High Stakes Pool

For those of you who want to see what a Pool Reality TV show might look like, we have a pilot of a show that was made early this year in Los Angeles. Our very own Cleary was the producer and editor and I was the executive producer on the project and did commentary. The show has a movie like quality to it, with the use of multiple cameras and different angles than you see on televised pool shows. Andrew did an excellent job editing over five hours of shooting to make this one hour and forty five minute pilot.

What is High Stakes Pool? It's a Ten Ball ring game for real money! In this episode (remember it's just a pilot), Morro Paez, Rafael Martinez and John Schmidt hook up to play a little $100 a man Ten Ball. I won't tell you who won, that would spoil it. But they did play all day, and the money was paid off after every game. If we can ever sell this show, the stakes will be raised to $500 a man and it will be four handed.

This is a unique piece on pool with a little different slant to it. Hopefully we can expand on it in the future. If you are interested in obtaining a copy, contact me at jayhelfert@yahoo.com.

wow this sounds really cool jay and i hope it takes off for investors and the pool community as a whole. as a suggestion with the four players can you have efren, alex, busta, and shane? those 4 together should draw high ratings especially with alex's personality in past ring games.

Or Earl or Keith. Love Shane's game-but from an interaction standpoint-these two could be fun. but 3 against 1 in any ring game is going to be tough.

Sounds pretty cool.

Good luck to all making it happen.

It's about time

I've been agitating for years to abandon the tournament format in favor of real pool action. Show the barking, the cash, the payoffs, show it all.

Let the players entertain. Think Earl vs. Keith for a mound of cabbage, barking it up and even quaffing a chilled beverage if that's the case. Much better than sitting in the corner sulking while your opponent figures out how to play another safe.

Old rules, please. Shoot-out 9-ball. Let the players be players, not puppets,

It was supposed to be five handed, but Scott Frost and Ronnie Wiseman were unable to make it at the last minute. I wanted the true gamblers on this show, and guys who would talk it up while they were playing.

Efren isn't a talker, neither is Busta.

Thanks to all who ordered a copy of this DVD. I won't be shipping until after Christmas. The post offices are still too crazy.

Andrew changed the name of the movie/documentary to "The Pool Hustlers". That is the new working title. Cool by me. That is the name that will appear on your DVD, so don't panic if you see that and not High Stakes Pool. It's the same movie.

Jay and myself put a lot into this, it was a lot of fun and we got to see some great pool. We went with a cinematic look and its very different than any other pool production I've ever seen. I hope you like.

Playing for $100, that has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I see that every day at lunch.

That wont sell. Its too low rent. Think small, be small.

Can you try and think big here, like Poker? Have some vision?

Lie about it like poker does, show them playing for 100 grand a match, who will know, and pay them all an equal salary. Think of it as simply entertainment.

Actually Rory, this was just a pilot. The show we pitched is for them to be playing $500 a man and have it be five handed. That way the winner of each game gets $2,000! Each player would have a backer with $10,000 to start the game.

By the way, where do you go for lunch?

They must have some good ole corn squeezins at the lunch room. Jay send me a pm about the dvd please--Leonard

Hey Jay

Hey bud, my name is Shane I live in PA, and I had a few questions about your pool reality show. I love the idea, its a really good idea I think it could use a bit of an improvement tho. I was just wondering if I could get a copy of the full movie, if so I was wondering how much it was going to cost. I'm part of a production company based out of LA and I love the idea and I would really like to see the entire episode. I also would like to talk to you further. Thanks in advance for your time.

Sent this to your email also, I wasn't sure if it was still a good email. Please get back to me.

I sent Jay a PM, I think he's out of the country right now. I'm glad you liked it. I put this together with Jay and would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
