In a short race to 5 that kind of luck or good fortune turns the match around in Europe's favor. Play a good safety and they make the ball and get out! What are you gonna do?

If you're Johan you gotta believe CJ is sending out Johnny and SVB 1 - 2 or vice versa.

Who does he put out 1 - 2?

Does he save Daz for last, just in case?

Let's guess... I have Melling/Neils 1 -2 or vice versa. Followed by

3) Daz
4) Nikos
5) Van Den Berg

Unfortunately, we do not choose the players, Matchroom does. I wish it was like the Ryder Cup where we could have Captains picks

It's not as easy as what some think about lineups. If I remember right they alternate picks amongst the captains.

If I am Team Europe I'd throw out Nickos right away no matter who he has to play. He's beat SVB already which means he is very capable of winning vs anyone. By doing that against what likely will be a match vs Archer or SVB it becomes infinitely harder for the USA to match up.

After what I've seen all week, I'd probably bat Mellling and Daz 3rd and 4th. If it makes it that far you need guys who thrive on that pressure and those two played really big yesterday in a tough spot, that has to be noted.

I have always thought of NVB and Niels as the more traditional and fundamental players. I'd bat them 2nd and 5th. They're steady, they've both only shot one flyer all week. Cautious steady players that can win without flash.

Team USA just has to fire all their bullets. Probably have to play Archer then SVB for sure to start. I'd play Shuff third and Hatch fourth. Then if it makes it to the 5th match I'd let Dechaine bring it home.

USA Records(W/L) including team victory

Shuff 2-4
Archer 5-0
SVB 3-2
Hatch 2-3
Dechaine 2-3

Archer still is the only person to have won a singles match.

I would lead with Shane.
I'm keeping Johnny as the hammer...he's the guy I want playing on the hill.
If you throw out your best early, I feel you're conceding the win to Europe.
Johnny might not get to play, but why assume you're gonna lose?
 
Although the US is down by a lot, especially from a 3-1 lead at the start, they have been getting some bad rolls, play a good kick off a safe, and scratch (SVB double-kiss into the opposite corner, Shuff made a ball in the side and scratched behind it, others...). Euro players getting rolls, and some of our players missing shots they really would not normally is not helping. I have seen the US hand up some shots that for some reason fall for Euro players, bang off the points a few times and in. Alternate break race to 5, a single bad turn of the ball can mean the set, and has. Maybe they can get some rolls back on the last day. If you don't get a clear shot when it's your break every time in this format even once, the odds are against you to win.

I gotta say between the jacket and that "The game is the teacher" thing CJ is tilting the shit out of me lately.

Every time I see him tag it on a MC related post it reminds me of the rapper in Tropic Thunder slipping BootySweat promos in the movie.

Personally, I'd have paid good money to be in the US team room when CJ gave them, "The Game is the Teacher" pep speech, just so I could watch the expressions on everyone's face.

Having played team events where our best player never got to the table I disagree here. Its gonna be a team win regardless of how they get there so you migt as well do your best to get longer in the match which means trying to close the gap early by firing your hot hands out the gate.

It seems like we have all our guys geared up for longer races. Maybe CJ should have had our guys play in some race to 4 weekly tournaments to get ready for the different strategy.

Shooting hail marys will get you sent home with your tail between your legs in race to 5 matches. I think we need to play tighter and more conservative to have any chance.

In a normal team match where you're starting even, I've always felt you
should play your best player third....he always gets to play.
But the last one to play should be a 'rock'...you know, the guy you would
like to bet on in a big stakes game if it was a fair game.
I feel in this situation, Johnny Archer is the 'rock'.....
...he can dig deep.
 
If USA goes 4-1 today they tie it up and then a sudden death match with players by the captions pick.

One strategy might be to play who ever would be the captions pick in the 5th spot so they are warmed up.

Just a thought so please don't MC jihad me if you disagree..

Johan's job today is easy. He's got five guys in form and if he put the names in a hat and pulled them out to set his Thursday order, he'd do just fine.

CJ's job today is difficult. He's got one guy in form and four guys struggling.

I think that he has to frontload the line up with Archer and Shane, and if he gets to the tiebreaker match, he must choose Archer, the one guy who has managed to deal well with the incredible presure that comes with the Mosconi Cup.
