How much practice does it take to mantain your current level of playing?

I'm a strong A player. I work on average about 60 hours a week. I can walk to a table and run a rack, or win a tournament, only playing once a month. All luck I guess.

Working your way up to that level was probably more involved I bet.

I used to play for a living, for 7 years, averaged 40 grand a year, but I played 8 to 10 hours a day, and didn't miss much. If I took time off work, and applied myself, I could be 24th in Country again, lol. I guess maybe all the play before, helped me stay in dead punch, without playing much now. I still amaze myself at times. It keeps me hanging on.

If I practice 2-3 hours per week, I am able to maintain my C+ skill level. I am about to step my game up, or at least I hope; so I will begin practicing 1-3 hours per day. There are days where I wish i could play all day.

I hardly

don't practice any, but I play usually on Friday/Saturday, and sometimes Sunday nights in weekly tournaments. My room I go to has 5 tournaments on the weekend with 2 of them handicapped, the others are a race to 3.

If I am going to play in a 64 or 128 player tournament, then I will practice some before the tournament.

I am a B player ..Generally I just step up and play, my game is either there or its not. But either way I play solid..Sometimes you can hit a gear and your game comes back up to speed faster. Other times you are searching for a rythm

Of course I have been playing for @25 years and practiced a lot along the way, lots of action is what I used to keep sharp. If someone is trying to get in your wallet that is all the motivation I need to play good.

IMO practice if fine, but eventually you have to use that knowledge in a tournament or for $$$ game or whats the point.

Those guys who practice all day but then never use what they have learned crack me up.

I have no clue what A, B, or C player means, but I practice on average 15-25 hours a week. Usually working on my one pocket game (occasionally 9ball or 8ball). If I played in the APA, I would be a 6 or 7 (That's what I've been told). I wouldn't know the difference between a 3 or a 10 to be honest. Don't really care much.

To answer the question though, I'd say I would have to play a minimum of 3-5 hours weekly. Anything less than that and I don't feel I have done enough.

You are right about that! When your wallet is at stake it makes your game come back!

 It's on my to do list. I'm in New Orleans Mon-Thurs for school. I'd like to go to Buffs one day when I'm free.

You ask a lot of questions on AZ all the time, so let me
ask you one.

What is you playing level D, C, B, A, and how many hours do you practice
every week?

I'm sure the AZ posters would love to hear.

I am sure the AZB forum would ask me a question if they wanted to. Unless of course you are speaking for them now! As per your statement in one of my threads, you can't believe everything you read! When someone ask me a question. About my trying to match up with a road player, In town now.
I do practice about 2 hours 3 days a week.

NO I don't speak for the forum, or any other group,
never pretended to, or implied that I did.
I don't need a society, or some group.
I was asking that question all on my own.
But I'm sure there are many Posters on AZ that would
love to know, honestly, how you play. :D

Funny that you answered how much you practice
but you avoid answering what level, D, C, B, A,
that you play at.

The reason I ask this is because you've implied that
you play very, very well.
But I've heard others say that's really not the case,
so I thought I'd give you a chance to clear this up.

I like that, you heard others say I do not play well! It seems funny that I cannot play in the worlds pool hall once a month first Saturday of the month tournament. It is listed as a tournament for A and B players and the A player has to give the B player the 8 playing 9 ball. Buffalo said that I could not play in it. One of my Lock Society members, and student Lock Nut has won it 2 months in a row. They just started it 2 months ago. Call Buffalo Billiards, the worlds pool hall and ask Buff or anyone how I play! Do you play Scotty Townsend even, or Lil John even? I did on more than one occasion. Danny Smith, even. Lil Sal gets the 7 and out!

And yet you still haven't answered the question, that's fine.

Why are you busting lock's balls? I've never seen him act anything but extremely polite on the forums, and he likes to post new threads designed to spark discussion. On top of that, it's clear he plays pretty sporty.

You heard he's not that hot? Who gives a shit? Has anyone heard anything about you, or are you just not even worth discussing?

His answer was pretty clear. He's played guys like scotty townsend (a guy who's put up 7 and 8 packs) even... and is barred from a tournament that accepts A players. That means' he's AA minimum.

...and on top of that, if he's playing road players, he's no slouch!
Hope to meet you, Lock, the next time I'm in Metairie (sp.?)!

He said he was going to spot Ronnie Wiseman, 3 games in a race to 9
playing nine ball, and Ronnie wouldn't play I call that BS that's why.
If you want to swallow that load of cr*p, be my guest!

Can't discuss things with you, you're the guy who's so smart it holds you
back from playing good? LOL

PS. I never implied that I was a great player, or to smart to become one.

I feel ya Shaky

I'm playing so badly in general that 5 minutes over the course of the next 2 years should keep me this sharp.

I'm at an all time low , so if I don't play or practice I don't have to worry about it :p Truth is I want to play but have been steady at building up a new career .For me it's about priorities , once I get a bit more established and can trade in the fork for a spoon in the cereal bowl ,I can be back at the table. The way things have been that fork has been saving my milk for the next bowl .

Hello Scott,
I would like to meet you too. I have heard and read a lot about you.
I told the guy all he has to do is call Buffalo Billiards, the worlds pool hall in Metairie, Louisiana and ask buffalo of someone that works there. Ronnie Wiseman is there every night! Ask him. He can Google.com and get the phone number. Thanks for your response, Scott. Very good to hear from you.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.
