in our BCAPL mixed scotch doubles league on Friday night. See, I do take a vacation from pool!

I know in some areas (like MinneSNOWta) a lot of people take the summer off to enjoy the 2 weeks of the year when there is nice weather and I can understand that.

However, living in Texas, I would rather play pool in the air conditioning than venturing outside in the 100+ degree weather during the summer.

Therefore, I pretty much just play year round.

I don't think anything substitutes for playing pool except playing pool... and I bet the pool halls could use the business during the slow season. Personally my pool playing hasn't slowed down a bit, it's easier to work up the urge to go out during a pleasant summer evening than a miserable winter night.

my sentiments exactly... its much cooler in the pool hall or bar ! :)

what about starting your own inhouse league. play singles if you have to or doubles or play pool300..

Even when they're off , I stay on..

I typically practice on my home table,, 9-ball, 10-ball, 14.1 to break up the monotony ..

Its the same thing around my area come summer, not to many tourneys, and if there is leagues ,there's barely any people that participate in them..

No matter what ,you gotta stay honed in..

I think this is a very personal thing. Some players can take 6 months or more off, losing perhaps a full letter of speed (from high A to high B, for instance), and then get most of it back in just a couple of weeks of playing 10 hours a week. Others may need to play 20 hours a week just to maintain the status quo. I typically take 7 or 8 months off each year (by "off" I mean I might play once or twice a month just for the social interaction, but no practice), and then spend a month in the late fall getting back in stroke. You may just need to experiment to see how quickly you lose your feel and then how quickly you can get it back.

I don't like much the beach and the sea ( and I live in Sicily where the sea is really nice). There are only two good things about summer: women are less dressed and holiday..

After my league is done in the spring I take a 2 week vacation with my wife, to mexico usually. Then when I get back I start up a practice regimen to keep my sharp. I use that time to try to improve on whatever I felt was my weak spot from last seasons league games.

Then 2 weeks before league starts again I completely stay away from pool, no practice, no games. It helps me keep my mind right and gets me ready for the double session that will last until next spring.

Practice, play in other tournaments, play against other players (friends, gambling). You can't really have an offseason in pool as it's an indoor game :)

I don't know any tournaments that are seasonal, they are just weekly or monthly or whatever year round.
