Jay and myself put a lot into this, it was a lot of fun and we got to see some great pool. We went with a cinematic look and its very different than any other pool production I've ever seen. I hope you like.
Playing for $100, that has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I see that every day at lunch.
That wont sell. Its too low rent. Think small, be small.
Can you try and think big here, like Poker? Have some vision?
Lie about it like poker does, show them playing for 100 grand a match, who will know, and pay them all an equal salary. Think of it as simply entertainment.
Actually Rory, this was just a pilot. The show we pitched is for them to be playing $500 a man and have it be five handed. That way the winner of each game gets $2,000! Each player would have a backer with $10,000 to start the game.
By the way, where do you go for lunch?![]()
Great promo! Sound is spot on.
One of the things I like about it is that the guys look like a couple of old time pool "sharks" playing a young newcomer. They look like what the old guys hanging around pool rooms all day watching the action look like in movies. Hope you can get this on somewhere, I can see Spike or TNT putting this on.
Actually, Rory is 100% correct.
Have them playing for thousands a game, not hundreds, doesn't matter that the numbers are not realistic, it's no different than the continuous pretend multimillion dollar poker hands we see on televised poker.

I agree larger stakes would be better. This was simply a pilot and it's not easy to gather people to play for much more. The money exchanging hands each rack was something we wanted and I think adds a very realistic touch to the show.

Still available???
You'll have to contact Jay. He made the copies and had them for sale.

For those of you who want to see what a Pool Reality TV show might look like, we have a pilot of a show that was made early this year in Los Angeles. Our very own Cleary was the producer and editor and I was the executive producer on the project and did commentary. The show has a movie like quality to it, with the use of multiple cameras and different angles than you see on televised pool shows. Andrew did an excellent job editing over five hours of shooting to make this one hour and forty five minute pilot.
What is High Stakes Pool? It's a Ten Ball ring game for real money! In this episode (remember it's just a pilot), Morro Paez, Rafael Martinez and John Schmidt hook up to play a little $100 a man Ten Ball. I won't tell you who won, that would spoil it. But they did play all day, and the money was paid off after every game. If we can ever sell this show, the stakes will be raised to $500 a man and it will be four handed.
This is a unique piece on pool with a little different slant to it. Hopefully we can expand on it in the future. If you are interested in obtaining a copy, contact me at jayhelfert@yahoo.com.
I do have copies and you can find it on my website, jayhelfert.com
I think it is listed as The Pool Hustlers in the DVD section.
I understand. They can still start out with an actual $10K per man, just use a pretend multiplier for marketing purposes, say 25x the real amount. The "pretend' amount is the amount the audience hears and sees exchanged, but the actual amount is the lesser. Again, just like TV poker and their pretend $M pots.
