Random Acts of Kindness

A local APA player here in town who is raw beginner had her cue stolen out of her car. It was fairly inexpensive production cue but none the less disheartening for a person playing with what she can afford.

One of her team mates loaned her a nice oldish Meucci for league night and after asking if she liked the way it played gave it to her and threw in a nice case.

I enjoy happy stories within the pool community... anyone else have a story?

Geeze, that was really nice thing to do. Now, I don't mean to be the cynical ass in this conversation, but is she hot? I mean, regardless - that was still a really nice thing to do, but honestly I can think of several women in our local league that I would gladly had over a cue to (that I no longer use) if it could be considered foreplay. By that same token though, I have given away a few to good friends and never thought it might go that way. But, hey, I'm a guy and a pool player and I must admit (to my eternal shame) I guess ulterior motives are part of our DNA.

When I was first learning the game the manager of a pool hall saw me playing and asked me if I wanted to play him. I was playing with a house cue and he was playing with his playing cue, after a few hours of playing he went to the back and handed me an old McDermott. He said he liked my game, keep the cue and walked away...

I've given away more cues and cases than I can recall.

But I also fix alot of tips and shafts and other cue issues for people I run into if it seems like they would appreciate it.

Funny really, I keep a selection of tip tools in my case more for other people than I would ever use for myself. :)

I had just placed in the top few for VNEA Int'l JR tournament one year and received the usual savings bond and soft case. I had no need for the case and saw a youngster who was competing in his first year there. He had no case and just carried his stick around to matches. I gave him the case and took a picture with him (he had a huge smile).

Jack Justis came across this story and sent me a brand new Justis West case which I still use. Random Acts of Kindness and Karma at its finest!

Thanks again Jack!

Definitely!

A buddy of mine got hammered and wanted to play a stronger player just a single game of 9 ball for triple digits. Don't think he ever did that before, certainly not something he'd choose to do sober. The stronger player won (with a 1-9, ouch) and my buddy wanted to do it again.

Even though tradition says you should give a guy the chance to win his money back, I knew this was a situation where he would lose a lot of dough, he was too wasted to shoot his best game. He would regret it in the morning.

I'm not the good guy in this story... it's actually the guy who took his money. I asked him let my buddy off the hook by not playing a 2nd game. He did even though he could have easily milked my friend for more cash. And he even tried to give him the money back, but my boy insisted he keep it.

Same player, later on we're playing for fun and I notice he jumps really well and ask him a few questions. He says "you play pretty good, why don't you have your own jump stick?" ...I tell him I just never got around to buying one. On the spot he just gives me his old jump cue, probably worth about 100 bucks, for nothing.

I'd like to publicly thank tony for being a cool dude.

I was playing once in a weekly tournament and my opponent was from out of town and playing with a house cue. He miss cued on a shot and asked me if i had a tip scuffer. I did and i let him use it.
I did win the set. He did not play well.

Celophanewrap...Ah, how the lack of just ONE letter changes a meaning! LOL If you "had a woman over a cue" it would definitely be considered foreplay...and perhaps more! LOL  I know what you meant, and I'm just having fun with ya!

Another: A few years back I was in and out of the hospital all the time and broke because of it and Bill Grassley aka: Cornerstone Cues sent my son a free cue since I couldn't afford to buy him one.

How is it everyone has heard of Mother Theresa, but not Water "Measureman" Lock? The man who, when asked, did not refuse a weaker player the use of his scuffer?! You are an inspiration to us all.

I am in the process of a random act of kindness as we speak.I went on vacation a couple months ago. I met a family the my girlfriend has been friends with for a few years. They live in Texas. They are real nice people, live in a nice house, have newer nice vehicles and so on. But the dad of the family really bust his ass for them to have those things. Well I really hit it off with this family. Carey is the husbands name, he has around 4 real nice electric guitars, me and him picked around a little bit together, then his son I think it 10 maybe 11 years old brings out this old beat up, spray painted guitar. I saw it and fell in love with it, I said I have got to have this guitar. I said name your price. He said well I gave that to my son but you can have it and I will give him another one. Okay lets rewind a few decades. Careys aunt gave him this guitar in 1968, Carey went to work in the oil fields in Texas and his brother destroyed the guitars finish. So Carey sanded and spray painted it... Back to now... I told Carey I would buy his son a brand new Fender Strat and amp, you can buy them new for around $120. He said you got a deal. Well as soon as I left to head back to Arizona I knew what I was going to do. I decided that I was going to restore this 1960 Silvertone guitar and hand deliver it to him. I will be reuniting him with the guitar November the 8th. Funny thing is his wife knows what I am doing but he doesn't have a clue. I will post pics of what I have done!

My random act comes from a fellow AZ'er. A while back there was a thread about being colour blind and playing pool. I have a pretty severe case of colour blindness and I have a really hard time seeing the difference between the 2 and the 4 balls. This man sent me a private message asking me about it and decided that he was going to send me a pink 4 ball just because. The ball ended up getting to my house right on my birthday  to be honest I didn't really expect it to show up.

Oh and the reason the rag is over the head stock is because it says his name on it, it says Carey David by Silvertone, a little personal touch. I have been stringing this guy along for 2 months now. He knows that I am restoring the guitar but has no clue that I am giving it back to him. He sees updated post and pics of it on Facebook and says, I know it is in the right hands now! lol sucker aint got a clue

I asked on here once about what was a decent youth cue for my oldest daughter. "Rip" volunteered a stealth brand pool cue that he gave me for free. The cue was in great shape, and my daughter, who loved it, still plays with it today.

That is awesome

Jeannette lee was at derby, in action (not super high i was told) and this kid walks up to her and is like wow your the black widow! etc etc. She stops playing, leaves and comes back with a cue, signs it and give it to the kid.

And people asked me the other day why is it at the APA National Team event, the line to see Jeannette was out the door and these pool delinquents i know from Miami walked right up and immediately got pictures with SVB who was also there in the same room.
