Hard Times LA Tourney Director

unless there's some backstory I'm missing, she sounds like a jerk, even though a few people see it differently...

There's no excuse to be short or pissy with people who are asking for your help... whether you're directing a tourney, fixing a computer, or taking someone's order at mcdonald's.

Being busy doesn't mean basic social skills can go out the window. And "RTFM"-type answers don't help anyone.

And Maiden, wow, you're completely out of line. Guessing you're a personal friend of hers. The guy was treated rudely and dared to say something about it, and your response is additional rudeness and a request to never come back?

Do the people running the tournament know you're working hard to actively drive away players, at a time when many pool halls have trouble filling the bracket?

The habitués of Hard Times tend to be the type you wouldn't introduce to your wife. Their friendliness depends on the size of your possible bankroll.

There's some of that, but at the tourney's I must say I have really grown to like a lot of the regulars. Some that may look nasty are really nice people - it's all in just getting to know them. I've played in quite a few of the tournaments and not one single person has asked me to gamble.

I agree about getting hassled to gamble. If you go to HT and request a table in the tournament room then you should not be surprised if you are approached for a game. That is the players room and if you are in there alone it is fair to assume you may be interested in a game. But I've never had anyone approach me when playing on the other side.

During a tournament I too have not been jacked up to gamble.

Treated "nicely" ..? No. Treated FAIRLY is all that matters. **** nice. I'll take fair any day. This is a post about being thin skinned. Let it go. It's not that big of a deal.

She's not a waitress. And if she said something rude to me I'd have either fired something back immediately or said **** yerself in my head as I walked away. Who... Cares? Or if you need a more intellectual rhetorical ... cui gives a shit? :)

THis is true of some. But, there are many very friendly people at Hardtimes.

If I had a wife I would not take her to most pool halls in the country.

OK, you feel people need to develop thick skin.

It cuts both ways. If she's being fair to him by acting *****y, he's being fair to her by calling her out on it with an AZB post. Therefore, nobody needs to get riled up about the guy's post. If they do, they're "thin skinned".

How is you firing back different and better than him complaining on the forums?

A couple years back I was asked by Bobalu to be the tournament director at Hard Times. I turned the job down, exactly because I didn't want to deal with all the complaining. If your new to Hard Times, its a little tough to get the lay of the land so to speak. That was under different ownership. Once Brook sold it, all the people who were out were allowed back in. You have to understand the culture at Hard Times. On the tournament side its strictly hardcore pool. Amatuer, 1st Sunday of the month, or special events, you get some serious players. Also keep in mind your handicap goes down when your there. If your used to being a B player everywhere else, your a C at Hard Times. This is due to several factors. One is that they have the tightest brunswick tables you can imagine. The tight equipment coupled with a whole side of the pool hall designated just for hardcore guys.... its obvious why the vibe is like it is. I can't even tell you how many world champions ive seen practicing in that place. Im sorry you felt disrespected by the current TD, but come one dude, let it roll off your back. Or you could have grown some balls and politely asked her to come off of it. That way you could have got it off your chest right then and there and that way you wouldnt have to come on a forum and bit*h.
