Derby City Ten Ball Invitational

Hi Jay, I have been to the last 3 Derbys and was at Tunica in July. The matches on the 10 foot tables were great to watch. I have wanted to meet you to say hello but you are always busy working, and I don't like to be bothered when I am working. Diamond puts on a great tournament/event. I will be there again in January. I know it will be another good one. Maybe the US Open needs managed by a company like Diamond? They do a first rate job with their tournaments.

Or maybe Diamond could just start a new, third tournament...

since a certain date in October will be available now...

:grin-devilish:

Along with our established champions, we will be introducing some new players this year. Strong young players like Joey Gray, Chip Compton and Keith Bennett will be in the field this year. They want to get in there and tangle with the big boys! Things are going to get very interesting in Derby City this year. :wink2:

Jesse Engel is the latest player to get in. The tournament is now officially the Diamond Ten Ball Invitational!

Sounds great, Jay. Your efforts and, of course, those of Greg Sullivan and his entire team at Diamond Billiards, are greatly appreciated.

With banks, one pocket, nine ball, the ten ball invitational, the straight pool challenge and all the action matches, Derby City remains a truly unique and special event.

... and it's getting better all the time.

This is a fwiw item.

I believe that the pool world would be well served by adopting a standardized naming convention for pool tournaments wherein a game of rotation is played.

The naming convention I have in mind is... after the sponsor's name and/or location of the tournament, there would be the following... XX/YY/ZZ, where XX is the game of rotation (typically either a 9 or a 10), where YY is the number of games necessary to win a race (typically 7, 9, 11 or more) , and ZZ is the length of the tables on which the tournament is to be played.

For example, Jay's tournament would be called "The Diamond 10/11/10 Invitational".

A local regional tournament could be "The Seattle 9/9/9 Open", which is a 9-ball tournament with races to 9 played on 9-footers.

Like I said... it's just an idea.

Wow! Sounds like the Fatboy Challenge on steroids! (No disrespect Eric)

I'm thinking this 16 player field is going to fill out VERY impressively.

Hey Jay, might it be PPV stream?

This is gonna be reeeeeaaaaaal good.

(In the immortal words of *B, "my $1000 check is in the mail" I'm in! ;) )

I love steroids!!!!!

I just didnt do the "Fatboy" deal this year, I wont be there and I need to watch my $$$ right now, I just made some big moves in real estate. Most likely next year, i'll be back. Jay runs a great event,

Like to see Justin Hall among these. He seem up to par!

put him in .
im sure he would play.

Hey Real,
How goes it for you? Justin Hall was down here for 2 weeks and told me Wednesday night that he was going home to Florida. He said he was not going to the tournament down here in Louisiana this past weekend.
Real, he gave a guy 10/2 playing One Pocket and beat him like a drum. Remind me of you! Justin shoots good.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

yes i did.
im sure i could get in this .
but i have never played on a 10 ft table.

Aww, don't sweat it...not that much different.

Just wait till you play center of the table shape on an easy out and then realize you can't reach the other half of the table from either end rail. Makes you feel real smart.:banghead:

So this is how the field is shaping up so far:
Shane, Darren, Alex, Johnny, Dennis O., Brandon, Joey Gray, Chip Compton, Keith Bennett and Jesse Engel. Six more spots to fill!
Landon will not be playing this year. He won't be able to make it to Louisville. Very disappointing to me. I really like him and the way he plays.
