Tell me about it. The next closest in my division is a couple of 7's, so I usually am giving up a pretty massive spot. It's enough to make it tough for me to win if my opponent is playing well for their skill level or if I am a bit off. I just lost to one of those 7's this week. I couldn't do anything right for the first 4 racks and he was getting out pretty easily, so I went down 35-5. Managed to pull myself together well enough to make the final ball count 58-55, but that's still a 14-6 win for him. Ouch.

I think there are a lot of 9's, and probably even 8's, that are the only ones in their division. Even though SL9 encompasses everything from strong B players on up, there still aren't that many people that fall into that category relative to the number of players in APA, and there are even fewer that play in the APA. It's not for everyone, and the APA really caters to the lower end of the spectrum because that's most of their clientele.

In my girlfriend's division, I've got 3 other 9s(including a member here). Now my goal is to go undefeated and/or try to get my first 9b skunk. Lost to another 9 in playoffs last season and lost to a 7 by 1 point during the regular season. :o

Best of luck to you...I use to have a guy play on my team out of Wilsonvile,,his name is Steve..tall blondle fellow,,played pretty well..I think he should be a nine by now..
Always played with a lot of heart..can't remeber his last name,,I'll go through my records an see if I can find it while moving stuff around,,an see if you know him..
But again good luck with the 100% season.

I think I only played once down that way when we had a straggler added to our division playing out of Charbenneau(sp?). I've mostly been in the Sunrise division in Inner-SE/NE. Done a stint or two in Oregon City, NoPo, downtown and outer-SE areas, too. Having a bad case of CRS doesn't help me much. I was going to say, if you're still a member, you could scour the division rosters and see if any of the names stick out.

Going undefeated is tough. I've had several 1-loss seasons, especially in masters, but there's always been someone that gets me, usually right near the beginning of the session. I wonder if I play better once the pressure of potentially going undefeated is gone...

I played in APA and TAP for about 15 years. Nice thing about getting older and moving to Florida is that our local traveling league plays Tuesday at 1:00 PM. We play on at least 8 (more often 9 footers) and there are no fees.

We also have four 9' GC IIIs in our club house and play every week day from 12:30 to about 2:30. Usually have 16 guys and rotate partners every game.

Then too, some of the guys play at 7:00 PM every night.

Retirement is like being in high school with none of the BS.

Been playing BCA and going to Vegas for about 15 years. Have had the same core team for many years. We not only play decent, we have a lot of fun and are actually good friends.

I am lucking in that our league is pretty strong and there are some very competitive teams to play. For the most part, all that play in our league are pretty competitive and have the ability to win on any given night.

And here we thought it was the weather that made you guys move to Florida!!

I play in a handicapped BCAPL 8 ball league one night a week. I also have a table at home where most of my time is logged, and match up or play in the occasional local tournament as well. So while I participate in a league, it certainly doesn't define what kind of player I am. It's just one aspect in the various ways I enjoy the game.

For me the league is my night out. I enjoy my team mates and most of the other players in the league. It's fun and the team concept adds a certain form of pressure. And I've made some new friends. Since I spend about 4 1/2 hours there and only play four games, it obviously is not all about the pool for me.

The wife has a nice tan. Me, I'm kinda pasty cause I spend too much time in the pool room. Save your pennies, retirement is a ball.

APA Masters + APA 9 Ball. I like league because it's a night out with friends where I can count on all of them being there. Some friends who live far away won't come out just for a typical evening of shooting, but they feel league is important enough to make a drive so I get to keep in touch with them and maybe shoot a little with 'em.

It's also a good way for a guy who's nitty about gambling to play under a little pressure.

Did a third league for a while, BCA 8-ball, but somehow it was less fun even though I think some of the APA rules and handicapping are lame. I like house leagues and may sign up for one again at some point.

I see a lot of quite strong players in leagues, especially masters, you have multiple A+ players.

This is something that pool players need to hear more often. And AZB'ers should feel free to glean what they can from the link in my signature...

NAPA on Wednesday nights. So far so good i guess. I like spotting players 4 games in a race to 8 in 9 ball

I really like the system they have in place. Winner of the lag gets to chose the format which is either 8,9 or 10 ball!! SO... You can change it up on how you feel and every game has different spots for difference in skill levels. Im rated the highest you can be but you win matches by the race which is the format best suited for the better player. This past Wednesday I played a guy 9 ball in a race to 8 and lost 8-7 after giving up 4 games. I should've won it but i botched an easy out. Overall I really like the system and I get to play with an old hockey mate of mine from my youth which is great. I thought I would never say this but I like it :D

I play in a local Bar, 8-ball league. There are six bars and 13, 5 person teams. I got lucky last Wednesday night and won all 5 of my games. I don't get to practice or play much, so I usually only win 3 or 4 out of 5 games.

BCA Scotch Doubles on Tuesday night (14 teams out of 3 bars), APA Wednesday night (8 teams out of 8 bars), and BCA Team play on Thursday night (14 teams out of 8 bars). I enjoy league play, just not the whiners. I am sure that every bar, town, league has them. I just hate them because they ruin a good time for most of the others that are there for the social aspect. Plus, I am the district Rep for APA in our area so I get to hear it more than normal. Comes with the territory I guess.

Anyway, I still have fun no matter how much drama is going on for the night. At least I get to let loose at the weekly local tournament on Saturday night and the bi-weekly one on Sunday afternoons. It's nice to have some serious pool mixed in with the drama.

yup

league for some pool, a little socialization, and to qualify for tourney crap. but also use it for some discounted rates at certain times.

Been retired for ten years. Highly recommend it to everyone. Think the number of leagues I play in is do to too little to do. Hard to find things to keep busy. Three days to cut my grass! Found out I miss our Friday night Scotch Doubles league. Is four nights a week too much :p?

I played in several bar leagues. Most of the people were very nice.
But there were always a few who took the bar league way too serious and these were the ones that took the fun out of it.
Then you have the teams that bring in some really good players near the end to leap into first place and win it all.WTF is that all about?
So I'm pretty much done with it.
