Who's keeping stats? I've watched four games. Three break and runs. One blown out (btw, Dennis violating one of the simple principles of run out 8-ball).

And a great showcase of the strategic safety game that is the fantasy of 8-ball at the top level. Not a single thought of a safety in that's set ( in the last 6 or 7 games when I tuned in)

I guess you can look at this 2 ways. This 500 a set 8-ball was a teaser for the Friday PPV... or after not gambling with each other for 3 years they have the bad timing to match up for free to the world just 2 days from the PPV they are getting paid to do. Maybe i'm missing something here? Johnnyt

Don't over think it. The PPV is an all around battle. This was some sparring. If someone is too tight to buy the PPV then they are too tight regardless of whether the two players played a little now or not.

Yes you're probably right. I was over thinking it. And yes of course i'll buy this ppv...i've bought all but one of them. I was in the hospital for that one ane my wife wouldn't bring me my laptop. Johnnyt

Shame on her. She should be flogged!? LOL! When all fails, listen to the doctors instructions. LOL!

It's good to hear someone else say this. People look at me cross-eyed when I assert that there is practically zero defense in high level 8-ball, and it is far more of a runout-or-die game than 9-ball is. They hold 8-ball up as the paragon of defensive strategy when the reality is that only offensive strategy is employed the vast majority of the time - even at the high amateur level.

I saw a BUNCH of high amateurs last nite, and most of them COULDN'T get out :o

I just turned the stream on as little jelly for the people who liked our new Facebook page. If watching a single camera stream with half the lights off, no commentary and no scoreboard makes a guy feel like he doesnt need to buy the ppv because he's already seen the show for free....well that guy wasn't buying anyway.

But maybe one or two people saw how sick it is to see 8 ball played like that on a tough table and will want to watch a better production of it this weekend.

Like anything else...damned if you do, damned if you don't.

They are scheduled to play tomorrow at 2PM Vegas time. I havent made up my mind about streaming it it or not. I'm leaning towards no at this point. Might turn it on an hour before the podcast or something if they are still going.

Eight Ball plays a little differently on a bar table. Still a lot of run-outs but a lot more safety play required as well.

P.S. If you don't want to watch this match, then you wouldn't like any pool match. Only two of the best playing a three set match at three different disciplines. It doesn't get much better than this. These guys are both at the top of their games right now, so it should be a shoot out! Like I said before, it may well come down to who breaks the best in all three games. Playing on the TAR Monster is like playing a U.S. Open in golf. It's just the toughest test of pool that you will see!

Yes Shane dominated yesterday, but don't count Dennis out. He is VERY resilient, and not one to take defeat easily. He hates to lose and will figure out a way to win if possible. There is a good reason why he is the best money player in the world. IMO Shane is only a small favorite if he can continue to break like Godzilla! There will be more "action" tomorrow and on the weekend and thus added pressure. Dennis thrives on that!

Sorry Justin. I didn't watch it or know it was TAR that streamed it.:o. Johnnyt

Parallel universe?

Am I living in a parallel universe?

I've played in fifteen national 8-ball events and watched countless hours of pro 8-ball play, and I've seen literally hundreds of safeties by very high level players.

The pros definitely play less defense than the mid-level amateurs, but I've seen Nick Varner play FIVE CONSECUTIVE safeties in one game! Ask Nicky, Efren, or any other world class player and they will tell you (or show you for some $) that defense is an absolutely essential part of 8-ball.

Nobody on earth can run every table in any game on any table, so...

Thanks for putting this on for a little while Justin. I'm working Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this week so I won't be able to watch this, which really sucks.

If you take a shot at making any new DVDs, I've already got money in the bank waiting for them. I hope this is one of the matches you decide to produce. I would love to see it.

I thought the stream looked beyond amazing. It had that dark quiet backroom gambling feel, yet still relaxed. And, by the way, two of the greatest players of this generation of pool playing the discipline that most people understand.

Freddie <~~~ buying the stream... hopefully can watch
