I'm about ready for a new tip.I have been using the moorie "slow" for years,(love that tip) but I'm hearing alot say that you can't get the good ones anymore.

So can someone direct me to a tip that plays like a moorie slow? There's so many new tips out nowadays that I just don't know what to try next. Thanks for the help. John B.

Im a Moori guy...I've tried the duds, the kamui's and the rest...you can't beat a Moori. Dud has a nice hit but looks like sh!t, kamui has nice hit but bites into the cueball kind of unpredictably(for me) and ......etc.
Stick with Moori...for me it's Moori med.

I've still got some original Mooris.....
...but I consider the Sniper by Tiger to be just as good......
...Sniper is the tip on my favorite playing cue for a few years

Hi John;

As with much of our equipment, this is very subjective - opinions abound.

I am also a big lover of moori tips, however, between their inconsistency on the new ones and/or the fact that there are so many counterfeit ones, it's tough to find a good one. The last ones I got were delaminating and mushrooming like crazy. that was it for me.

After researching it, I went with a kamui black soft which was the equivalent of a moori medium, which is what I liked. I am so impressed with the kamui tip that I can't see myself using anything else anytime soon.

I would expect that kamui's black ss would then be the equivalent of the moori slow you like.

If you decide to go with a kamui, I have 2 suggestions:

1. Be sure to order from a kamui authorized seller - this will avoid the possibility of getting a counterfeit.

2. consider having approx 1/4 of the new tip cut off when installing as these babies are l-o-n-g. some do like to leave them as they come so it is a personal preference.

They grip the cue ball extremely well and feel good doing it.

And they wear very slow, do not mushroom at all in my experience, thus only requiring minimal maintenance - a quick scuff and shape and play on for a month or two.

FWIW
Some of the top snooker players (Steve Davis, Ronnie O'Sullivan etc) now play with Talisman Pro.

I will buy you one of PoolDawg8's Dawg Duds, sir. I have tried a lotta tips and found none better.

Let me know if you would like to arrange to have him send you one. It would be my pleasure.

As much as I hate to pay much for equipment, I'll also second the Kamui black tips. Each one I've had is super consistent. I went with the super soft (not actually very soft, imo - Kamui has their own definition of hardness i think) and I like it. I switched back to a triangle recently to save money and I will not make that mistake again. Less consistency and more miscues. I've decided to try the next kamui black tip and go with the soft one instead of the super soft. We'll see. As KC says, these tips are tall, but I don't have mine cut down. I do have it reshaped after playing with it for a while though. All told, good product despite the higher price point.

Hope you're well and have a great holiday season. Hope to catch up with you at the DCC if not before.

Cheers mate,

JL

I will 3rd that
I use the Kamui black SS and it bites the ball

My vote goes to tom hay and his ultra skin layered tips. In my experience they play just as well if not better then a kamui at a fraction of the cost. Just my 2 pennies worth

My 2 cents.

I had a kumui soft blk and it played great. I was a former moori only kind of guy. The kumui was good but mushroomed on me more than i cared for. The other factor was in less than a year i needed a new tip. I thought that was kind of a short time frame. I dont tip tap or scuff at all.

My new tip is the tom hays soft tip mentioned above. For the money this maybe the best value in pool. This tip is less than 3 bucks and its amazing. Im probably a month in on this tip and i am really impressed. The tip is high or fat or tall. It took ke a while to get used to the look of all that tip on the end of my cue.

I break with my cue and this thing holds its shape with no problem. Chalk holds great and no miscues.

For the price and quality buy 1o of these and never worry about any tips again.

Kamui

i play with Kamui Black Soft, just changed from a Kamui Black SS. I like the SS better except everyone I have used did mushroom a couple of times early. After that they were perfect. I used to play with a Moori medium.

I thought I just saw a post from Tom Hay where he raised the price of the Ultraskin tips to $10 each. Still a good price IMHO and I agree, similar in play and quality to Kamui.

I, too, have been a Moori guy for a long time. I have tried almost every tip on the market on my personal cue and haven't found a single tip that's made me say, "Wow! That's way better than a Moori!" However, many have been just as good or very close. I haven't run into a single bad Moori tip, but I've heard stories of other players that have. As with ANY manufacturing process, there will be a certain amount of bad finished products which is just an unfortunate reality. And, yes, counterfeits are out there, as with ANY successful product line. You just have to know who you're getting them from.

If you're thinking of switching only because of the rumors, don't bother. Those rumors have been going around for quite a while, yet every time I order more Moori tips, they arrive in the mail a few days later. If you want some really interesting info, ask Joe Barringer at Cue Components his thoughts on the subject, or just read this thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=294779.

IMHO, I can tell the quality of a tip when I install it. When trimming the side of the tip flush to the ferrule, if the leather trims cleanly it's a quality tip. Some of the best trimming tips I've installed and highly recommend are Moori, Kamui, Tiger Onyx, and Tom Hay's UltraSkin Layered tips.

Of course, tip preference is 100% subjective, so you might hate what I love. Best of luck finding a new tip!

Try a Kamui brown S or a G2 M. You'll like them. I'm using the G2 H and it reminds me of oldtime Moori Q.

Josh, you're not the first one that has mentioned the Wizard playing like the original Moori.

The wiz is a well made tip and plays decent.

John B.

Blackburn doesn't have a recommendation for ya? ;)

Tiger Emerald tips used here.

I've never been a fan of laminated tips (always used one-piece tips like Elkmasters, Triangles, LePros, etc.), but Tiger Emeralds are what converted me. Played with a friend's cue that has a Moori medium on it, and the Emerald plays very, very similar.

Really grabs the ball, but isn't a soft/mushy tip by any stretch of the imagination.
