Keith McCready coming out of retirement!

I don't care about the format, I just want to see Keith play again. It's truly magical when he's in stroke. It's not like the guy is elderly.. I'm sure he's got plenty left to show us!

yep

Yep, a lot of people are missing the fact that Keith is only like 55? Thats not real old.....

What would it take Keith to regain his speed?

Barring any health issues (which I don't believe he has), I wonder how much play/practice/time Keith would estimate it'd take him to get back to world class speed.

A month of playing many hours most every day? With a mix of practice and action- I think that might get him pretty darn close. But without a # of tourneys under his belt, I don't know that he could enter into a world class field event and expect to get a real high finish.

Whatcha guys think?

I think the most pertinent thing would be his eyesight.
Efren's game fell off badly til he got laser.
Billy Johnson's game suffered in his last few years for the same thing.

I think he doesn't stand a chance.

I wonder whatever happened to Shorty. Is he still around? He could definitely play!

I sometimes wonder too...I know he had some significant success in league pool in the early2000s , but I haven't heard about him in a while.

They used to tell tales in Westmont of when he was ~15 and his mom came into thr poolroom hollering about wanting to know why her son had thou$ands under his mattress.

I think full-time players who take a hiatus, the only way to get in stroke is to be engaged in combat, whether short action sets or all nighters.

Tournaments are okay, but they don't let you broaden your wing span, so to speak.

I would think aside from the eyes, it would also be muscle memory. They still have the same arsenal of shots, and you can't lose the wisdom, but it would take a couple hundred or more hours of hitting balls daily before one could get close to the same fluidity they once had.

Older eyes take longer to focus...Keith may have to slow his pace a bit.
...and get trickier...
..Fred Davis in the snooker world was still winning some matches at 70...
...but he was playing like Einstein

I got one word for you: Ridder Raymond Ceulemans.

Keith play slow? :D

That would actually be the best thing to ever happen to him. Many times, I thought he should have thought about the shot a little longer before pulling the trigger. Keith is definitely a rhythm player.

When he and Luc Salvas played in mini race-to-9 tournament at Glass City Open, everybody else's score was 0 and 2 or 1 and 1, while their match speeds along to hill-hill, with Keith coming out on top. :p

I think Keith has always had really good eyesight.. not sure if that has changed in the last few years.

Still 20/20. ;)

At the horse track, though, he has trouble reading the size 2 font they use in the Racing Form. :embarrassed2:

Just an FYI, contact has been initiated between the parties at the time of this writing.

That's great to hear! :)

Has Keith shared with you how he might intend to get back into speed? How many times has he hit a ball in the recent past?

He hasn't been hitting him, but this recent turn of events has him hitting balls downstairs, just in case something develops.

Keith right now has to match up accordingly to what he can defend and what he can't. He needs to play games to where he can slow down the straight shooters. I don't think 9-ball or 10-ball is in his repertoire right now. Therein lies the rub.

Action is on the horizon, though, in the D.C. Metropolitan Area, I'm afraid. His nostrils look a little wider. He's starting to smell that money. :D
