TAR 30 Podcast with Shane and Darren. Thursday Jan 17. 9PM EST Any Questions?

Lastly, I know Shane has a pool room back home but having watched both players for several years now with all their success, what are they investing in or preparing for a 'rainy day'?

Shane does not own a pool hall. He use to be a part-owner of Lucky's, but no longer for about 5-7 years.

I would like to know if either would be interested in playing an all-around competition?

Darren is playing bonus ball, and Shane opted not to. I'd like to here why each chose the way they did.

I would like to hear there perspectives on whether or not it is worth it to do all the international tournaments. Do they like the way things are done over seas.

I would love to hear from each of them, where there favorite place to play in the world is. Specific pool hall, basement, whatever.

best,

Justin

to shane: do you like tequila much? if so, who's your favorite maker?

to applesauce: besides playing pool, are you a gardner, an artist, a musician, or all of the above?

to either: have you ever wagered the car you were driving?

Oh I think they are both locks. My point is do they think they have done enough. As for Mika I'm not so sure...but that's another discussion.

Nick

I can answer #3. Both are world champions and winning any world championship is an automatic qualification for the Hall of Fame. So they will both get in but in what year after they are eligible isn't know. I would say that they are both a lock to get in within the first five years of eligibility since pretty much all the old guard has been inducted.

For Shane: If you were the Mosconi Cup European captain in 2012, who would have been your 5 players?

For Darren: If you were the Mosconi Cup US captain in 2012, who would have been your 5 players?

Justin, would love to hear both players talk about each other's games. What they see as each other's stregnths & weaknesses.
Also, is there any sidebets besides the TAR money being posted on the match between the two of them?

Shane: I've read Lee Brett worked on your stroke a bit, and you improved. Could you tell more about what you/he changed about the stroke which helped you?

Darren: I believe your way to the top pros started after you moved to the Philippines and spent about 6 months there. Do you agree that was the turning point? How much did it help? Which part of the game you improved most by spending that time there? (my guess - ability to hold under pressure) Were you only gambling or learning from the players through mutual practice? Did you ask anybody (Efren, Django?) for advice or were just learning by observation?

Both: instead of (or better along with) "how do you aim" - object ball last or cue ball last?

To both players: IMO they are two of the mentally strongest players out there.

What do they focus on during a hil-hill pressure run-out? Technique? Stance? Breathing? Money?

Specifically ask Darren how he dealt with the pressure during his last run-out taking the WC 9-ball title against the come-back kid from China. The pressure must have been gigantic..

Surely SVB have had those situations also.. Those two guys don't seem to choke very often..

"Hi...just called to let you know I don't have time to talk right now. Bye."

LOL...I break his balls with that all the time. There is some truth to it though because the guy never stops working. Seriously.

Now for a sketch from my life:

10 PM on a Sunday night
Phone rings

Me: Hello
Mark: How many seats were around the pro arena in May last year?
Me: Huh?
Mark: The pro arena at the Riv in May. How many seats did we have.
Me: You know its 10 oclock on a Sunday?
Mark: Is it?
Me: Yup.
Mark: How many seats did we have.
Me: I don't know.
Mark: You remember what size the arena was?
Me: Nope.
Mark: Ok. talk to you later.
Me: Okey dokey.

The above is a dramatic re-enactment and any resemblance to real people is simply a coincidence.

What shaft diameter and taper do they like most? What advantages/disadvantages do they see in forward-weighted and butt-heavy cues? Thanks!

I also liked these questions already asked:

Who would they put in for the cheese?

Who would they pick for the Mosconi for their team and ALSO, what players do they feel would make the strongest opposing team?

Any stories about Nasty would be great

Darren explaining his aiming system while Mark leaves the room. Ha just kidding Mark. Thank you so much for all you do for pool! I really mean that. But seriously, don't stay in the room

If they played each other in doubles format who would each person choose as their partner; assuming they could choose anyone on the planet (living person) and can't choose the other guy. Would be interesting to hear who each thinks they could win with.

for Darren

... take us through the hill/hill game with Efren at this years US Open 9 ball champ.

... Possibly Justin and Darren could compare notes on their favorite (or least favorite) memories of "hanging out" at Q-Masters during US Open events?

 sorry... just could not stop myself...
