Shafts are done in various mm's. How about the butt. Does each cue maker have their own design or is every butt turned to a certain standard. How about commercial cues. Does each company vary? Reason being I prefer a narrower grip if available. Thanks, Frank

there are different diameters

50 years ago most cue butts were 1.35 plus diameter, when i started about 10 years ago most were 1.25, now you will find many at 1.24 or smaller.
i have a customer in fla that likes the butt at 1.20, most custom builders will make you a cue at whatever you desire. i personally like cues a bit smaller and a lot of my cues are between 1.22 and 1.24.
it ain't rocket science

you should do what i do and start keeping a record of cue specs. i've got most of the specs for every cue i've owned.

it makes it easier for you to know exactly what you like. one day you'll order a custom cue that's way more specific than any cue maker will want to build for you but it'll be just the way you like it!

Butt

Real men like big butts. Seriously, I've seen everything between
1.20 and 1.45

Great thing to do.
Did you take specs of joint size, A-joint size, middle of the handle and bottom ?
Most butts have one angle/taper. Most common is the .400" taper from joint to bottom ( .840-1.240 ) or a little close to .014" per inch taper .
Then there are the curved taper, dual-angle or compound angle tapers.
A 1.245" bottom butt might have a skinnier grip section than 1.240" bottom butts in a lot of cases.
Imo, all things being equal, fatter forearms will have a stiffer hit and skinnier handles will have more feel.
