I absolutely love TAR, but...

It's my honest opinion that y'all need to keep the races to 100 with players betting their own, or a backers money, going. I've really enjoyed the recent matches that have been shown, hatch playing mike, Johnny and Shane, Shane playing busty, and Shane playing Dennis, but these matches aren't that far out of line. I think that you could get someone, or multiple people, to back either side. I was watching shane play earl on the ten foot and that made me think of this. Shane was down almost 20 games and had a legitimate chance to come back!!! There's hardly anywhere else you can get to see this. Nothing against the new format, I just think that theres also a very very big market for a true gambling format when the stars align and the players allow. Go ahead, hate on me.

Pretty sure Justin has previously stated that the TAR studio is open to whomever wants to play there in whichever format they want to play with their own money.

But i'm sure he'll clarify his stance in a personal response :)

the backers are broke and so are pool players. if we waited for that there would be no more TAR

Personally, I like the new format much better than the old. The races to 100 were not appealing to me, I prefer the shorter races. Especially the all around format that has been going on lately. Keep it up Justin, TAR is evolving and I see it as a great thing for the game.

I also like the new TAR all around format with the shorter races. The races to 100 wore me out as a viewer. That's just too much of 1 game. Much more interesting to mix things up. And I read that the recent Dennis v. SVB match had decent $ bet on top of the TAR money, not that it matters to this viewer at all. I just want to see great pool, and if they play great pool for peanuts, I'd pay to watch that too.

The races to 100 were probably a little more fair for the player, but definitely less interesting for the viewer. I could miss thirty racks and it wouldn't really mean anything to me. But I was mad to have missed one of the days of the all-around.

As for where the money comes from... I'm all in favor of players getting appearance money or getting backed, so long as they can play their A game.

I'm just hoping players like Shane won't ever appear so frequently on TAR that to them it starts feeling routine and they don't feel that intense about it anymore. He seemed more focused in the old race-to-100 days than he did in e.g. the last match. But maybe that's just tight pockets, or a rough day, or he no longer has anything to prove.

I agree, races to 100 can become quite a bore for the viewer

I really liked the races to 100. I like the new formats as well.

Yes SVB needs a break. We have seen enough of him for awhile. Besides hes got his nutz smashed his last 3 times

alex vs frost
busty vs frost
frost vs efren

some good world class onehole

I agree with Joe... I'm losing interest in watching SVB play for a while..

I say match up the players and let them agree on the format.

Oh god! This would be the death of TAR and action everywhere! When was the last time you've seen two pool players agree while matching up? Or agree on anything for that matter? It's all bogus posturing and nittiness. If you wants to play on a 10', they will want to play on the 9'. If you want the 7, they'll give the 8, but on a bar table. But then you'll ask for the breaks, etc. ad naseum.

Nah, the folks who make the calls are the folks whose dollars are at risk. until the players are betting their own, they've got little leverage with which to negotiate. Furthermore, they lack the vision required to make pool marketable to viewers, which is what is really needed anyway, because there is far more money to be made promoting themselves and the game than gambling anyway. Just ask Janette Lee.

I have purchased quite of few of the matches based on my own interests of the players/game. I can tell you that I have watched more of the racks of pool with the new format compared to the old race to 100 format. Knowing that each day there is a WIN/Loss peaks my interests more I guess. I am less likely to just casually watch the computer and more likely to actually focus on the match.

Why is SVB on each match-up? He is a top player but there are other fish in the sea as well. I know that most people from the States root for him and say that he is the best but there are plenty other top-class american players which are equally entairtaining.

P.S. JA vs Earl on a 10-footer :D

SVB is in every event because he'll play "whoever." Sadly, people don't feel the same way when playing him.

I agree 110% on giving Shane a break from TAR. I have been saying that for a while now. I want to see Alex, Scott, Efren, Busty, Dennis, and anyone else willing to play those guys even in an all around format.

The ultimate match would be Effy vs Scott in a long 1 pocket race but apparently it isn't gonna happen.

The only thing I know with 100% certainty is that no matter what we do someone isnt going to like it. So with that in mind I try to listen to a broad range of suggestions and if at all possible implement those in future matches.

Any top tier players that want to match up can come play their match in the TAR studio and we will pay them. They can set up their own rules, own game, start time...everything. We will make an offer on what they come up with. We can add money to the middle or pay each guy an appearance fee. For us to do this and cover our ass for promotion they must post no show money with TAR.

What I will never do again is spend days on the phone going back and forth between two players and god only knows how many backers hashing out minor details only to have the whole deal fall apart after two weeks of talking. This has happened NUMEROUS times over the years. No more. If guys want to bet and get paid to stream it all they have to do is make the game call me and get an offer.

As for Shane on TAR in the past he was always on because he always had money and wasnt scared of anyone. Thats what happens when you show real action. You can only show the guys who are willing to play and have someone willing to stake them.

No one was complaining about Shane when we made the Archer vs Shane match which people have wanted to see since we started and then it was okay when we made Orcollo vs Shane which is one that has been talked about for years. The Busty/SVB match seemed to be well thought of as well. Those are the three matches Shane has played for TAR in 2012. Its not like we are running him out here every week to play so bum. Look at those names: Busty, Orcollo, Archer. Who else would play all three of those guys even getting a guaranteed payday? I can tell you from experience its a hell of a lot less than you think.

There are only about ten players on earth enough people will pay to see that can generate the revenue to cover the expenses. You are going to see the same guys. I dont have a plan for Shane to play anytime soon because I dont see a big match that hasnt been done out there for him. The only exception to that is if he and Frost decide on a 1P action match.

As for the one pocket only match thing....only way that happens is if its an action match that doesnt put us at risk with a bunch of expenses. It would be lucky to sell 150 viewers.

Any budding promoters out there want to give it a shot, go make a match. You can come to the studio and I'll do your PPV production for a flat rate. You keep all the money you make just pay me for the production up front. I'll set up your PPV for you so all the money goes directly in your account and you have access to the entire process from beginning to end.

I appreciate suggestions the only thing I ask is consider what it actually takes to do whatever it is you are suggesting.

You know I love my one pocket but if it won't pay the bills I just don't see why TAR should do it. Maybe only SVB vs Efren vs Frost might make JCIN's nut anything else probably wont pay the bills.

The only other One pocket match that would pay would be say Bill I/Scott F vs SVB/Keith Mc but then you got 4 heads to pay.
