First let me begin by saying that I hope anyone else who has been in this storm's path will hang in there and remain safe.

I'm safe and will undoubtedly stay that way but holy crap, when will this weather insanity end?

This turned out to be the 2nd biggest snowstorm in CT's history. And of all the states affected, CT had the biggest single total with Milford, CT (next to New Haven) receiving 38 inches. My town got 32".

This, on the heels of Hurrican Sandy, and before that tropical storm Irene plus one other catastrophic snowstorm in-between whose name I don't recall at the moment.

How this is pool related is that I am truly fortunate to have my GC in the basement so I can keep myself from going too batty. ;)

There are 5-6' drifts in my yard and driveway and the roads around here remain impassable. They are trying, though. Plow trucks are getting stuck everywhere and the governor closed the state roads to anything other than emergency and snow removal vehicles.

I have a great story I'd like to share about my good friend, and pool buddy, Joe.

Joe has been out of work for a while and I was happy to hear today that he began a new job last week with a New Haven based construction company. He's a heavy equipment mechanic and operator.

He called me to tell me about it and also to share what's happened over that last two days. He's been stuck there at his job because two other mechanics have not been able to come to work due to their being snowed in.

His new company is involved in some commercial contracts for snow removal around town so they were hopping and Joe ended up having to come rescue a couple of their trucks that got stuck. He was in a CAT 950 payloader, apparently a big one.

When he went out on the rescue missions last night he got commandeered by the New Haven Police & Fired Depts to get a few vehicles that were stuck, including 3 fire engines, back into service via heavy chains. He also had to push some abandoned private cars out of the way since they were blocking roadways.

Well, anywho, yet another fireman came jogging up to his payloader and said they needed his help urgently - A 4th fire engine was stuck. Joe drove over with him to where they were and learned of their passenger who was a woman in labor along with her husband. They all quickly got transferred into the payloader for a ride to the hospital where presumably, all is well. I guess this family will have quite a story to tell.

And, I think Joe's new employer is going to proud of him.

I wish he wasn't 20 miles away, I'd love that payloader to magically appear in my driveway. Maybe my guys will be able to make it up here tomorrow.

But until then, I've got some balls to hit.

Be safe everyone . . .

best,
brian kc

Let it snow^3

Well, at least you still have power? I see the lights are on,... or are you on generator?

I am just glad that it missed me for a change. :p

Seriously, we got @ 9 in here not so bad, except as soon as Gov. Cuomo declares a state of emergency they stopped plowing the roads and waited the storm out .
Be well, and enjoy the table time .

I had drifts over two feet in my driveway. Took two different sessions with my snow blower to get it cleared, and a couple of my neighbors, too...

We've had power right along, but our cable went out this morning, so no TV all day. Or internet for the PC and game consoles, so my son is a little put out.... My cell service has been good all day, so I can keep up here with my phone.

We've been pretty fortunate. I hope everyone else is safe. Quite a storm.

Every cloud has a silver lining, KC......
...you're hitting balls AND acquiring some 'drift' sense.
I'm getting in dead stroke with a snow shovel myself.

Good story about your buddy Joe.

Brian, open the French doors, stick the beer cans in.
Instant Canadian beer cooler. See, every dark cloud has a Silver Bullet.

We got lucky in my area, just 6 to 8 inches...that's nothing but a minor pain in the azz to us North Jersey folks. Everything's working, stores are open, parking is an even bigger pain than it usually is. But in a few days the snow will be gone with the warmer temps.

we had about 2 feet or so here in western MA. it was a little hard to tell due to drifting. i live in a condo. all you could see of the cars was snow mounds. i watched yesterday morning while a firetruck got stuck on the property (reponding to a carbon monoxide call due to a snow buried vent pipe) and then the bucket loadwr they sent to "rescue" the fire truck got stuck as well. finally after about 3 hours they were able to dig their way out. ironically about 15 minutes later our plow guys got here. i too spent much of the day in the basement hitting balls (and by that i mean shooting pool just to be clear).

Snow

Brian, I spent the storm at my Gold Crown too. It was nice to take a few shots and look out the window at the show falling.

I feel for you Chicken. The weather this year has been so unpredicable. Just a few days ago the temperature was 78 and then the winter storm came in. The temperature will be in the mid 60's for the next few days. Maybe I'll try to stay indoors too - don't want to catch cold.

Do take care of yourself there, Pete. those temperature swings can be brutal, especially if you aren't wearing socks.

Hard to say how much we got here because of the drifting. Just west of here in Gorham, Maine they recorded 35" and in Portland 32". Finally got all cleaned up.

The worst part of the storm was not being able to get onto AZB due to the cable and internet being out. What a bummer.

Hi Brian! Lisa and I had a roaring fire going throughout the storm, and ultimately received 18 inches here in Putnam County (NY) -- although with the severe wind, we got drifts as high as 6 feet in some places. Spent much of the day yesterday shoveling out, and then went over to a senior citizen friend's place to help shovel her property out.

I feel for those folks that got 30 inches or more, and had their utilities / Internet service knocked out. Been there, done that with hurricane Sandy, as you know, and it really sucks -- especially if the outage isn't fixed for a while.

Little side gripe: While this storm was a decent one compared to years past, I have to say, though, that this "new" fad of naming snow storms now is really lame. And especially such a childish name like "Nemo"?!? Really?!? In a decade's time, NOONE will remember this storm by the silly name of "Nemo." But, if like in storms past, you instead say, "the blizzard of 1978" (or "snow storm of 2013") people will remember that, so this idea of "naming" storms is a FAIL from the get-go.

The only thing "Nemo" reminds me of, is that "Nemo" spelled backwards is "Omen," and that it really is -- an omen for the continuing Dumbing Down of America(TM). ::sigh::

There were many, many photo's of that going around facebook yesterday.

Along with the photo of the chocolate lab running through his yard, just his head showing above the snow, with the phrase "gotta poop, gotta poop, where the hell am I gonna poop?"

And more than a few photos of huge snowbanks with Nemo (from the kids movie) peeking out, saying "found him!"
