It could be because it's new to you. I have been shooting with 60" cues since 1994. They just feel better to me. Glad you found one that you like. Shoot with it for a month exclusively and see if you still love it. If you do, it's a keeper.
deanoc, if you don't mind me asking, who made your cue?
I went to a 60" cue about 18 months ago and it has made at least a half-ball difference in my game. And......no more curling my little and ring fingers around the rubber butt cap.
I don't have an answer for why we play better with an extra 2" of cue, but it's good that we do so I don't think much about it.

I've played with a 60 inch cue going on almost 15 years...Only disadvantage I see sometimes if your stroke isn't straight the length accentuates the problem.
Sometimes I pick up a house cue or my break cue and it seems just easier to pocket balls. Just point and shoot
I went to a 60 inch cue about 2 years ago, will never go back. For me, it gives me more room to use my stroke (I'm all choked up on a standard 58 inch cue). I don't know why exactly, but it just feels better and my stroke is straighter with a 60 inch cue. Years ago I played my best pool with a 59 inch custom cue; I never made the connection until getting my last cue and seeing an immediate improvement.
I got a 60" bender last year...and can't put it down. Don't know why, just feels right. The weight, balance, feels like there's more substance there, feels tougher, seems to hit with authority but don't know how much of that is just because it's a bender

Frank Stellman (Sailor Cues) and one great straight pool player in his day plays with a 60 inch cue and has for some time now. He reccomended a 59 inch cue for me and I never looked back. It seems like such a small difference but its a better player for me. I am not tall either at 5'9" but my arm span is 60 inches.
I think I am confused... armspan is usually measured middle finger tip to middle finger tip with your arms straight out at your sides.....
I'm 6'2 and my arms span is 74" I always assumes armspan and height was close to the same within a few inches....

Pretty sure there's something wrong if you're 5'9 and you have a wingspan of 60 inches.

Longer cue = more weight. More weight x same stroke speed = more force. More force = more cue ball speed and RPMs (longer follow and draw).
Also, just having your bridge and grip hands comfortably farther apart could be beneficial for your stroke and tip placement accuracy, which would also improve your follow and draw - along with cue ball control in general.
I'm 6-3, but won't replace my shafts (we are Borg) - so I'll just have to envy you.

All four of my 60" cues are the same weight (within a tenth of an ounce or two) as my 58" cues.

I've used a 60" cue before and I'm only 5'6. It's an 18 oz Filipino cue that doesn't feel awkward at all. The butt cap is a little longer, I feel, but the balance point and length doesn't feel weird. On longer shots, it actually helps a lot with the stretches, I find myself using the bridge much less.
Longer cues have the opposite effect for me. I am 6'2" (if that makes a difference) and longer cues make it easier for me to tell if I am drawing the cue straight. Easier to be more disciplined in my stroke. I know that length shouldn't matter on anything other than long shots. But I have two 59.5" cues (Gus Szamboti and Lee Peppers) and I love playing with them. The only disadvantage is that there needs to be more free space around the table.
