Hello i know basic answer is their hands are wet, but is it to prevent cue swing left and right at backward motion or forward motion. How critical it is?

I use it, allows the cue to to smoothly through the bridge. It's that simple.

And if you've ever been in Manila between...oh, say...January to December, you've experienced the most humid conditions on the planet:D

When I used to travel there on business I took three shirts for each day (company required suit and tie no matter where we were in the world, or what time of day).

They have used it since they stated playing in their very humid country. A lot of the rooms have no A/C and some are outside with just a roof. Most all of them have a very long bridge. Johnnyt

New to the forum, just started playing after a more than many year layoff. I don't know all the customs here and don't want to derail a thread but it looks like the thread is pretty much dying and I have a related question.

I never use powder, talc, etc. I do use very fine steel wool. I don't see anyone in my league using steel wool and I am wondering if I am using an outdated concept or if others use steel wool as well? What are some of the pros and cons. What is optimal?

I too sometimes use steel wool to get my hands nice and smooth. I find that having a layer of skin gets in the way of a smooth stroke so usually I rub my palms vigorously with the steel wool until its just bone. I find that it helps immensely with moisture.

Interesting idea using steel wool on the hand. Back to the topic. Personally being from the Caribbean we don't use AC much it's always humid or raining and talc is VERY popular in these tropical Paradise places. On the island we use it because it's the norm. And on the main land I use it because when I'm cold (or stressing) my hands sweat profusely  but that's just me:rolleyes:

PURELL hand sanitizer works just as well and less messy.
And it kills bacteria.
A few drops to the bridge fingers is all you need.

Have you ever been to the Philippines, it is Hot & Wet like the Swamps in Florida & Louisiana.

I use to be on my feet a minimum of 12-15 hours daily, I sweat profusely, and used Baby Power to keep my feet drier.

I will assume Power does the Trick for those who play Pool in the Philippine, and DOES a better job of Stopping Wet Hands, better than a Dry Towel.

I never knew that Joey. I'll try it. I have OCD and carry that stuff everywhere.

I've used Johnson's Baby Powder for the last 42 years when I'm shooting. That's the only thing I use it for, pool. I've come to associate that smell with some wonderful and fond memories.

I presume you mean that you use steel wool to condition your shaft? <<< this

I've never been a fan--the steel can embed itself in the pores of the shaft. Yes, I can see this has happened over time. I may try the sandpaper.

I prefer to use 1000, 1200, or 1500 grit sandpaper. Buy it at any autoparts store.

Leather is also nice, as it will remove oils and grime while putting a fine burnish on the shaft. hmmm... mebbe I will try this first instead.

I never use powders.

dld

Thank you

Have you considered wearing a pool glove?

No, I have seen them but haven't tried one. Thank you

I clearly do not use the steel wool on my hand, I use it in my hand as DoubleD understood. Thank you
